1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Last Minute Wedding Gift on: May 06, 2013 08:40:24 AM
I needed a last minute wedding gift. I had seen a cool tutorial for reverse stenciling on Pinterest, and thought I'd give it a whirl. Here's the result:

I used an old print in a frame and spray paint. I did a tutorial on my blog, if interested.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / The 6th Doctor in rectangular form on: May 01, 2013 02:06:58 PM
I recently participated in the Doctor Who rd. 8 swap. My partner said she liked the 6th doctor best. He has a wild suit. (Pic here) I thought it would be fun to try and recreate the suit in art form. I took a rectangular canvas and glued various fabrics around it to make it look like the suit.

Here it is:

I used some of the left over ribbon from his tie to make a hanger.

the Back:

Here's a side so you can see the fabric under the lapels:

all the fabric was from the thrift store. I used a little boy's button down for the collar of the shirt. Both of the plaids were napkins. The gold lapel of the jacket was a tie, and the peach side was another napkin. I had a lot of fun figuring out how to make this happen. The only thing I think I'm missing is a cat pin on the lapel. What do you think?
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Meeshka Mooska Maddy's Birthday (pic heavy) on: April 11, 2013 01:16:08 PM
My DD turned three recently and we had a Minnie Mouse themed birthday for her. I had so much fun making stuff, I thought I would share.

Invite:

Dress I made for her:

Hair clips:

(of course I couldn't get a pic of her in the outfit! ) Wink

Front door wreath:

Sign over the table:

Party favor bags:

Banner out of paper plates:

I had fun color color coordinating the plates and such:

And finally, the cake! (I didn't make it, my MIL did, but it turned out so fab, I had to share!)
4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Steampunk Barometer on: March 01, 2013 11:49:34 AM
Another project from the Steampunk Home swap. I had a three-sided weather deal with barometer, humidity and temp gauges on it. Forgot to take a before pic, but it was just plain ugly brown colored.

I painted the wood base gold, antiqued it and added the steampunk bits to the bottom:

It almost didn't get sent. I kinda wanted to keep it.
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Steampunk Candle Holder on: March 01, 2013 11:35:02 AM
I had this taper candle holder/lantern thing sitting around forever. Decided it was perfect for my partner for the Steampunk for the home swap.

Before:

Steampunkified:

I painted the wood with hammered copper spray paint, added a string to the dowel that pulleys up the candle and an old lantern part to wind the string around:

I wanted to attach the string to a pulley system, but couldn't figure out how to do it without making the piece even taller than it was. All in all, I think it turned out pretty good.
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Men's tie into a pretty flower on: February 08, 2013 01:21:49 PM
I have been hoarding saving this men's tie from a thrift store for awhile. I saw somewhere on-line that someone made flowers out of them and decided to give it a go.

The flower is about 7 inches across at its widest point. I can't decide if I'm putting a pin back on it or making it into a hair fascinator. What do you guys think?
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Family Wall Hanging on: December 13, 2012 09:16:23 AM
Used an old frame, some burlap, and recycled leather from an old coat to make this:

It turned out fairly good, but next time I'll make the letter a bit bigger. Cutting so small on the leather was kinda hard, especially the small bits inside the letters.
8  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Window Chalkboard Message Center on: December 13, 2012 09:14:31 AM
My aunt gave me this frame in the shape of a window awhile back. It was really dark wood and originally held a mirror, but the mirror broke. I repainted it and used chalkboard paint on the backer board to create this:

I'm thinking this will go in my craft area once I get it all done (which at this rate will probably be never!) Wink
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Reindeer Frame Hanging on: December 12, 2012 09:47:56 AM
I made this for a craft show recently. I'm sad he didn't sell, but now I get to use him to decorate my house!  Grin

What do you think?
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Red and Green Rag Garland on: December 12, 2012 08:31:44 AM
Been meaning to make a rag garland for awhile now. Finally decided to make a red and green one for Christmas.

closeup of some of the fabrics:

It turned out to be a great way to de-stash some of my fabric. I didn't buy a single new one for this project. Amazing! Wink I have a bunch of leftover pieces already cut. I might have to make another one.
