Hei Bohemia!
Welcome to Oslo! You can get mod podge at the craft shop in pilestredet by the tram-stop "Dalsbergstien". It's called Globus Hobby. It's crammed full of stuff and pretty messy, but it has a lot of good stuff! Plus, I like to support independent shops when I can, instead of the big chains (like Panduro, the one with a branch on Karl Johan). Not that Panduro is BAD, not at all (I love it there, too), it's just nice to encourage the smaller businesses. As for yarn, there's a shop inside the Oslo City mall called "Strikkedilla", which I find has an ok selection and friendly staff. "Tjorven" on Majorstua has good stuff too, but I've found the staff there to be of variable friendlyness. Anyone else have the same experience?
For fabric, a lot of people speak highly of "Stoff & Stil", which is located in Drammen, but also has an online store: www.stoffogstil.no
IKEA and hlens are also good if you need relatively cheap fabric!
Hope that helped a bit... and that you're enjoying yourself so far! What will you be doing while living here? Work or study?

hei ane!

3  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: lost in translation scarf on: November 03, 2005 01:21:23 PM
Hey! I'm so glad this thread got woken up again!
I kind of lost motivation on the lost in translation scarf when the thread died, and I ended up switching to other projects... I'd be happy to post the pattern I made up, and/or to start a knit along for the scarf!!! Or maybe someone could post the pattern from mother of purl, and we could all knit along to that? That might be stealing though, but I live in Norway, so it's not that easy for me to get the book, I can't get it at the library here...

fadeawaydream:
I'm so relieved you liked it! Let me tell you, I had a stressful few days getting it all ready, having to change plans quickly because my sewing machine was throwing tantrums (I think I've fixed it now).
I'm amazed you got the package so quickly, yay for the norway-to-america mailman... Cheesy

PS: the cups you gave me are coming with me to picnics and such regularly!
And the rest of the stuff is excellent too...

Ok, so I'm a bit behind on everything regarding this swap, but I had to post to say that a couple days ago I picked up a WONDERFUL packet from fadeawaydream!!!

I don't have my digi here at the moment (we're painting the appartment, and everything is pretty much a mess), so I hope fadeaway took some photos...

Here's what she sent me:

* two dust-pink (not too good with colors in english... this might not be right) guest towels, with swirly-ish embroideries as decoration.
I must say, this girl knows how to work a needle!

* two pillowcovers in very cute old-fashioned flowered flannell... I haven't tried them yet, but next time I'm changing the bedlinens they're coming on for sure!

* four cups, beige with a green decorative stripe. these have already been used twice, once for red wine (midnight party in the park), and once for orange juice yesterday, when I had picnic with friends in said park. they're great, cause they're heavy enough to stand steadily on grass, but they're not breakable!

*last, but not least: a photo-frame felt wall hanging. this thing is SO well made! I'm impressed with your sewing skills fadeaway! this will be perfect on the wall in my craftroom... and it's beautiful!

Thank you sooo much!!!

And your packet is in the mail.. it should reach you in a week or two, I guess.

Melladh: I've got your package ready, and will send it as soon as I get stamps! Which will be today or at the latest tomorrow...
So you should have the package at the end of this week or early next week Smiley

I got my wonderful, wonderful packet from Melladh yesterday!!! Thankyouthankyouthankyou/ tack s hemskt mycket!
Here's a list of the contents:
*goldfish soap (LOVE IT!!! it smells so good, and the idea is hilarious)
*book-purse (made from the sleeves of a book), with mod-podged pictures from "The day I swapped my dad for two goldfish", and with pink ribbons for handles... this girl thinks of everything!
* a teeny tiny notebook, homemeade, also with pictures from "The day I swapped my dad..."
*an Ankh pendant made from clay (?) on a necklace
*a stone-with- hole- in- the- middle pendant (love that part of Coraline!), also on a necklace
*a box for keeping stuff in (HOW did you make that beautiful outside? how?), with Death's eye painted on top
*a really really cute tote bag, lavender blue (as in Coraline's blue dressing gown), with a see-through pocket with marbles(exactly as described in Coraline) in it on the front!

I LOVE it all, but if I have to pick a favorite...it's a tie between the tiny notebook and the totebag... with all the other stuff on a close second place!!!

Melladh, if you have pics of it all, could you post them? If not, I'll take and post pics this weekend...

oh, and all the items had little labels attached, explaining what they were, and what connection they had to Neil Gaiman's work, which was a great idea.

Melladh: I'll be sending your packet before the weekend, but I'm having major doubts now... I can't possibly top this! But all my stuff is done already, so there's no turning back.. Hope you like it!

Looks like I'll be moving to Copenhagen in september (YAY)! So I was wondering if there's any crafty danes around, to give me hints on where to buy supplies? I'll probably be living in the Amager- area, but anywhere in the city is fine...
I'm also concidering joining the copenhagen stitch n' bitch, does any of you know anything about it? (number of members, age of members etc).
