1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Feather Hair/Hat Clips on: February 04, 2009 10:54:33 AM
I was in Urban Outfitters the other day and they had all these feather hair/hat clips.  They were charging like $25 bucks! I thought to myself "I could make those!" .....So I did!

I bought alligator clips from the craft store and feathers from the dollar store.  They are backed with some thick canvas remnants that I scavenged from the futon store down the road and some sweet vintage buttons I picked up from the Salvation Army (BAGS of buttons there! Sweet deals!)  And LOADS of hot glue lol.  It maybe cost me $15 for supplies and I've made a ton of these!

2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Twig Hat on: February 04, 2009 10:31:58 AM
I am hat crazy right now!

This is a re-working of a vintage knitting pattern from a "Hats & Accesories by Beehive" pattern book I got off Ebay. the pattern book is undated so I'm not sure how dated it is but it's definately pre-60's  The original pattern was called "Peppermint Topping" and had this nasty stockinette stich piping on it.

I reworked the pattern to get rid of the piping added on i-cord ties, some back-stitched vines and leaves reworked from on old flower pattern. I knit the leaves seperately and sewed them on.  The bottom of the i-cords have 2 of the leaves sewn together so that they're the same on either side.

I'm so happy with this!

3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Yo-yo hair pins! on: February 02, 2009 08:39:09 AM
My first Craftster post!

I made yo-yo hair pins, with vintage buttons hot glued on them!  Super cute!
The largest one is a strip of fabric (old bed sheet!) about 15" long and and 1 1/2" long that I ran a running stitch along the bottom of and hot glued a vintage bone button on it. I left the edges unfinished.
I used varying sizes of fabric circles to make the yo-yo's.
