1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / tips on baking bog standard buns? on: August 02, 2008 09:14:32 AM
I don't post on this forum very often despite browzing through atleast once a day so I know how clever and talented you all are (extremely so in comparison to me, especially in the baking department! Cheesy).

I'm rubbish when it comes to baking but for my friend's birthday I want to maker her monster cupcakes using coloured royal icing on rainbow buns (cupcakes in American?).
My buns never raise, they either stay flat or flop over the top of the cases. Also, they never cook in the middle?! they look cooked on the outside but stay gooey on the inside no matter how long they're in the oven for, they even do all of the above with a cake mix lol.
As a fall back I'm hoping to buy some plain buns and decorate them but I want to make rainbow cupcakes, simply because they're amazing lol.
My basic recipe is 100g of s.r. flour, marg and sugar with 2 eggs.

I don't have an electric hand whisk so it's basic manual labour lol but any tips or better recipes (basic and cheap lol) would be much appreciated. I think for the royal icing I'm going to chicken out and buy some ready made stuff, just add the colour at home. Any tips on icing would be great too.

3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Paper wall decoration on: March 03, 2008 11:49:21 AM
I want to do this:
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00120007

I'll draw it out and cut it using a knife (heh good luck to me) I'll use ink to paint it in so it doesn't go hard?
I can't figure out how to stick it to the wall so it still looks flat (i.e. almost painted on flat), the trouble is it will need to be easy to get off again because it will be in my dorm room to be. How can I stick it to the wall?
and any tips on cutting out using a knife will be appreciated lol, I'm thinking of getting a rotary knife too.

Any tips welcome Smiley I think it would be a nice way to perk up the stark university walls.

4  COOKING / Dessert / V. easy microwavable cake even I can cook! on: February 20, 2008 04:23:12 AM
and I'm rediculous at cooking! as in, my cakes never rise, nothing cooks in the middle and I even mess up cake mixes Grin
But this one rose and was luuuuurvly, I didn't use raspberries and I reccomend doing more than just one layer of golden syrup because the cake it spongy but dry.

Microwave Raspberry Sponge

1 teaspoon sunflower oil
1 tablespoon golden syrup
125g fresh raspberries
125g caster sugar
125g soft margarine
2 medium size eggs, beaten
125g self raising flour, sieved
1 tablespoon warm water

Grease a 600ml basin with the oil. (use a bigger bowl because it rises and overflows onto your nice clean microwavable plate Roll Eyes

Pour the syrup into the base of the bowl.

Lay the raspberries on top.

Cream the sugar and margarine until light and fluffy.

Add the beaten eggs slowly beating each time to incorporate.

Gradually fold the flour into the mixture, adding warm water to make a dropping consistency.

Transfer the mixture into the bowl on top of the raspberries.

Cover with a piece of cling film and cook in the microwave for 5 minutes then leave to stand for 2 minutes before serving

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Some lovey dovey stuff I've made in the past (img chunky) on: February 19, 2008 02:35:37 PM
This is a reasons why I love you book Smiley (as you can see Wink)

There are pictures in:

(for some of them I wrote little letters about what and why I love these things, to pad it out abit lol)

I also did a box full of pictures relating to songs he could try and guess, and some random jokes in there too :p

2 random cards Smiley

A jar of love, some felt strawberries and cherries and a box that has 'things to do', e.g. buy that bar of chocolate you fancy so much and put on some music and relax

A book about him, I managed to come up with loooooads of stuff for that!

A book of randomness (old joke about organised randomness lol) which I did when I should have been revising for my GCSEs....this was 2 years ago Shocked...anyway Smiley it's just full of random crap Smiley...it was raining and my bag got wet so it smudged...making the randomness look like condomness Shocked

The old favourite: a scrapbook type thing.
Well basically a big book of randomness lol, although this had more sentimental things than the other booklet Smiley. I used two A2 sketch books so I had to bend open the loops and put in the extra pages. It took me months to do but it was fun Smiley. There are diary entries, poems, stories, pictures, little quotey lovey things and  whatever else I felt like putting in.

And some random pictures I've done for him
Album covers incorporated into eachother:

The Many Faces of my Jonnyphon, drawn from photos of him:

And a canvas painting of a girl in a nightclub:

For me last St Val's day he wrote onto hearts what he loved about me, cut them out and stuck them to his wall with some pictures of us stuck up randomly. I loved it Cheesy (that's just a small section, they were all around the room Smiley)

Feel free to nab anything Smiley I spend ages looking through these boards for ideas.

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Not ultra crafty but full of imagination ;) on: February 13, 2008 11:57:46 AM
I've been hanging around these boards for yonks! but for some reason I hardly ever post anything Huh so, I shall post more!

Anyway, my prezzie to my amazing bf.

This is just a box of...crap for my bf Cheesy it's so naff it's unbelievable but we both know that anything naff I steer away from so this is a big deal for me lol. Each item has a caption with it.

This is the box lid, I just drew some random cartoons that tickled my fancy. The miiiilk one with the cow, pirate and biker bloke is an advert off of tv which always makes him giggle (yes, my boy giggles lol).

inside the box is:

a monkey (bears are overrated Wink) with some Hershey's Kissables (yay for shops with overpriced American products!). The box has pairs (e.g. eggs 'n' bacon, lemons and limes) written on and the caption says: hugs and kisses

the only st val's product I bought, made me laugh lol. The caption says: I'm drawn to you

A mini rubber duck with lovehearts on it!!! wo0o0o0o0owzee, and yes, the caption says: I'm quackers for you

Wind up dinosaur, the caption says: sorry if I wind you up sometimes (heh heh, geddit)

He's a gamer boy, the caption says: our relationship is more than just a fun game

caption: you're an eggcellent boyfriend

He's always tickeling me lol, caption: you're my Mr Tickle

Biscuits, they look...boring because there is no icing sugar in the house. They have chocolate in the middle and are yummy! captions 1:'You're a star'. 2:'You're the only person for me'. 3:'I heart you' and 4:'You know I can't bake but I did it anyway'

the card, he doesn't like pink valentines store bought cards

In there there is also an mp3 player with our music on, some heart chocolates and a bouncy ball (heyy, they're fun! Cheesy)

The end product, I went mad with the little sequin hearts lol, they're everywhere even in the card and easter egg! Roll Eyes hearts are fuuun Tongue
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / What can I use as a kiss? on: January 28, 2008 01:02:51 PM
I'm making a box for my bf, so far I have a monkey teddy for hugs, balloons with heart sequins in and little messages, i'm going to draw all over the box and add extra things, but, I want something to represent a kiss, any ideas?
We don't have Hershey's over here so I can't use those.

Thank you Smiley

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / I spent yonks on: December 12, 2006 11:40:34 AM
copying and pasting "I love you" in tonnes of different languages, then changing the font and printing them off, then drawing heart designs on them then cutting them out and I don't know what to do with them!.
They're tiny so if you could give me an idea as to what the hell to do with them it'd be appreicated, I can't just bung them in a box and give them to him, that's fairly dull compared to what I usually do.

10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Entertainment pack on: November 20, 2006 10:02:46 AM
Me and my demon child are in a long distance relationship which means there's a 2 hour train ride between my nearest main train station (where I meet him when he comes here) and the city he's from.
So I was thinking for christmas I could put a little pack together to keep him entertained on the train. This means that it can't be all gooey and lovey as he'll be in a very public place (probably trapped on a table with grumpy people grunting and someone smelling of cigaretts, well I get that at any rate) and has to be small enough for him to carry.
I was thinking of drawing some little pictures with hidden messages in he has to find.
What else could I do?
Smiley
Thank you
