1  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Royal Icing Modified Recipe? on: August 13, 2008 08:45:36 AM
I'm not quite sure  but maybe, I had to used bottled lemon juice in mine and it didn't harden like it was supposed to, so it is likely it would affect the consistency.
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: What's your weird guilty pleasure? on: August 07, 2008 11:57:17 AM
I don't eat meat anymore, but I don't like mayo so I always put butter on my sandwiches and got weird looks for it lol. I also put chips in my sandwiches. My mom taught me about icing on graham crackers. Fries in a chocolate milkshake...oh and I eat uncooked pasta, I don't know if anyone else does that. My boyfriend can't stand the crunchy noise lol. I'll also eat an avocado all by it's self, with a grapefruit spoon, yum. I've also been known to make a little powdered sugar icing and eat it with a spoon.

you get weird looks for putting butter on your sandwiches?
that's what it's for! lol Huh
is this a culture clash?
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / tips on baking bog standard buns? on: August 02, 2008 09:14:32 AM
I don't post on this forum very often despite browzing through atleast once a day so I know how clever and talented you all are (extremely so in comparison to me, especially in the baking department! Cheesy).

I'm rubbish when it comes to baking but for my friend's birthday I want to maker her monster cupcakes using coloured royal icing on rainbow buns (cupcakes in American?).
My buns never raise, they either stay flat or flop over the top of the cases. Also, they never cook in the middle?! they look cooked on the outside but stay gooey on the inside no matter how long they're in the oven for, they even do all of the above with a cake mix lol.
As a fall back I'm hoping to buy some plain buns and decorate them but I want to make rainbow cupcakes, simply because they're amazing lol.
My basic recipe is 100g of s.r. flour, marg and sugar with 2 eggs.

I don't have an electric hand whisk so it's basic manual labour lol but any tips or better recipes (basic and cheap lol) would be much appreciated. I think for the royal icing I'm going to chicken out and buy some ready made stuff, just add the colour at home. Any tips on icing would be great too.

4  COOKING / Dessert / Re: fondant vs. gum paste on: July 17, 2008 02:33:22 PM
I'm guessing gum paste is best for outlines and texture whereas fondant shapes are more of a flat colour that can be moulded into either flat or 3d shapes, you won't fet much 3d from gum paste (that's icing sugar in a tube right? lol).

7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Potatoes coming out my ears!! on: June 15, 2008 02:17:35 AM
Loaded potato skins, mozzorella and ham would be nice
I saw on a programme yesterday that someone scooped out the middle of potato halves making a bowl thing and filled it with leeks and cheese, I think he par cooked them before filling them then finished them off in the oven
