1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Cosplay Jacket Help! on: June 01, 2010 01:25:55 PM
Hello. It has been a while since I have been on this board. Maybe because I haven't sewn anything in a long time. But I've come to a dilemma. I need a jacket for June 11... which is not close, but not too far away. I have searched thrift stores and most don't have this jacket anymore..lame. Mainly because it's summer time. Smiley

It's from an anime blah blah, not too important. I was considering "twill" for the fabric, probably won't line it because it will be extremely hot and I don't want to kill myself.

Sorry for the horrible quality. It's really a "forest green" military style jacket adorned with some chains and little..flag thing. I've checked for it. Can't find.

I don't know a thing about making jackets so any kind of help would be nice. I have a hard time reading patterns as well.. Thanks. (And if you've seen a similar jacket somewhere, a gentle push in the right direction would be nice too!)
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Need help with this jacket please :) on: October 08, 2009 10:22:54 PM
Hello.

I was going to get this jacket commissioned (and still might if some lucky craftster wants to *wink wink*) but I want to try my own hand at making it. I don't know where to start though. A varsity jacket is usually made of what, pleather? But I think I should stick with cotton/poly mix or jersey? Something comfortable?

I wouldn't know how to go about doing the bottom part or the collar, and I can't read a pattern to save my life Sad

Any help would be great... especially with the color and two-tone/striped bottom band (would I use elastic or something??) And especially good fabric choices? And maybe a tutorial? haha

Thanks <3
3  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Cloak/Robe Tutorial/Pattern/Help? on: October 16, 2008 04:19:01 PM
So, there's a con I'd like to go to in about...less then a month. I'm pushing for time here, which was pretty silly of me, I'll admit. This costume I'm trying to make isn't necessarily...hard,(sewing wise?) but I really wouldn't know how to essemble it, I guess. I'm such a n00b.

If you've played twilight princess, you might know who I'm talking about. Her name is Midna. Here's an image of her. http://th01.deviantart.com/fs13/300W/f/2007/043/c/f/Midna___SPOILER_FOR_ZELDA_TP_by_LuisaRafidi.jpg

Any help on cloak/robes patterns? And possibly how about the skirt? It looks like, basically...two rectangles XD Maybe some fabric choices as well? I'd say cotton/polyester..it's not shiny, but it's not dull either.

Any help is appreciated <3
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Prom Dress Questions! Urgent [prom is may 31]&pic fat! on: May 23, 2008 06:07:59 AM
Okay, I've stalled on this for tooo long ): I didn't think I was going to go to prom, but then it turns out I HAVE to, and I don't have a dress, nor 3409309393 dollars to buy one, so of course, this calls for Sewing!Girl (: Our favourite superhero evaar.

Anyway.

I found the dress I'd kind of envisioned in my head, and I THINK I should use duchess satin (fabric.com) but if anyone has a better idea(I've never made a prom dress before) I'm all ears.

I definitely need some help/pattern assistance on making a dress like this.

The theme is "masquerade", but I wanted to go for a "vintage, retro" look instead. I just don't have a clue as to how to go about making the dress, mainly because I'm a nooblet, but yeah.

Any help would be appreciated! (:

So would color help... I wanted black, but I don't want to see gothy or anything Sad   My skin tone is the same(just about) as the girl's in the picture, if you need to know that info for comparison. (:
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Serging? on: December 30, 2007 06:42:11 AM
What exactly IS serging? And is it necessary? A lot of the tutes here mention NOTHING about it, and just recently I keep seeing "SERGED" everywhere... so I'm a bit confused. Any help would be neat-o. Thanks.
6  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Not a [lurker] anymore! on: December 30, 2007 06:40:25 AM
Helloo. I've always loved sewing. And now that I have a machine, I don't need to hand sew anymore! I've been doing it for like, 6 years, on and off. All of it was handsewing, so my machine-work is a bit...lacking in the good department. I want to be a fashion designer when I get older, and I'm trying to get into Pratt Institute or Parson's School of New Design for fashion design. It's really the only thing I know how to do, unfortunately. That and breathe. And eat. and sleep. and, you know.

Anyway, I hope I enjoy it here[ i have since I found the website, anyway!] good luck crafting guys ;]

7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / So excited! I'm getting a sewing machine finally!!! on: December 13, 2007 05:23:48 PM
 Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin!!!

I AM SO EXCITED. I am finally going to be a TRUE craftster <3 I am getting a brother XL3500. I know some people don't like this brand, but I wonder, does anyone have this?

I'm so very excited to finally start sewing--this will be my first time using a machine, so I'm probably going to be posting a lot of questions in the next few days, haha.

Does anyone have any tips for me before I start? Thanks.
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Stupid Tote Bag Question. on: October 20, 2007 06:21:23 PM
Okay, so I'm sort of new at this sewing thing..and I noticed the tut's don't tell you WHAT kind of fabric they use to make tote bags(or any bags for that matter...)

So I ask, what fabrics would I be using in a tote bag? Would the "lining" be a thick kind of fabric? I think someone said something like "canvas"? Or could I just use thicker cotton as the "lining"? And, places I could find this "thick lining fabric"?

Thanks in advance! <3
