51  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Due to complete lack of boy clothes... on: October 07, 2007 06:37:34 AM
Exceptionally happy looking baby! Reminds me of mine when they were that small...

I'm with you: I don't like doing buttons/buttonholes either. In desperation, I redesigned a baby shirt pattern I had so that it opened at the shoulders instead, completely bypassing the whole button aspect. I closed it along the shoulder area with some of those sturdy snaps you hammer on. The seams went together so well, the snaps were really unobtrusive, so you couldn't tell the shirt opened up there. It was a very neat look, and I made what seemed like hundreds to bolster my baby romper and t-shirt collection...I've just gotten involved with Craftster, so I haven't rigged up any tutorials yet, but I intend to.

In the meantime, you might want to try it yourself, or do a buttondown pattern, replacing the buttons with soft velcro circles...play with it. Babies are live-action dolls to dress up. It's fun!

What is it about 4 year olds wanting Ariel cakes? I just recovered from the stress of making one for my baby girl's Sept b-day party. A little diff. than yours: white cake tinged blue with food coloring, white and shades of blue frosting for frothy waves, fruit roll ups cut into seaweed shapes on the sides and layered over the mermaid. Hand painted Ariel (which took some patience) swimming on the top.

WISHING LIKE CRAZY I had thought of the green licorice instead! Cutting fruit roll ups is a royal pain in the tush. (I hate the smell, and it was ALL over my fingers--seemed like I couldn't get it to go away, no matter how hard I scrubbed.)

Anyway, great cake, and your waves looked better than mine. I'm jealous. Waah!
