21  Re: Discussion Thread for Nerd Battles in Craftalongs by gozer on: August 16, 2016 06:37:44 AM
Last night I took some pics of my future indoor storage room. It really is the key to my entire house looking better. I can store my winter/summer clothes in there and unclutter my bedroom, I can store my Christmas & Halloween decor and not have to walk out into the garage or try to drop things from the attic without landing on a cat (in theory, both tubs are sitting in my bedroom). So much easier and convenient. Maybe some overflow from the craft room too.  Roll Eyes  It all starts here.
It's a small room. I'll measure once it's emptied out but it really is tiny. The previous owners used it as a gun room/office. I think that they were trying to make it manly so they kept the dark wood trim. All the rest of the trim in my house is white so this room annoys me to no end. Is it sad that when I was taking pictures I thought to myself, "Hey, this isn't so bad. I can see the floor in some places"...?

The pic with the table is the truest to the color. It's going to be a bear to cover. And moving all my dolls out of the curio cabinet is going to be a huge pain too!

Project Name: Bright Snap Card Wallets
Project Link: (if available)
Brief Description: I recently sat down and made a whole bunch of these snap card wallets for the STS in the Fall. After I made about 5 I realized all the ones I made were muted or greens so I wanted to add some brights into the mix. I used a bright hot pink fabric with a neon green snap (looks kind of yellow on my screen though). For the second one I used a bright neon turquois with glitter and then used a magenta/hot pink thread. Bright and eye catching like the signs on Rt 66!

Be prepared. I made a bunch of these. I just need to get pictures.  Tongue

Here is a better shot of the mug from SmileyYogini. It's so perfect. I absolutely love it.

I mean, seriously, how cute and funny is that? I can't get enough of it.

I'll be back to comment on all the great swap packages (I have to say this swap outdid itself!) in a little bit. Let me just share with you the fantastically amazing package that SmileyYogini sent to me. She truly went above and beyond. It is so crazy great!
First up, she sent me this super cool Cthulhu tee shirt. I love it. Wearing it today! Along with some awesome purple socks, we both LOVE purple, and this amazing crochet cuff bracelet. I am going to have to get a few more pics because I realized you can't see the very pretty button very well. It's iridescent and beautiful.

We both have a love of unicorns, my favorites are fat unicorns. LOL! She paid tribute with these fantastic unicorn ATC's. They are fantastic!! Look at all the details. One is baking up goodies and the other is shopping at the craft store. She also sent along some blank ATC's for me to play with.

Then these cute and fun little summery dishtowels. We both collect and decorate with dishtowels. These are going up tonight. Actually, I'm getting watermelon tonight so these will set the scene perfectly!

She sent a ton of extras. She got me a cute little red tote for the Bibiomaniac. I am a slow reader but I love to read. I'm going to an authors convention to meet some of my favorites in October and I will bring this to hold some books.  Wink Then she sent some of the cutest cat stickers ever! I am obsessed with my cats and she knows that. In all fairness, if you talk to me for more than 2 minutes you will know I am obsessed with my cats.  Tongue  The pencil is actually an eraser!!! How cool? I can't wait to try that. SmileyYogini said it was great for tiny little areas. I feel some ATC's happening soon! The green little square is a finger light. I tried it out and it is bright green and a bunch of fun. On top of the stickers is a cute little sewing charm for my love of sewing. I love sewing about as much as SmileyY loves her yarn so we both have a craft favorite. Oh! The bottle next to the stickers is book scented perfume! How cool is that?!  Shocked  So unique! The smell of a library in a bottle. Coolest thing ever! But we aren't done. Then she sent me another charm, this time of blue book. I am going to turn this into a necklace charm. I love tiny books!

Next up is this absolutely adorable, snarky, and true hoopla. LOL! Yes, cats will puke on everything you love. The stitches are so perfect! I could never do a cross stitch I would go insane! This is awesome!!! It's going on my whimsy wall in the kitchen. It makes me smile!

I am going to get a close up pic of the mug tonight. It's so funny! I cannot wait to use this!!!! As you can see, that's my cats moto because they would NOT get out of the shot. It is so cute. I can't get over it. And to place my new all time favorite mug on, cat butt coasters. Bahahaha! Perfect! They fit right in at my house. LOL! She sent me a set of four. Two gray, two black.

But that's not it! We both like couch pillows and she completely outdid herself on this one! My living room is decorated in whimsy adn Red Riding Hood. All the art is RRH and she knew that. She sent me this AMAZING couch pillow. Look at how cute this is! The wolf's tail sticks out a bit. It's so perfect and SO CUTE!!!! I am in love with it! The basket, every detail is adorable. This is already on my couch with the rest of my fun cushions.

Thank you so much SmileyYogini!!! You outdid yourself on this swap. Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!! I love it all!!!

Research Project Name: Patchwork Skirt

Brief Description:  (how it fits the requirements, patterns/techniques used, materials, plan of action, expected timeline, etc.)
This was made for the Common Grounds swap. My partner loves patchwork bohemian skirts so I decided to try one. She mainly wears b&w so I tried to stick to that. I used some new techniques for this. The first being overlock stitching. I got the foot for it and it turned out pretty neat. Used a ton of thread. I went thru bobbin after bobbin. It has about 90 or so blocks on it. I also used a new bias tape foot for binding on the hem. Without that foot I think I would have been sunk. It made it 1,000Xs easier and looked neat and clean. It says it takes about 5 yards of fabric but I did have some left over. I am guessing about three quarters of yard. I tried it on and loved the way it flowed. It has a tie with elastic in the front to keep it secure and comfortable.

Project Name: Patchwork Half Apron
Project Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=449799.0
Brief Description: This was also made for the Common Grounds swap. Its a cute little half apron. The pattern called for just a plain front pocket fabric but I wanted to give it a little more personality with the patchwork. It has a divided pocket in the front and then one side is divided again for smaller items. The patchwork kind of hides that. It has super extra-long ties so you can wrap it around you and have plenty to tie in a bow in the front.

Brief Description: I am sure along with the Fiji Mermaid and the Worlds Strongest Man there was a Unicorn on display in a roadside attraction. And I bet that unicorn was beautiful. This was for the Common Grounds swap. The unicorn was drawn on paper and inked with Copic markers.

Project Name: Buddha Trinket Bag
Project Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=449800.0
Brief Description: I had just a small amount of this fabric left over from a purse I made. My partner in the Common Ground swap loves Buddhas. It is so hard to find a decent Buddha fabric! Glad I hoarded my scraps on this one! The color of the Buddha robes are dusty and earthy like the desert.

Project Name: Book Buddy
Project Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=449800.0
Brief Description: This little dohickie fits right over the cover of a book to hold your pens, pencils or what-nots. Its perfect for a doodling journal! This was part of my Common Grounds swap. The straight, tall appearance of the book buddy reminds me of sky scrapers, architecture!

and last but not least a new Research Project Proposal!
Research Project Name: Extra Junk Room to Indoor Storage Room
Team: Analog
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, patterns/techniques used, materials, plan of action, expected timeline, etc.)
I have a couple extra rooms in my house since I got divorced that I just didnt know what to do with. Unfortunately they turned into junk rooms and junk rooms of the worst kind. I have got to clean them up and do something with them before I go insane. Everything just gets tossed in there and they are making my entire house feel trashed. Even with the doors closed, I still know whats back there.
I couldnt decide what to do with the smaller room. Its too small to be a regular bedroom and I am making the other room into the spare room (and I didnt need two). Ive already moved the desk into the other room so an office wasnt going to work. I know I would never go in there and use it as an office anyways so it would turn into a junk room again.
My Mom suggested an indoor storage room. I could put my vacuum, broom, cleaning supplies, and all my decorating things for different holidays. No more crawling up in the attic or dragging it in from the garage. Perfect. Added bonus of not having to worry about bugs or spiders getting in my stuff too.
First I need to clean the room out. Which will be a HUGE chore. I have an old, heavy wooden bookshelf and a curio cabinet full of Monster High dolls along with a glass drawing table and not to forget about all the cardboard boxes full of junk or bags laying in the floor with stuff in it.
After that is cleaned out I am going to repaint the wall & baseboards, add curtains, and fix it up for all the storage that will neatly be placed in there. Ive been talking about painting it for almost two years. Its happening. I has to happen.
I'll get before pics to post up this weekend. It's such a mess it will be embarrassing but maybe it's just the kick I need to gt it done.

27  Drawstring Bags and Extras in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by gozer on: July 29, 2016 09:01:21 AM

I whipped up these fun little drawstring bags for the Common Grounds swap. I made a purse out of this fabric a couple years ago and only had a small amount of it left. Luckily it worked perfectly for this bag. My partner can use it as a jewelry bag or a project bag. Included in the swap was a unicorn necklace as well.

I though they were a cute way to package the Book Buddy I made as well.

I put some light interfacing in this one and didn't like it much so I decided I won't be doing that again.  Embarrassed
I plan to make some more out of Christmas fabric to use as wrapping.  Grin

28  Patchwork Apron in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gozer on: July 29, 2016 08:52:28 AM
I hope this is where this goes. You do wear it!
I make this Apron for the Common Grounds swap. My partner and I both like purple and she has a lot of patchwork on her Pinterest, which I love to do.
The pocket is divided in the middle and then one side is divided again to keep everything organized and where you put it.
I'm using one of my partners pics since it was better than mine. Hope she doesn't mind!

The straps are extra long so you can wrap them around you and tie a nice bow in the front. This is my picture of it on the table.  Tongue

 Thanks for checking it out!

29  Patchwork Skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by gozer on: July 29, 2016 08:46:28 AM
Hey there! I love to sew but I never make clothes so it's new for me to be on this board. So many neat things over here!

I made this patchwork skirt for a swap I was in, the Common Grounds Swap. My partner pretty much only wears black and white so I kept to her trend and used only black and white fabrics.
The band has a bit of elastic on it so it makes it more comfortable to wear. It has a nice long ties as well.
I used a new foot to do the hem with Bias tape. So much easier and neater than anything I have ever done before. I love the way it turned out. It was also my first time doing overlock stitches and using that foot. I went thru a lot of bobbins but I think it worked well.

I used my partners pics since they were so much nicer than mine.  Cheesy
I really ended up liking it. I might try to make another with random, bright fabrics.
Thanks so much for checking it out!

I wanted to thank Alwaysinmyroom for sending me that fabric and some fantastic extras! She really is a dear and such a sweetheart. Thank you again Aimr. That really made my day!!!

I guess the official zentangles thingie does make sense. I tried to zentangle once and it was really frustrating. I had no idea you were supposed to roll a dice (which I really want to do now) and I got all persnickety about what to do in the next opening. I can see the dice making it a lot more fun and relaxing.  Smiley
