1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Ideas for turning my son into "loathe"? on: November 23, 2007 10:10:07 AM
My son (10) signed up for a challenge at his school's upcoming word fair. What the kids do is choose a word from the dictionary and then come to school in a costume that represents their word. My son chose the word 'Loathe'. I like his choice, but I'm really at a loss as to how to physically portray loathe  Shocked.

The first place prize is a huge book package, which my son is uber excited about. I'm really wracking my brain here but coming up short.

Any ideas on how to make a loathe costume?  Huh
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / First embroidery *Adult* on: October 28, 2007 09:11:00 AM
I finally decided to give embroidery a try, after a long time of being nervous about it (I'm usually a cross stitcher, where the cloth tells me exactly where to put the needle). Here it is...

I love my little penis!!  Cheesy  I didn't have a pattern, just used a pencil to trace a rough outline, which I wound up deviating from.

I know it's pretty shakey, so any comments/criticisms/tips are welcome!
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / How to "ruin" an expensive purse on: October 25, 2007 05:27:41 PM
So, my husband works at a private university and gets to pillage the dorms for stuff the students leave behind. That usually means a ton of expensive clothes and purses that I get to ruin Smiley

I had these painted buttons I wanted to do something with (thanks again joanieponytail), so I decided to spiffy up this Kenneth Cole purse...

There is nothing glitter and hot glue can't make better.
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Tipsy butterfly and mismatched earrings on: October 25, 2007 01:05:36 PM
I made these last night while being completely bored watching Phenomenon...

These beads came from 3 different broken necklaces, and I don't know what the butterfly used to be. It hangs off center, which was a happy accident.

With these, I didn't have 2 matching larger beads (ok, I was too lazy to look properly), so I just used 2 that were the same color.

I'm actually pretty happy with how they turned out, even if they do look a bit wonky.
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / What do monks and records have in common? (img heavy) on: October 23, 2007 02:40:40 PM
...they're somehow related to things I made in the last few days. Sorry about the crappy action shots, I always feel like such a goober when I try to model things.

These were records that came with a vintage Japanese doll. I turned them into earrings:

These beads are from a Buddhist monk necklace thing (I'm sure they have a real name), but the strand broke and I lost a bunch of the beads, so I made them earrings also:

I love earrings Smiley
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Painted Buttons! on: October 21, 2007 04:10:55 PM
Inspired by this here awesome post by joanieponytail http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=202166.0...

I made these over the weekend:

These were about 8 kinds of fun, and I can't wait to make more for some jewelry.

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Skulls n' glass hoop earrings and sparkle heart necklace on: October 16, 2007 03:07:32 PM
I made the earrings yesterday. The skull beads started life as cheap Halloween stretch bracelets. I was very tempted to make them bigger. Smiley

Action shot

And I made this necklace today. The pendant is actually a zipper pull off a purse. I was originally just going to make this a single strand necklace, but now I'm glad I made it a double.

Wearing it

Overall, I'm pretty happy with them both.
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Cuff from shed findins' on: October 15, 2007 08:02:16 PM
I haven't posted a project here before, so here's something I whipped up over the weekend. I made it out of an old robe belt, some loose buttons, and velcro scraps (all of which my husband found on the shed floor).

Thanks for looking  Smiley
