2  COOKING / Dessert / First ever marshmellow fondant!! on: March 23, 2009 01:25:23 PM
I just found this pic from last July, of my very first ever attempt at marshmellow fondant.  It's a birthday cake for my cousin's 14 year old stepdaughter.

I gotta say the fondant was not nearly as intimidating as I was making it out to be, and it actually tasted good too.  When I try it again I will roll it a little thinner though, this ended up being a healthy quarter of an inch thick.  Roll Eyes

Oh and if anyone is wondering (the pic I have of it after we demolished half of it is terribly blurry) the inside is a double layer of homemade vanilla cake with cheesecake flavored buttercream.  Yum!

Details, details, details...

You will be given five theme ideas from your partner. You will choose one of those ideas, and re-con an Altoid tin according to the theme. (If you are unable to find an actual Altoid tin, you may use a substitute, provided you keep the size to anything smaller than 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm), and not thicker than 1" (3 cm).) The tins can be square, rectangular, or circular. After the tin is decorated, you will fill the tin with tiny objects that also relate to the theme.

For example, if your partner chose "red" as a theme, you would decorate the box to reflect "red". It could just be different shades of red, or perhaps pictures of red items (roses, cherries, or firetrucks, etc.). Then, you decorate the interior of the box and fill it with red things...maybe a pair of red earrings, a red purse charm, some red hots...whatever "red" means to you. The catch is that you can only send the decorated tin and whatever fits into it.  Nothing else! This will be a quick, fun swap and shipping should be fairly cheap, as well.

1.  Post at least once in this thread so we can communicate with you easily.
2.  US participants sending within the USA must get a DC number.  International shippers keep your receipts as proof of shipping.  Failure to do this will be noted in your feedback and if your package does not arrive you will have to resend.  If you have proof of shipping and your package doesn't arrive I will get a swap angel and you will still get positive feedback.
3.  Communicate!  When you have shipped pm the DC number to me and your partner.  If you are going to be late, let me know by the shipping deadline.  If I do not hear from you you will receive NEGATIVE feedback, preventing you from signing up for more swaps until you have cleared it up.   Sending early, late, getting DC#'s, and having good or bad communication will all be noted in your feedback.

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Polymer Clay Cane Swap on: July 02, 2008 12:39:00 PM
While making Pinky Damone's kit for the DIY Swap I kind of got emersed in the whole polymer clay cane making thing....would there be any interest in a cane swap?

The idea being you make one cane of your choice and send to your partner, or two or three canes to two or three people, I guess depending on what people would like to do, we could iron that out later.  And in turn you get some canes made by other lovely craftsters!

For example--> http://www.simplydarling.com/gingham.htm

Any takers?
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Recently divorced/broken up swap? on: May 28, 2008 08:41:52 PM
Ok I don't know if this has been done before, but would there be any interest in a "I recently got divorced/broke up with my SO" type of swap?

I was thinking things like journals/diary's, items inspired by new things you've tried (going to the movies or eating alone), learned to do (make sushi or knit), or places you've traveled to.  Maybe you got a pet and he or she needs some craftster goodness that is all their own,  or maybe you moved to a new apartment and want some amazing magnets for your fridge.  Or maybe a lovely cross stitch to hang on the wall and remind you to..."Speak your mind...even if your voice shakes."  Smiley
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Quilted, Patchwork, Big Ole Bag on: April 25, 2008 11:40:59 AM
So my mom and I were sitting around one evening looking through her stash of fabric, which included some fabrics both of my grandmothers used and I had this idea.  I am a big ole purse kind of girl so I wanted to make a quilted, patchwork kind of thing, incorporating little bits of fabric that remind me of my childhood.  Every patch in this bag is from fabric my mom or grandma's used to make something for me when I was a child or something for themselves.  It took alot more time than I anticipated and I don't have any inprogress shots, but between cutting out the little pieces, sewing them all together, throw some batting, lining, pockts, it probably took about 20-25 hours total to make.  Oh and I tied it all over to keep the batting from shifting.

side one..and yeah I realize the bunny patch is upside down...oops..Wink

Wha cha think? Smiley
9  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / What is freezer paper?! Eek help! on: October 13, 2007 02:18:54 PM
Ok I have never stenciled on fabric before. Well accept when I was a kid with a little sponge. In general I'm a sewing, crocheting, jewelry making crafter. Paint is a whole new animal for me but looks like so much fun!!!  I've read some of the tuts and it seems most experienced stencilers are using freezer paper? What is this? Can I find it at Wal-Mart? Is it like butcher paper?  Someone help please Smiley
