671  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / First post! Melted bead ornaments! on: October 14, 2007 04:07:33 AM
Hello lovelies!  This is my first post, inspired by something I saw posted on here  Cheesy  I fell in love with bead melting before I even knew what it was.  I saw all the bowls and lamps and such posted on here, and I LOVED them.  I tried making a bowl of my own which didn't come out right at ALL (it does make a good hotplate though..) but it gave me an idea!

This Christmas is the first with my boy and I in our apartment, so it's pretty special Smiley  However, we have NO ornaments, so I wanted to do mostly handmade ones for our tree (I know, it's early, but you gotta start early!!)  And I thought this was a PERFECT way to use up this huge stash of pony beads I had (I had a phase of kandi bracelets a few years ago..)  So what I did was I got some metal cookie cutters on eBay (you can get huge lots of them cheap!) and a few at walmart, placed them on a pizza pan lined with foil, and filled 'em up with beads.  The smell was terrible, so I got my cats out of the kitchen, opened all the windows, put on all the fans, etc, baked them at about 450 for about 20 minuets, and here they are!  Before and after!  I hope you like them!

I did them pretty thick, a few layers of beads, which melted down a lot, but there's no space in between to string wire.  I'm going to try hotglue-ing ribbon to the bags to hang them with.  The mini-Halloween ones I'm going to put magnet backing on for the fridge!  The mini ones were a LOT harder to poke out of the cookie cutters because they were in tight, but I used a screw driver to sort of hammer them out.   Grin  The larger cookie cutters could be bent a little around the edges to work them out, which was nice.  I can't wait to make more!

Before baking:

After!
