1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Sculpted eyes plush. on: September 27, 2006 01:48:28 PM
Here's a little guy I finished up yesterday morning before work.

His body is made of this crappy old nappy faux fur that I found in a bargain bin somewhere - it's totally awful and ugly but I love it and it was perfect for this project.

He's about 7 inches tall (not counting ears) and the ears are lined with blended wool felt.  His teeth are velveteen, and he was stitched together by hand (I hate sewing machines, for the most part  Tongue ) with embroidery floss.

His faceplate is molded sculpey over glass eyes backed with 24k gold foil.  He's painted with acrylics, and the whole shebang is sewn onto the doll.

Thanks for looking!

If the lipstick has any sort of "off" smell, you shouldn't use it anymore.  Often lipstick formulas are mostly waxes and mineral oil, but often contain vegetable oils, which will eventually go rancid.

Iridescent micas abound for cosmetics, so I don't know about fish scales...but all cosmetics are required by the FDA to list ingredients, so that's a good way to tell.

Don't know about that one...couldn't find a pickle fragrance.

Dill essential oil, perhaps?

Vegetable oils all have different feels and different benefits - what works for one person may not work for another.  I really like the lighter oils for my skin - apricot kernal, fractionated coconut, sweet almond, jojoba, because my skin doesn't absorb heavy oils well.  Some of the heavier oils also leave the skin shiny, which some people like, but I'm not too fond of.

Here's a handy chart:
http://www.soapnuts.com/noncomo.html

It's not guaranteed to be accurate or anything, but it will give you an idea of the kinds of oils to avoid if you are prone to breakouts.  I can rub any amount of cocoa butter on myself, but some people have a problem with it.j

Canola, I've found, tends to leave the skin a bit sticky, but may be nice if you want to blend it with a lighter oil.  Extra Virgin Olive is supposedly good because of its minimal processing, and vitamins leftover in it.  Go ahead and experiment - you might come up with something perfect for your skin!

I have a friend who uses dental floss to sew patches on jackets - she swears it's way stronger than any thread.

good stuff - you can keep all sorts of things in there.

You know, I looked at the picture without reading the words and thought " where'd they get the cool sea monsters?"  I can't believe those used to be birds!

Everything looks great - I love the "sea" windowsill for them to swim in Cheesy  It's neat that you involved all the roommates to make the mural personal.  Very cool.
