1  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Hello...from Faerie lovers in O-town! on: September 25, 2007 02:23:21 PM
Hi Everyone,

I am new here...I had a hard time getting here, my email froze just as I sent off my registration. but I am glad to finally be in!

From the minute I found this forum...I have been hooked reading all kinds of posts for the last 2 days.

I was artistic growing up...loved and still love arts & crafts. In my school days I dressed very originally... I guess reconstructing (OMG! there's a word for this!) all kinds of things from the original hippie denim skirt out of jeans and triangle of fabric...to jeans purses and purses from placemats...bell bottoms out of straight legs (same way as the skirt w/ fabric triangles) to punky tees and jeans with paint and safety pins.

But my creations were rough in those days. All by hand and the rough added to the character of the pieces.

I am an avid thrift shopper..love the hunt...but in recent years fell into the more mundane, and stopped my trademark reconstructions.

I am now a mom of 3 kids with various needs...and duty and dedication calls. My life became giving to them...and I guess for years I lost sight of me along the way...which makes me so sad for that lost art living inside me. I had a piece made out of papercrafts in an exhibit years ago...it feels like a hundred years ago  now, and I wish to get back to that part of me!

I have all kids of crafting paraphernalia here...pieces of vintage fabrics I purchsed, just coz I liked them (never knowing what I'd use them for)...old jeans from many different eras...vintage gift wrap...paints...all kinds of things that I bought  while searching for my niche in the crafting world...never finding it, when the "special needs" came along.

I love vintage~ kitcshy~ shabby stuff even old homes, (they have SO much more character, don't they?) but my hubby loves new, & high tech!

He says  "if you drag home any more junk.........".  Grin he totally lost his garage (teehee!) Cheesy

I can't blame him, because we don't have a huge place, but I can't bear to throw out stuff I find pretty cool...in the hopes of one day doing something with these things. Maybe redoing them somehow would be the answer. I would love to find a place / craft for them now. only more refined than my rough stapling / safety pin days.

I do not have a working sewing machine. But maybe I can start out simply and stitch by hand. We are vegetarians...Earth concerned..and not adding more stuff to landfills, that can possibly be re-thought is important to me.

I also especially enjoyed the re-con purses and wallets that are made with fabric, jeans and shirts (so cool) don't even know if I can follow the tutorials. I am interested in bath products as well to make as gifts.

I love beads, but cannot make a clasp.

I learned basic knitting as a child, but forgot...would love to re-learn this art! Also I do not wear wool, so maybe someone else may want my wool sweaters, for re-claimed wool, a swap one of these days when I dig out the winter stuff.

I would also love to beautify my home on a budget with things I already have.

I am a frustrated artist and craftster!  Cry

I am hoping to find inspiration here. Keep posting your great pieces they are all beautiful in their unique originality! Many quite breathtaking! Cheesy

hugs,
mamachka

PS We are eclectic homeschooler's.  Any others out there that can relate to this?
Sorry so long!
