1  Illinois / Illinois: North / Chicagoland Knit Blogger Meetup on: July 09, 2006 07:08:12 PM

Hi everyone -

Arcadia Knitting is holding a Chicagoland Knit Blogger Meetup on Monday, July 31st at 7:00pm.  The idea is to meet up face to face with the people you know from cyberspace.  They're going to have a few designers on hand like Corinne Neissner of LuckyPennyHandmade.com showing off their latest creations as well as a sneak peek of the new yarns for this fall.  And tasty snacks and equally tasty prizes.

Arcadia is located at 1613 W. Lawrence Avenue - you can take the Lawrence or Clark Street bus to get there or the Red or Brown el lines (Lawrence and Damen stops respectively).  Lots of street parking as well.

Should be lots of fun...
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / any recommendations for leather embellishments/spots? on: December 21, 2004 10:02:06 PM

Any leather working folks out there?  I'm working on some jackets for a friend and I'm looking for a good site to order some spots - larger sized pyramid or diamond spots, specifically.  I estimate that I'm going to need a few thousand of these to finish things to spec, so wholesale or discount suppliers would be divine.

Any recommendations out there?

Muchas gracias in advance...

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help on pattern instruction on: May 15, 2004 04:39:10 PM

So I'm working on a pattern for a vest using Schachenmayr Princess (it's biscotti colored and even more delightful than when I saw it on Elann...  and the pattern instruction asks for me to:

+6  = on RS row work yarn-over; on WS row work 6 into yarn-over (= alt k1, p1)

I like to think I'm pretty decent at reading patterns but I have no idea what this means.  Any clues?
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / help - twist stitch on: March 12, 2004 03:31:18 PM

I'm currently working on an afghan pattern that calls for left twist and right twist stitches.  The instructions on how to do the stitches that came with the pattern are one of three ways I've discovered to do these stitches.  Unfortunately, I've managed to make a big mess of things attempting to use each of the three variations.  I understand the mechanics of these stitches, but I'm missing something because my knitting just looks... wrong.

Anyone have good way of explaining how to do twist stitches?
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knitting question - numb thumb on: December 21, 2003 11:00:04 AM

About a month ago, I picked up a Stitch n' Bitch book and learned how to knit.  I enjoy it very much and find knitting very relaxing.  However, I've noticed in the last week or so that my thumb on my left hand becomes numb after working on projects.  I really only noticed any problems when I switched to using aluminum needles.  Because of the problem, I've pretty much stopped working on anything since I don't want to cause damage to my hand.

I remember my fingers were a little numb when I learned to play guitar as well, since I had to build up some callouses from the strings.  I checked a lot of info on the internet which seems to suggest carpal tunnel problems.  Anyone else have a similar problem to this when they started knitting?  Am I overreacting?

My friend just sent me this invite.  I don't think she'll mind me posting it here:

It's that time of year when I would like to present you with an alternative Holiday shopping option. I will have a table w/some fellow atrisans at a Craft Fair at the Theater Building next Wednesday  evening. Here is some info about us:

7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Cat Dancers? on: December 01, 2003 07:24:40 PM

I just finished four showgirl costumes for a Vegas show and have a ton of extra feathers.  My cats' favorite toy is a cat dancer that has a feather tease - they destroy them on a regular basis.  I have to think it's pretty easy to construct, but I'm worried about making anything that they'd chew on in case the materials aren't so safe for kitties.

Has anyone made one of these before?
