3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Earring Swap? on: July 06, 2008 06:14:48 AM
Anybody ready for another earring swap?  I think it's been a few months since the last one and I always seem to miss out on them!
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Beadwoven DNA bracelet *now with tutorial link!* on: May 19, 2008 03:27:51 PM
I made this DNA bracelet for the Science IS Art! swap for my partner.  I'm not usually into beadweaving, but I altered an existing spiral pattern from a 3-sided spiral to a 4-sided spiral in order to make it scientifically accurate (yes, I'm a nerd!  Tongue).

Thanks to my partner Flip Flop for the great photo!  My picture didn't turn out nearly as nice!

*EDIT*

Here is the link to the tutorial that I used:

http://www.tarnhelm.com/NeedForBeads/RussianSpiral.pdf

I made the following alterations:

Instead of making the spiral 3-sided, I made it 4-sided by adding another bugle and two more size 11's on the original starting set of beads.

In order to make a scientifically accurate (aka, nerdy) spiral, I alternated using the black size 3 bugles with using 2 size 1 and 1/2 bugles in order to simulate the base pairs. Remember to use four different colors of the 1 and 1/2 bugles to represent the four different bases!  I just randomly chose two to use each time it came around.

If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask me...everything's clear in my head, but it may not have translated well into words!  Grin
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Turquoise and silver pendant on: March 16, 2008 07:18:46 PM
It's been a while since I've broken out the pliers and played with my stash, but it's my friend's bday in a few days and I wanted to make her a little something.  It's made with Bali silver, some silver chain, and natural turquoise beads.  I hope she likes it!

(sorry for the blurry pictures...the macro function wasn't working too well on my camera!)

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Amy Butler Placemats and Napkins! (pic heavy!) on: March 16, 2008 07:14:10 PM
So, like many people, I am slightly obsessed with Amy Butler fabrics.  I made these for a recent swap using the patterns in AB's In Stitches and some of her fabrics.  As always, comments appreciated!

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / There's a blizzard outside...so I made a wallet! on: March 08, 2008 12:38:36 PM
Well, Ohio is covered in snow, and I decided to get crafty and try my first attempt at a wallet...

And the action shot...

Let me know what you think...the bottom pocket for the checkbook was supposed to be twice as big, but I had pressed the pocket wrong after I had pressed the pockets for the credit cards and didn't want to undo all the work!  This is my first attempt at credit card slots, etc...I just used pieces I had left from some cheap fat quarters, so if it didn't turn out, I wasn't too upset!!  Smiley I'm pretty happy with the results!
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Amy Butler Frenchy Bag! on: February 28, 2008 06:43:34 PM
I bet AB didn't expect her bag to be done in skullys!!

I made this bag for my friend who loves pink and skulls as a thank you for watching my kitties while I was gone.

9  Florida / Florida: Central / Moving to Brevard County... on: February 02, 2008 03:07:34 PM
Hello everybody,
I will be moving to Brevard County soon, and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions or information regarding crafting groups (I primarily bead, however, I've gotten back out the old sewing maching again!) or cute bead or fabric stores that have a good selection that's not your typical JoAnns or Michaels.  I'm moving there by myself for a job and would love to meet some people that share a common interest outside of work!
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Oooo, how I heart copper chain! on: October 06, 2007 03:56:51 PM
After seeing this in a fashion magazine, I decided that I had to make my own version!

Worn a different way:

Pretty chain!!

Hope you guys like it!  As always, comments appreciated!
