- If no, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES/NO

Details of swap:
This Secret Santa-style swapopen to all current and former members of STSis a chance to build some STS spirit, express our appreciation for this great community, and have a little low-stress holiday funfor whatever winter holiday you celebrate!

This is a low-stress swap:  we will be swapping one medium and two small items.  According to Craftster, medium and small items are equivalent to the following:
MEDIUM  = 2 to 3 hours, $10-$30 (a set of notecards, a scarf, a simple bag)
SMALL  = less than 2 hours, less than $10 (earrings, a wallet, a bookmark)

Extras and spoiling are finejust keep in mind that since this isnt a partner swap, theres no way to ensure that you will be equally spoiled!   Whatever you send, be sure to wrap your items in a holiday fashion.

This swap is all about the secret.  Your partner wont know who you are until opening your package.  In turn, you wont know who will be sending to you until you receive.  That means that when you receive your partner's info, you will stalk her in silence.  You must NOT contact your partner and let her know who you are!  And be careful when posting in the STS forum!  If you have questions about sizing or other issues, feel free to contact your group leader, who will direct your question to your partner while maintaining your anonymity!

You may reveal yourself in the package you send, or if you prefer, in the gallery thread after your partner posts photos of your package.  As STSers, we might recognize one anothers addresses, so revealing yourself in your package is probably the way to go.

As for revealing your partner to the group in the forum:

When you receive, WAIT UNTIL DEC 1st to name the person who sent your package in the thread.

Or, if you (as a sender) didn't identify yourself in the package you sent AND if your package has been received, you can reveal your identity in the forum after the 1st.

In the meantime, feel free to post gallery photos of the package you received.  It's also fine to chatter about who might have sent which package!

As in STS, you must agree to send internationally.  You may not have to, but as in STS, we want to make this an inclusive community!  Since this is a small swap, shipping should not be expensive.

Throughout the swap, you will be expected to:
* PM your group leader (either oneredboot or loves2experiment) when you send and when you receive.  Remember NOT to PM your partner!!     Please title your PMs for this swap STS Community Holiday Swap SENT / REC / Question  as appropriate.  If you are sending within your own country, you must have a DC# (delivery confirmation number).  Include the DC in your SENT PM.  If you are sending outside of your country and cannot get a tracking number, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping.

* When you receive, post photographs in the gallery

If you want to participate, PM oneredboot and loves2experiment with the following information.  We're keeping the q'nnaire short since most of us have swapped multiple rounds of the STS with each other--and also to keep the swap low-stress!

Please title your sign-up PM for this swap STS Community Holiday Swap Sign-up and be sure to copy both organizers.

Post your holiday treats here!
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / STS Community Holiday Appreciation Swap / Round 2 on: September 13, 2010 08:45:22 AM
It's that time of year!  Back by popular demand--and with new, improved, longer crafting time--the STS Community Holiday Appreciation Swap!

This is a Secret-Santa-style swap open to all current and former members of STS.  It's a chance to build some STS spirit, express our appreciation for this great community, and have a little low-stress holiday funfor whatever winter holiday you celebrate!

This year, STSers have asked for a longer crafting time, so signups will be from Sept 20 to Oct 4; partners will be PMed by Oct 6.
Send-outs are Nov 22nd--that's a hefty crafting time!  I just hope we can keep a secret that long...

My co-organizer for this swap will be the amazing loves2experiment.

DETAILS
This is a low-stress swap:  we'll be swapping one medium and two small items.  According to Craftster, medium and small items are equivalent to the following:
MEDIUM  = 2 to 3 hours, $10-$30 (a set of notecards, a scarf, a simple bag)
SMALL  = less than 2 hours, less than $10 (earrings, a wallet, a bookmark)

Spoiling is fine--last year's packages were over the top!--just keep in mind that since this isnt a partner swap, theres no way to ensure that you will be equally spoiled!

As in STS, you must agree to send internationally.  You may not have to, but as in STS, we want to make this an inclusive community!  Since this is a small swap, shipping should not be expensive.  [If you are really in a bind this season and would not be able to participate b/c of this requirement, PM me and we can see what we can do.]

One last requirement:  be sure to wrap your items in a holiday fashion.

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Fix for an Unraveling Edge? on: June 26, 2010 03:56:16 PM
I knit up this Ishbel shawl a few months ago and finally got around to blocking it this weekend:

Is the process, I found this:

Two stitches unraveling at one edge!  I have no idea how this happened...perhaps I failed to bind off these last two, and they were just hanging out as live stitches all this time?

However it happened, how can I fix this?  There are no ends--only the two stitch loops, which as you can see became one large loop when I tried to manipulate them back in place.  Any suggestions about how to stabilize the situation?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated!!  Thank you!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / source for denim-print knit to make leggings? on: May 28, 2010 08:14:42 PM
I've been searching (fruitlessly) for a denim-look-alike knit fabric to make a pair of these leggings.  Any thoughts on finding a similar stretchy knit fabric printed with a denim look? Any leads would be much appreciated--thanks!
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Counting Bean Bags on: April 17, 2010 11:33:43 AM
I used this tutorialto make three sets of counting bean bags as Xmas gifts for the small ones in the family:

It's a great, simple project that uses up tons of scraps.

My only adjustment to the tutorial would be to omit the zig-zag stitch around the numbers.  I think the wonder-under is stuck on there pretty tight (so it doesn't need extra stitching), and I thought that the zig-zag stitch made it a little harder to read the numbers.

Also, I accidentally did them from zero to 9 instead of 1 to 10, which could be either really confusing or very educational for the kids playing with them--not sure!  I'll probably do that differently next time, too.    Smiley

Here's another shot of the showing some of the back fabrics:

If you want to participate, information to send to organizers

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:Ongoing Offer What You Have Swap - October 09
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? (you must be to join):  (*Please note that this means you have to be willing to send ANY item from your shop out of the country*)
Confirm that are at least 18 years old (and please mention how old you are if under 18) (yes/no):
Your list of at least five items (crafts you can make/have ready-made or details of supplies you wish to offer), detailed description not necessary:
Have you read the swap info (in this post) carefully and commit to follow the rules of the swap?:

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is an ongoing swap: Claim an item from the list of the last person who posted and post your own list in response. It makes a chain. When we get to the end of the month, the very last person to post a list will be the first person to post a list at the beginning of the next month, if Craftsters decide to organize a new round at that time.

Remember your outstanding claim limit for this round:
Friend of Craftster: Three (become a Friend of Craftster!)
First-Time Swapper: One
Everyone Else: Two

This is how many pending at a time you may have. As soon as one of your packages is received then you may claim again.

Your list of offerings: if your list stays up for more than 48 hours before someone claims from it, you must add something to it. You can also allow claimers to add more items together to make a claim (i.e. they don't seem to be biting on your earrings, so now they can take two pairs for a single claim instead of just one.) If you are having trouble coming up with stuff to add, consider offering a small item to be custom made for the person who claims from you. This can be conditioned on using stash items if you wish. Remember that it must be something that you can complete in two weeks, unless your partner agrees otherwise.

Once someone claims from you, you have two weeks to get the package in the mail.  Please contact the organizer by personal message when you send the package and when you receive a package so everyone gets credit.

ALSO: Please make sure to post to the discussion thread so you stay up on any updates!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not sign up unless you are willing to send outside of your country.  This means that you will be willing to send ANYTHING in your list out of the country, if claimed.  Please do not list items as "US only."  If you feel that an item is too heavy to send internationally, please do not list it in your shop.

Check out the previous rounds if you need help figuring out the scope of what to put on your list. It is typically in the $5-$15 range, from a half a yard to a couple yards of fabric depending on weight and fanciness, crafted accessories, grab bags of yarn, beads, buttons and notions, things of that nature.

Photos and the Gallery: Whenever possible, include pictures of the items you're offering in your posts. When you receive, it is important for you to thank your partner, be courteous and communicative, but a lot of the items are premade or stash, so posting pictures in the Gallery isn't crucial. The exception to this is when something is custom-made for you in this swap. And if you make something with supplies you receive in this swap, we want to see it!

Delivery Confirmation numbers are mandatory for people in the U.S. sending to other people in the U.S., and everyone else must keep their receipts.

This round of the swap will close around midnight, on the official Craftster clock, October 31st. Feedback will be given on November 1st for all participants who have no pending claims. Everyone whose packages haven't been received will get feedback once the package reaches its destination.

Reminders/Summary:
1. Make sure to PM the organizer and who you sent to when you send out, with DC number if you are both in US.
2. Make sure to PM the organizer and who you receive from when you receive.
3. As soon as you claim something from someone, shoot them a PM with your address so that they have it and don't have to chase you down later.
4. Lets keep this swap moving, Please try to stay on top of adding new things/combining items into one claim if your list stays up more than a couple days, or the organizer will hunt you down and remind you.
5. Post pics in the gallery if someone makes you something custom or you make something from supplies you receive.
6. Lets try to keep this thread for lists as much as possible to save on confusion. If your list is up, you may post a "bump" after you have added something new/combined your items, but otherwise please try to post all questions/comments/requests/whatever into our discussion thread .
