1  Re: Crochet Challenge 9 Entry: Rainbow Booties & Bonnet For Baby in Crochet: Completed Projects by dawnsierra on: June 03, 2009 12:01:29 PM
Its HERE!! It arrived this morning!! *happy dance*

I'm not sure if I post this here or someplace else but this seemed like the logical place. Just let me know if I need to post this someplace else if I'm mistaken..

I have NO idea what I'll make yet. I'm thinking maybe Irish Crochet.. whatcha' think? Wink

It's 1000 yards of size 10 crochet thread dyed in lovely greens. She used procion dyes which are totally safe for baby's skin. Awww...  Smiley

Thanks SO SO much SuperHooker! The thread is lovely and I'm so glad its finally here so I can make something! W00t! What that will be.. I have no idea. lol Grin

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to vote for me. I loved particpating and seeing the other entries come in one by one. Then winning was a total shock and I was so proud. And now to receive this beautiful prize SuperHooker worked so hard on..  its just amazing. I couldn't be happier..

Thank you a million times.. thank you..  Cheesy

2  Quick and Easy Flower Pattern Needs Testing in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by dawnsierra on: May 23, 2009 04:28:56 AM
I actually posted this pattern here but I thought maybe it needed its own thread(topic.)  Wink

I'm working on writing up the pattern(s) for my flowers I made for the baby hats here. Would someone want to test out this initial pattern for me? Its totally free and I'll be giving out the completed flower pattern(s) when I'm done (hopefully booboo free.)
Here's the flower in its various sizes used for the twin's set I made not long ago.

This is just the very smallest flower. It doesn't take long AT ALL to make and gauge, etc. shouldn't matter...however I'd recommend making it a little bit loose if you're a tight crocheter like me.

This flower pattern is free to make, free to sell for small home business however DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THIS PATTERN PLEASE.

Small Flower

Rnd 1
Create adjustable loop, make 12 sc in loop, join with sl st.

Rnd 2
Ch 5, make 3 hdc in front and spine loop of 3rd ch from hook, hdc in front loop of next ch, sc in front loop of next ch, sl st in next two sts (repeat round 5 times)

Rnd 3
[Working up sides of chs from previous row] Sc in front and spine loop of next next ch,  hdc in front and spine loop of next next ch, skip 2 chs, sl st in next ch, sl st in next 9 sts (repeat 5 times), finish off

Please feel free to post any mistakes or miswordings here!  Grin

3  More Thread Crochet Baby Goodies! -very pic heavy- NOW LOOKING FOR TESTERS! in Crochet: Completed Projects by dawnsierra on: April 24, 2009 02:31:17 PM
UPDATE:
. . . . . .

First off I was completely shocked I won the shell stitch challenge! I'm currently waiting with baited breath for superhooker's wonderful custom dyed yarn thread for my prize. *Glee!* (I'll post pics of the thread just as soon as it arrives! Thanks again to superhooker for going to so much trouble!) As many of your know my post here features the bonnets and also booties from the set I entered for the challenge. Several people asked if patterns would be made available and that they would like to test them. Well I do hope the offer still stands.. lol

If you ARE interested in helping test these patterns please stop by my deviant art account for further information.
Oh and if you have a deviant art account go ahead and add me and let me know so I can add you back!  Wink

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement! It was an honor having won but more so it felt really wonderful just taking part.

. . . . . .

Well the shell stitch challenge is almost over and the last minute entries are coming in. I wanted so much to hold off and add more to my entry but .. *eep*.. couldn't afford to. Oh well.. maybe next time.. maybe next time..

Anywho.. my entry was done in rainbow thread and you can find it here..
I did the entry in variegated thread to really show off all the little shells. I actually made the pattern for the hat and booties myself and this was my first time ever writing a pattern! Yeah me! lol I already mention all this in my entry post but, just today, I finally finished making the baby shower gifts for the twins! I made them for my husband's friend at work who's pregnant with twin girls! Wow! I really really hope she likes them.. and I hope you do as well. Please let me know what you think.. Cheesy

Now I would have done the shell booties I had designed BUT this was a custom 'order' for my hubby and he wanted sandals for summer. lol Aww..  So I did my best to do a shell stitch edging on the booties to match the hats. Also the flowers are my own design.. however their very simple. I think I might have to write up the pattern and post those sometime. Right now its just done in sloppy symbols.. lol Wink

Here's what my actual entry looks like in the variegated thread.

I really liked joining in my first challenge here and I love the other entries. I'd recommend coming to have a look see! They're all really wonderful! Cheesy

Talk about putting things off until the last minute! lol You see last night I was up until 2am sewing little flowers on booties and hats and then just minutes ago weaving ribbons and tying bows. I JUST barely had enough time to snap a few quick pictures before my husband had to rush off to work with the baby shower gifts for his coworker. She's having twin girls! I'm so excited for her! I really hope she'll like the gifts..

ANYWAYS.. the reason I'm posting is I wanted to show the same shell hat from my baby shell set in a solid color. So here's not one but two! lol Cheesy

I must admit I like how the solid colored thread makes the hat look much more lacy and light however their dense enough to still help to keep baby's head warm. Also I'm glad I decided to make these two as well.. helped me make a correction or two on my pattern. lol I couldn't find a flower pattern I liked so I just made something up. I like them on the hats but the smaller version for the shoes are.. eh.. so-so..

(I would have done the shell booties but Mike really like the sandals for summer.. aww.. hes so thoughtful. So I just added a shell edging to try and match the hats.)

A few people have mentioned the thread.. just so ya know, because I know how flipping hard it can be to find thread colors, I used Aunt Lydia's crochet thread, size 10 and I believe the color is 'Mexicana.' Here's Mexicana and some other colors...
http://www.coatsandclark.com/Coats/Templates/Products%20-%20Full%20Auto.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={1CB6886C-3F97-4A77-BF14-12AABAFB2551}&NRORIGINALURL=%2fProducts%2fKnittingCrochet%2fThreads%2fSize10%2fAunt%2bLydias%2bClassic%2bCrochet.htm&NRCACHEHINT=Guest

Of course Hobby Lobby and Michaels don't have anywhere NEAR as many colors as you see on the official site but ordering online means paying postage.. arg. If it were up to me I'd grab some more Mexicana, some light peach,  some wood violet, some mint, some shaded pinks.. oh heck any variegated.. OH and some maize or golden yellow for flower centers would rock! Also the ocean variegated I do recommend and would also work quite well for the shell stitch here. Anywho if you don't mind paying postage your far more likely to find a larger variety. HOWEVER you can always buy white and dye it.. which I've been far too worried about ruining my precious thread to do. lol Unless someone out there has a goof proof tutorial on how to dye thread for little to no money. (Coincidentally 'little to no money' happens to be the exact amount I have at the moment. Funny how that works.. hehe) Wink
On a related note.. I HAVE tried looking for more thread colors on Ebay BUT after paying postage its far more than you pay at the store. Also people want to sell their thread or yarn remnants from their stash for nearly what you'd pay, again, at the store and in, who knows, what kind of condition (smoke smelling, cat hair covered, etc.)

I KNOW.. I type SO much! Eep! And YES.. I AM this chatty in real life (after you get past my awkward shy exterior.) haha I just can't help myself!
Must.. add.. one... more... thing..!

Forgive me, bragging is wrong, and I'm a bad person.. I know but this is amazing to me.. I never do well at anything so this is just.. *ugh*... well amazing...

I've got two projects under hot new projects right now and one of them is my bonnet and booties for the shell challenge!!! How awesome is that?! Also djonesgirl's adorable Amigurumi Tropical Fish is up there too! Sweet!! *high fives*  Cheesy
(I love her fishy... you should go check it out too!)

Okay done feeling special now.. back to my housewifery... lol

6  PRIZE HAS ARRIVED - Crochet Challenge 9 Entry: Rainbow Booties & Bonnet For Baby in Crochet: Completed Projects by dawnsierra on: April 05, 2009 12:49:56 PM

My prize for the challenge came in the mail this morning! See pictures on page 3! Cheesy

Rainbow Booties & Bonnet For Baby

UPDATE: Pics of the bonnet in solid white with flowers on page 2.

This is my first time entering a challenge!! W00t! Of course I have no delusions of winning but I've really been wanting to make some patterns of my own and this seemed like a good source of inspiration.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I had intended on making a full set, perhaps with mittens or a little vest, but I ran out of my rainbow thread and more just isn't in the budget right now. I'm fairly happy with them as is though and maybe in the future I'll try to have more thread on hand. *shrug*
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Both the little bonnet and booties are my own design. They should both fit around 0-3 month old babies however the booties run a teencie bit small however they are stretchy and larger than some bootie patterns I've made from other people's patterns. The booties were my very first pattern to make EVER, very exciting. Of course the bonnet was my second ever pattern to make; however, in all fairness, I haven't typed up the bonnet pattern from my notes yet but will do. (I may be asking for help in testing both patterns in the near future.)
I used a shell stitch and v-stitch design and made sure to use a fun variegated thread to show off the pattern. (I could have, alternatively used alternating colors for the same reason but who doesn't love rainbows I ask you?) I did a much taller eyelet round for both the hat and booties than is recommended in most patterns I have. Just (dc, ch1) isn't quite high enough for 1/4 ribbon.. and I like the tr v-stitch look to.. just to be different. The hat is made with the same shell and v-stitch design through out. The booties I did with a slightly narrowed heel for a better fit and I opted NOT to use my usual flowers, etc being the colorful thread seemed enough. Oh and, of course, this is size 10 thread throughout...
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Okay on with the pictures and.. sorry for the rambling.. (I'm just really excited)..

Can't wait to see the other entries!!!  Grin

7  Thread Crochet Sunhat & Booties For Baby in Crochet: Completed Projects by dawnsierra on: March 31, 2009 04:12:26 PM
I've been looking for thread crochet patterns for babies 0-3 months old but dang.. its really difficult. I started a thread in hopes of finding some help here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=298355.0. Particularly I keep seeing these ADORABLE brimless cloche type hats for babies but I can't find a free pattern anywhere. lol (Maybe you'd call them lacy beanies or skullcaps??) Oh well.. that's what I get for being broke. I'll eventually have to make one, it seems, or purchase one. One of the links someone gave me, though, was for a really cute sunhat that I had actually already downloaded and made just recently. It reminded me to post some new pictures. Wink

I really like this pattern but it took me days and days, I'm SLOW, I'd prefer a faster/simpler stitch like open shells or better yet v-stitch. *pokes link above* She, the pattern designer over at Crochet Garden, uses SC's and chains for the hat portion and then lacier designs for the brim. I should mention I goofed and put in an extra row of loops done close together but decided it was actually cute that way.. a bit more ruffly.. so I left it be. I did the hat all in white, which was a bit boring, so I spruced up the hat and booties with pink hydrangea inspired flowers with glass pearl centers. Because I made the brim SO ruffly I made the flower bit on the hat detachable.. so you could remove it not only to better match the baby's outfit BUT also so you could use it to tie up the brim to get it out of the baby's eyes if need be. I was going to use a pin but decided on a simple ribbon tie instead. The hat isn't quite as tall as it appears.. its just sitting high up on the ruffled brim.
All in all a faster/better crocheter than I would do better for certain but I was so proud when I finally finished it. Thank you Crochet Garden for the lovely pattern! *mua!* Your the best!

When and IF I ever manage to get over to the post office to pick up some boxes and what not to ship these little guys.. I'll only then have to figure out how to pack the hat and booties without squishing them.
(Can you tell that (a) I stress easily and (b) I don't get out much? Yup.. thought it was pretty obvious. Oi.)

On a side note:
How the heck are you supposed to keep satin ribbon from fraying on the ends? *shrug*

OMG  Shocked

No way...

Does the picture in the center look familiar? lol That is too sweet.. Thank you SO much for whoever made THAT miracle happen.  Grin

Anywho one of those bootie related books, well booklets, I mentioned finally came in and I found the person who was supposed to send out the other one is on vacation or something so that's gonna' be a while. *shrug* Oh well.. that's alright because the Christening set book is SO amazing! Just as soon as I finish my current project I'll see about making something from the booklet. *giddy* Such a good day...  Cheesy
My next finished project will be baby/bootie related most likely so hm.. I don't know if that needs to be under a new post or put here. *shrug*

Thanks again for the wonderful support! I was a little nervous about making my first completed project post but everyone has been incredibly helpful and kind.
THANK YOU!

I didn't know if I should post these here or make a new thread. *shrug*
Anywho here's the latest booties and I wanted to post some pictures before they got sold. (fingers crossed)

I really really like my 'wild flower' booties BUT they look TERRIBLE here due to poor lighting. The flash didn't work well and just.. pff.. *gives up* Sorry for the very poor quality...

The 'wild flower' booties are just two different kinds of flowers from two different varigated threads with leaves and all, with the flowers and leaves wrapping around the bootie cuff. The cuff is just something I made up. I wanted something really frilly and wavy and big for a change.
The mary jane's are from a free online pattern but gr-bah I remember where. (I have SOOO many crochet links saved... its a mess.) Anywho I really really like this pattern but I'm thinking about adding an extra row of dc's to fill it out a bit more.

Anywho the booties I posted previously, the ones with the violet flowers, SOLD today! Can you believe it! I was SO happy.. I actually got teary eyed. Now I can use the money to get schtuff for crochetin'... hehe Joy!! Cheesy

(Again sorry for the awful pics. I know their dreadful.)  Roll Eyes

10  My first post ever in completed projects! W00t! -pic heavy- UPDATED in Get Product and Website Opinions by dawnsierra on: March 09, 2009 02:37:00 PM
Ok so I'm a bit excited.. the close up lense for my father's camera came in and I finally got to take some decent close ups of my work. *dances* Whoohoo! Anywho...
I originally first posted some pictures of my work in progress in the help section due to the fact I COMPLETELY bungled it on my first go.  Embarrassed I finally got it sorted out and made a couple of pairs. Also I made the bottom seamless... yeah me.  Cheesy
Here are a few pictures of my Irish rose booties plus some others I recently made. (Yes.. just like nearly everyone else here I'm planning on opening an etsy shop to help fund my crochet addiction.)  Roll Eyes

So here you can see the booties from side view, a view of the seamless bottom, how they look on my Mom's old WWII dollie (her name is Clementine & shes about the size of a 3 month old or so I think and yes.. she quite a story to tell.. another time maybe), random booties picture and finally the Irish rose booties done in ecru and also show with newborn ecru bonnet.

I'm still working at trying to improve my crochet not to mention trying to improve my speed. It takes me a day to make these little suckers and I'm not planning on charging more than about 10 dollars or so.. (anymore and I seriously doubt they'd sell.) I do love making them though.. also I've been fiddling with Irish crochet jewelry.

So.. there ya go.. my first completed project post. *pride*
