11  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / rare photos of the easter platypus *sort of image heavy...* on: April 14, 2006 04:45:08 PM
the easter platypus visited my house!

i spied the easter platypus in my window box.  i snuck up on him to photograph the magnificent creature...

here we see him foraging in a window box.

the mighty platypus finds no shrimp in the window boxes to his dismay...

here we see the platypus being discovered and held by an irrevereant human...

12  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / giraffe bed pillow to snuggle with on: March 14, 2006 02:27:09 PM
this was a pretty simple project, but i thought it turned out cute.  this was a christmas present for my best friend.  it is for her bed and she can put love notes or other stuff in the pocket.

she reports that she sleeps with it every night.  it is really soft flannel.
13  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / starry amigurumi elephant on: March 14, 2006 02:23:15 PM
i made this little pink elephant for my friend:

she's about 6" tall and features white stars on her ears and tummy.  i used the pattern from How to Crochet Amigurumi Animals: http://www.anniesattic.com/detail.html?prod_id=17874

i left it to my friend to name her and determine what she likes and dislikes after getting to know her.
14  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / quilter's cat scarf, stuffed animal, and ornament on: December 20, 2005 05:02:35 PM
since all of these are themed to go together, i thought i would show them together!  i made them for my mom for xmas. she loves both quilting and cats.  i found this perfect coordinating fabric and made the following...

ornament for her cat xmas tree (she has a bunch of xmas trees in her house, all themed).

stuffed animal.  it was made from a pattern from some book from the library but i had to wing the bottom because the pattern piece for it did not fit the main body i had made.  i was going to make two, but i was too tired after this one...

a scarf, i just made it up.  it is made up of two different fabrics, the one fabric, i just cut a rectangle from (the one with the text) as the focal point.  the round thing with the cat head, is a pin from that fabric (using my cheap pin maker which i discovered will take fabric as well as paper) to hold it closed b/c she would not wear it wound around her neck:
15  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / i love poptarts! on: October 19, 2005 04:17:23 PM
i love the little drawings of the anthropomorphic poptarts on the packaging of my favorite breakfast food.  so in honor of them, i made this small pillow.  based on the basic poptart people features, i drew him up and embroidered him.  i don't think he is an actual flavor of poptart (white frosting with pink and purple sprinkles), but if it existed, i think he would mixed berry-flavored.

sorry for the poor quality picture!
16  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / zipper pouches that only a mother could love on: August 29, 2005 05:01:10 PM
actually i was quite proud of these dang zipper pouches.  after months of wanting to make these and after the realization i did not have a zipper foot for my machine, i finally got my mom (quilter extraordinaire) to sit with me and help me out (as well as find a foot for my machine).  she taught me a way a bit different from the tutorials i have seen on this site.

here are all i have made so far:

i found that using a quilting square helped me see where i was cutting.

in these pictures, you can tell that the way i put them together is different:

in the tutorials, the edges of the zipper is sandwiched between the outside and lining.  mine are not.  just the way my mom showed me!
i am off to make a zillion more!
17  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / linus the introspective sock creature *updated with helen! on: July 27, 2005 05:32:26 PM
this is linus, my first ever sock creature.  i just got the book "stupid sock creatures" and was inspired to try my hand at it!

linus is single and lives at home with his mom.  he likes watching steve the bunny play in the yard, badmitton, and lemon frosting.  he is very self-conscious and introspective, so he has trouble meeting other people.  he hopes to find a job in computer repair, but the job market is flooded with other sock creatures right now.  for now, he bags groceries at Whole Foods.

**************UPDATE ON LINUS!******************
well, linus decided to tutor kids in computer word processing so in the process he met a lovely young teacher named helen.  for now it is platonic, but who knows what will happen in the future!

18  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / strawberry bracelet cuff on: February 28, 2005 08:11:45 PM
inspired by the fruit and veggies swap i participated in, i made this cuff.  it velcros in the back and is made of a few types of ribbon sewn together (to make it wider/more "cuff-like") and a felt strawberry applique.
front back

yay for fruit ribbon!
19  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / a frog and some apples- tiny totes on: February 25, 2005 09:15:24 AM
i made both of these for swaps.  i was really proud of how the apple one came out.  they were just embroidered on those pre-made little totes you can get at joanns for 5 in a pack.  the frog is in stem and satin stitch.  the apples are in satin and back stitch.

20  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / japanese fish wall hanging on: December 20, 2004 08:41:01 PM
i really was not sure where to put this.  it involves felt, loose and crocheted yarn, sequins, and fleece.  just kind of experimenting and putting things together.  the fish design is from a book.  and i ended up with this...
