1  Which pattern should I use in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by clrowi on: February 15, 2011 02:35:23 PM
So, I've been hoarding this yarn forever:

(I hope that works...)

It was bought for me birthday... a YEAR ago!!! I've just been having a horrible time deciding what "pattern" to use for it.

I've narrowed it down a little.

I do NOT want a granny square.

I am not completely opposed to doing squares or hexagons, but would avoid it if I could find a solid-piece that I like.

I DO like Catherine's Wheel and Ripples.

What would YOU do with this yarn?

2  Re: tired of the sexy-everything costumes? in Halloween Costumes by clrowi on: October 19, 2009 10:48:52 AM
I made it through about 7 pages, and now I have to comment, sorry if this is repeating anyone!

In spirit of the original "sexy-everything" post, I thought I would give a little visual comparison for anyone interested:

REGULAR:

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SEXY?:

REGULAR:

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SEXY?:

REGULAR:

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SEXY?:

It's not a matter of appropriate vs inappropriate or anything, it's a matter of literally, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SEXY??? If you want to go as a pirate, then go as a pirate and if you want to go as a sultress, go as one... but why the need to mix the two?Huh??

clrowi - I love your color combinations!

That's stash-busting at it's finest!

I just completely finished a second blanket for a friend's son who's first birthday is today. And made a little star-shaped pillow to go with it too. It's probably around low 20-something in rounds, and the pillow is under 10. All told, it took me about 10 hours, not including hand-making the actual "pillow" insert in the pillow.

I think I may be addicted, because I'm already planning 2 more :O

Here's blankie:

Blanket is 21 rounds, I edged it in slip stitch ( I think it was mentined in an earlier post) to tidy it up. The pillow is 7, including the edging done to close it up. Done in RedHeart SuperSaver.

Wow! everyone's made such interesting work! I feel like these shouls be displayed in one of those "fancy" art museums!!

Oh, yah, the important news...

I RECEIVED "F" TODAY!! And it's "F"antastic! I love the psychology behind it, and that there is SOOO much expression in those eyes!

karin_ if you have a better picture, please post it, as my crap-tography does not do this card justice.

The last convo I had with my DH went like this:
Me: "next weekend, I'm gonna go grab some balls"
He: "what...?" and a dumbfounded expression... "what kind of balls?"
Me: "whatever balls I happen to come across"
He: still looking really confused, doesn't say anything... he's really trying to figure out where I'm coming from
Me: "yarn balls, dear"
He: "oh..." another pause, and a slight smile

Here I was thinking i had a good line to start some fun with... grabbin balls...

Oh, I remebered that my job at work used to comsist of pressing balls, so maybe he got confused by that??!!!

Okay, enough going on and on....

Here's Me blankie so far:

I just finished the row with that navy ball there. Works up pretty quickly. Definitely need to block it though (that's why it looks all wavy), cuz I can't keep consistent tension to save my life!

karin_ asked me to post the "D" card I did for her, pre-mail abuse Sad

The lyrics in the back are "Stayin' Alive" by the Beegees.

I do so need to apologize for wrapping them all in newsprint too. For some reason my brain thought that it was a great idea... ummm... yah, that was a mistake. Next time I promise to use bubble wrap! Sorry again everyone, feel free to flog my in the street if ever we meet in person!

7  HORRID STUPID MACHINE in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by clrowi on: April 27, 2008 02:32:55 PM
Okay, I'm a NEWBIE sewer and it's not the machine, it is me, because this is the second machine I've screwed up like this and CAN'T figure out how to fix it.

Can someone please help??

8  Re: Post Photos of Your Tattoos! in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by clrowi on: April 20, 2008 03:21:17 PM
WOW! There is some awesome work in this thread (and the last). SO hard to go through it all and remember which ones I loved, and which ones I thought were crazy!! But, I guess you do have to be in a different state of mind to intentionally wound yourself, now don't you??!!  Grin

Anyways... this is my first tattoo. The pic was taken the same day, about 3 hours after. Love the woman who did it for me, she really is an incredible artist, but because of my nervousness, I didn't pay enough attention to the sketch, or as to it's direct placement on my back!!! I HATED it for a long time. Had to remind myself that I KNEW it was permanent BEFORE I went in, and that I din't have a right to complain about it. Thankfully, it's on my back, and not somewhere I can see it unless I WANT to.

The colours suck in the pic, it's turquoise and navy. Can you all notice the flaw, or do I write it off as part of it being "original" and "unique"?

9  My crochet endeavours so far *pic INTENSE* in Crochet: Completed Projects by clrowi on: April 05, 2008 10:39:33 PM
So, now that I've got this pic-hosting thing down (mostly), I'll post the other things I've been up to.
And be forewarned, I suck at taking pictures, and I am new to this "show off your work" stuff!! Everything is made out of RedHeart SuperCHEAP, because I didn't want to be experimenting with nice, soft, expensive yarn!

First ever completed scarf, made for my mom for XMas:

Closeup of detail:

The pattern came from a link off Craftster, something along the lines of "Irish Roses" or something, but because I did this back in December, I can't remember... Sad The detail is just surface-stitched in single crochet.

Then the first toque (hat for the non-Canadians!) I ever made... Made for me, but turned out too small, so my DD got it instead... but, cuz it's made of cheapo yarn, it scratched her ears and was never worn after the pictures were taken  Sad

Then my daughter demanded a "Santa Hat," in the sweet way that 3 year olds have, and I just had to oblige. Totally winged this after gaining confidence with the previous toque. Made out of Much thinner yarn, the kind that comes on a cardboard tube (??I am still completely clueless about this stuff!!). The edge is done in regular stuff, using a puff stitch I believe it's called, to give it some OOMPF.

An Eco-Sleeve for my sister... did another one too, but I can't find the pic right now. Done in ribstitch (?) for stretch, "embroidered" with yarn and a darning needle.

And last, but not least, a neckwarmer for a friend, this had some super-soft yarn in it, and some pretty button I found *somewhere*

Sorry for the picture overload, I am just so darn excited to be able to start sharing!!

Questions, comments, criticism (why does that look like it's spelled wrong??!!) are welcome!!

10  My FIRST amigurimi in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by clrowi on: April 05, 2008 09:51:30 PM
And first attempt at using Craftster picture hosting...

I cannot for the life of me remember where I got the pattern from, but I know I got the original bug from looking Craftster! It's made out of scrap yarn, probably some Red Heart SuperSaver or something else like that. It was SO EASY. I stuffed it with some scrap fleece I had around, glued on some wiggle eyes, and drew on a smile, cuz I could NOT get stitching to look even remeotely decent!

Anyway, enough words, here is the (badly executed) pic:

*hope that works!!* YEAH IT WORKED!!!
