This is actually a bit old, I made it a few days before Halloween. I have a bucket list of sorts and on it I had put that I wanted to make something from scratch. So the darling boy and I went out to an apple orchard that is down the street from my house and picked through what was left.
The recipe is from a book called "The Best Recipe" and it was written by a bunch of people who tested hundreds of different ways to make somewhat common recipes. They also tested the tools used to make them (for example, here they tested apple peelers) and I love that they devote a whole page before each recipe describing what/how they tested. This particular apple pie has a very fresh and light taste because they used lemon-y elements in it, and let me tell you, it was FANTASTIC! Everyone loved it. Plus, the apples stayed crisp instead of getting all soggy and syrupy. But I'll describe more in the pictures!
The apples were so delicious with the cinnamon and lemon and sugar all over them, I would consider make them that way by themselves as a apple dessert-salad.
The kitchen was much messier than this photo may let on!
The crust ended up being like a shortbread crust, but I think that was because I added a whole extra cup of sugar, in my eagerness
It was delicious, nonetheless.
