Creative, fun, and well done! I especially like the "Poe-A-Tree" design. Clever!

Nicely done! I bought one on-line of the same design for 35 bucks! It's quite a bit larger, which is good because so am I (!), has a d-ring adjustable strap, and the little terry cloth corner, but it is not reversible like yours. I like the pattern I chose, but it's be nice to have a less conspicuous option at times.

Thanks for sharing the tute!

96  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Exploding book on: September 10, 2007 09:31:11 PM
Neat and nice work! I really like the arrows - they exaggerate the angular look of the open book.

I've been making little books like this for about 10 years, except I'd use 5 or 6 "pages" and glue them all the same way (instead of making the middle one "upside down" from the rest). When you do it that way, you can open them up to look like stars. Consequently, I have known them not as "exploding" books, but as "star" books.

You've motivated me to dig out some examples and post them! Thanks Smiley

I LOVE this!  And I would love to do this for my bedroom (I have blue walls, too, but a bit darker), but I'm not terribly artistic.  Did you freehand the pattern, or did you use tracing paper, or ...?

I drew the tree shapes freehand in pencil on the back side of the paper, then, after cutting, I erased any lines that I could see from the front (the margin, for example). The beauty with cutting tree branch silhouettes is that you can more or less take them wherever you like as long as they continue to taper. I did have my eye on my neighbor's maple tree as I was drawing, so that helped.

There may be some viable options online to trace as well, but I'd support going freeform first, if only to give it a try. Wink

Go for it!

if you haven't yet, check out nikki mcclure's cut-paper work.

Super cool! There's a real artistry to revealing an image without having any "positive" line cut off from the rest of the paper. Thanks for the link, the compliment, and the further inspiration!

Wow- impressive in size and style! I couldn't find the handles on first look -- they're camo'd on the sides. Wink
