271  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: little knitted slippers/ Mary Jane style on: October 15, 2004 04:01:39 PM
Hi Madchen!

I finished one of my slippers yesterday (would have finished them both but I got called into work early...).  Will post a pic later.  It is extremely cute.

After I play with the contrast, I like to use the Poster Edges filter in Photoshop -- it helps with the pixelation issue and helps simplify the edges a little as well.

I do live in Melbourne!  lol.

I tend to look for something with a decent amount of contrast already in the picture, and an interesting angle.  Actually, I think I just look for interesting angles because they tend to be the pictures that have more contrast...

I was going to do the whole thing in the flowered material, but realised early on that I wouldn't have enough.  I found the orange material and just sewed it onto the end of the flowered stuff, then placed the box pleats so that they matched up with the seam where the two different materials met.

The box pleats were pretty easy really -- you just have to figure out how much extra material they will need before you cut, and be extra pedantic about ironing, etc. so they end up the right size and in the right spot.

It's spring here in Australia, so today I decided that I needed a new skirt.  With no money and no pattern but enough materials on hand, this is what I came up with.

I've made plenty of bags and stuff before with no pattern, but never really any proper clothes, and I must say it's very liberating! Smiley

It is a river!  Daly River, infact, which is in the Northern Territory of Australia.

Thanks so much. Smiley

The show was really successful -- I sold 14 paintings out of 26, and the second, third and fourth paintings I posted there were three of those.  And I sold another one just yesterday.  Woot!  Not that success is all about selling, but it is nice. Wink
279  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / AUSTRALIA / Re: Anyone from melbourne? on: October 11, 2004 06:20:32 AM
Hello... another Melbournian checking in.

I know some of you from Glitter, and have been a member here for quite a while -- I just sort of forgot to come here.  Real life got in the way. Smiley

Anyway, I now live in Preston.  In my 8 years living in Melbourne, I've also resided in Richmond, Essendon, Kensington, Fitzroy, Kensington (2nd time round), Caulfield South and Coburg.

Did the craft meet-up thing ever get going?  That sounds like fun.

Thought I'd post some of my art here.

I recently had my first solo show, and these were some of the paintings on exhibit:

And here's one from a group exhibition I was in a little earlier:
