Thanks for all the lovely comments. Tutorial, eh? Let's see, I got a reference piece and softly sketched the face on the canvas. then I covered the parts that should remain white with liquid masking stuff, then added the hair and smoke with with several layers and water and sponges. then when that dried I added skin color and defined her face.
