11  Ruffly dress outta mens shirts in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by nolazombie on: September 28, 2009 05:34:10 PM

the dress is quite a few sizes bigger than the mannequin so it looks a little funky..

From-

and

I tried taking pics in progress, but looking at them, I don't think they really show what I did very well at all and I gave up part way through.  I'll post them though, if anyone wants.

12  Western shirt dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by nolazombie on: September 19, 2009 05:00:17 PM

I wish I'd taken a real before shot of this shirt, it was pretty ugly.  A 3x mens wrangler shirt with sleeves that were a good 10 inches too short for all of the big guys who tried it on.

So, snip snip, sew sew, then I dyed it black, and freehanded that horse on the front.  (The dress is only the black- the saggy blue-ish is a covering on my ratty dress form)

I do have an 'in progress' pic- you do get a hint of stripe in the finished dress.  I like it!

13  I have crafters block- ideas for finishing suit, plz. in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by nolazombie on: August 15, 2009 12:24:56 PM
I've been working on this suit for awhile now, and I can't decide how to finish it out.  I need something big on the back of the jacket, something that still fits the theme, but maybe a little different.  I was toying with the idea of doing a big martini glass and surrounding it with pink elephants, but I just don't know if I like that or not.

I think I am going to do a bit of faked out western piping embroidery along the collar- a line with little arrows on the ends, probably in black.

And I don't know about the skirt either.  Maybe do the glasses and elephants around the hem... whatcha think?  It'll all be finished out with rhinestones, but I have to get the rest of it figured out first!  Help!

14  Rocket ship flamingo! in Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects by nolazombie on: July 24, 2009 11:41:01 PM
This guy started life as a colored pencil drawing about 5 years ago.  I've always had a great deal of affection for him and he's been recreated in sooo many different medias. I'd been meaning to get him digitized for months and finally got around to it the other day.  Wish I hadn't waited so long! The pic is from my test run of the design.

15  Re: My new couch in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by nolazombie on: July 03, 2008 09:40:00 PM
 Grin Cheesy
Thanks guys!
Here are the progress pics- starting w/ the skeleton- that I had tons of help with.  I couldn't have done it on my own, so I gotta give mad props to my buddy for taking my ideas and making them functional.

Then I covered it with 90 million dollars worth of foam (only a slight exaggeration!)

Then got to upholstering..

And more..

Then it was done.

I used a some fake suede for it, which made things a little more complicated.  My sewing machine didn't like it all... but it was worth it.

16  My new couch in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by nolazombie on: July 03, 2008 07:11:54 PM
I got this crazy idea in my head a few months ago.  A skull couch.  Why not?  Nevermind my lack of carpentry skills, or the fact that I've never even reupholstered a couch before... when I decided I needed one, nothing was gonna stop me.

Luckily, I have a friend who stepped in to help me with the carpentry part, otherwise I doubt I'd be typing this right now... or, I might be, but with a few less fingers.

I took lots of pics along the way, and I'll share them if anyone wants to see.  I'm pretty dang happy with how it came out!

Whatcha think? Is it anywhere near as cool as I think it is?

17  J.C. in CHALLENGE 29 ENTRIES by nolazombie on: July 01, 2008 10:04:46 PM
JC bein' John Cougar, of course!  I grew up in Indiana, and adored him.  I'd cut out the shape with intentions of doing a virgin mary, and when I saw the challenge, this came to me.  The bottom is glued on plastic stones.. got the cardinals, since they're another Indiana thing.  Smiley

18  Eyeball! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by nolazombie on: June 03, 2008 04:04:14 PM
My eyeball-

For scale-

Detail-

Whatcha think?  I felt the need to make a giant eyeball one day, but then couldn't really think of anything to do with it... so I just hung it on the wall.  I might give it to my mom as a late mothers day present when I see her next week- just cuz she got so peeved last year when I bought her a transparent purple bowling ball that had a skull inside (she neither bowls nor is particularly fond of skulls).  Teehee.

19  Skully night/end tables in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by nolazombie on: May 27, 2008 07:54:45 PM
I made these with end tables in mind, but decided to put them in my bedroom for the time being...

Top-

Side-

In place-

Another-

They only have 3 legs because none of the home depots, lowes, etc in town had 8 of the same style legs.  They're stable enough though, and I don't think they'll get bumped too much.

Whatcha think?

20  Going batty.. coffee table in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by nolazombie on: April 10, 2008 08:39:17 PM
Finished this today.. it's just got a few more hours of drying...

Don't mind the mess- I just moved, and making a bat shaped table was way more important than unpacking.  Heh!

Let me know what ya think... it's the first piece I've completed, but I have a whole living room set in the works along the same lines.  It's going to be perfectly ridiculous!
