What's with the sudden influx in where the wild things are posts on the internet recently? I feel like I'm missing something here.... Not that I'm complaining, I LOVED that book as a kid xD
The movie came out right before Halloween. SO it's fresh on ppl's minds. I wanted to do this costume last year, but it was too close to Halloween to be able to pull it together right. So I vowed he would be Max this year. Then the movie came out and I knew I HAD to since I didn't want there to be a bunch of WalMart Max costumes out there when I did get to do it. I didn't know what level the movie was going to be merchandised. We made a point to make it after the book and not the movie.
Thank you! While we were getting ready to go trick or treat and I was taking those pics we had a group of little girls come up to him telling him how he looked just like Max. I think that made his night.
I knew that there was a good chance that there would be other Max costumes this year. Elvis (my son) wanted to be Max almost as much as I wanted him to be Max this year. If any kid is like Max, it's Elvis. We tried to make it as close to the book as possible. That scepter is as accurate as can be. He had gloves but he didn't want to wear them and we recently had alot of rain, so I didn't make spats over the shoes like I wanted. He got so many compliments. I hope you like it and vote for us!
We (my husband and I) made everything from scratch. Well, not the Converse shoes.
ETA: Here's another pic of him without the crown on so you can see the ears better. Daddy was dressed as a wild thing himself but it wasn't all together yet in this pic.
I was making a removable pillow case with welting around the edges so I can wash it. I realized that I had taken all that care in pre washing and drying the fabric , but I didn't do anything with the cotton cording I used to make my own piping. Are you suppose to pre wash that too? Will it shrink inside the piping and ruin my pillowcase when I wash it?
I really like the look of the hand you made. I was looking at the pics before I read it and was wondering, "Is that a monkey paw?". Yeah, taxidermy creeps me out. When I drive back to my hometown for holidays there's a taxidermy "hut" on a hill that's been there for decades. It's a creepy shack on a hill surrounded by a forest of dark trees. That's how I know I'm home, when I see the hut.
