41  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Purple 'spike' necklace and earrings on: January 29, 2014 05:16:50 PM
Having made two sets of jewellery for my Cousin's birthday present I decided I ought to make myself a pair to wear to her party! It is fancy dress and I will be wearing long gloves (I am going as purple from head to toe, including a wig- and possibly facepaint! Purple is her fave colour - and mine, and the theme is something which reminds you of her)

The necklace is a simple strung necklace - but I think it is effective! The circles between the 'spikes' (I'm sure they have a proper name?!) are little amethysyts received in the recent bead soup swap - and the spikes are transparent purple/bluey glass

the earrings:

hope you like them Smiley

42  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Amethyst red glass and silver jewellery set on: January 29, 2014 05:10:42 PM
This is the second jewellery set I made for my Cousin for her 30th birthday present - I received the red glass and the purple delicas from my partner in the bead soup swap - thank you Smiley

The necklace, I am slightly unsure about this - but hope she will like it regardless:

The peyote bracelet - my partner in the bead soup swap asked if I had ever tried to peyote with delicas, I hadn't - she sent me lots of them to play with - and I used some of the purple for this as well as some red and silver I had ordered to play with after she suggested them Smiley

the earrings - they don't look much when they are flat - but the only photo I got of them hanging was out of focus - so am uploading both of them and you can hopefully get an idea Smiley

(I really need to improve my loop making!)

finally here is everything together:
43  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Amethyst and Garnet jewellery set on: January 29, 2014 05:03:11 PM
I started getting into jewellery making 'properly' (ie not just strung acrylic beads) in November 2013 - and am really loving it - and still learning new techniques! This is a set of jewellery I made for my Cousins  30th Birthday present on Friday - purple is her favourite colour hence the amethyst - and Garnet is Januarys birthstone.

This is the whole set, consisting of cuff, necklace and earrings.

My partner in the recent bead soup swap sent me the amethysts - thank you Smiley She also made me a similar cuff from lots of different purple beads - the cuff in that set was inspired by the one she sent me.
My inspiration:

My creation:

The necklace is the first time I have used memory wire - so not brilliant, but I am pleased with it regardless:

The heart is amethyst - and was rescued from a necklace I found in a charity shop - be proud of me P_E_S_T Wink

the earrings are really really simple and tbh I wouldnt consider them a 'craft' but they are here for completions sake:

I always stress re: giving handmade things as presents - so I REALLY hope she likes them! I have made her another set which I will upload now Smiley

44  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / couple of questions re: swap angels on: January 25, 2014 04:01:16 PM
Hi  I'm sorry if these have been asked before but in the run up to organising a swap for the first time I have been reading all the info posts and have a couple of questions.

Firstly if somebody needs an angel but after posting a request nobody volunteers what happens?  (Though knowing how awesome craftsters are i'm sure it does not happen often or at all) also how long do you leave the request up for?

Secondl (or thirdly if you count the above as two ...sorry!) If someone paid to be a FOC last month) and then decided to angel for a swap (not to redeem a negative (again Craftsters = awesome!) Would the FOC status overlap their paid subscription and run out in 12 months or would they have the remainder of the paid subscription and then the earnt one so they are FOC for the next 23 months?

Hope this makes sense i am in hospital and drugged up on strong painkillers!
45  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Colours: Craft the rainbow. on: January 17, 2014 01:12:13 PM
I am sitting here browsing both the box of sunshine and the colour box threads, whilst eating a packet of Skittles and got to thinking.

A box of Sunshine during this miserable weather is fabulous (I live in England and therefore need as much sunshine as I can get) a box full of purple is amazing....but how awesome would it be to receive a boxed rainbow?

I have checked with both LimeRiot and lindyv to ensure I am not treading on toes and been given the go ahead.

As I see it the idea would be that we send 8 items, 7 of which will represent the 7 colours of the rainbow separately (ie one red, one orange, one yellow etc) and the 8th would represent all 7 colours. I thought we could craft a minimum of 4 items, one medium and three smalls and the rest can be shop bought or crafted if you want to craft them. I am however open for suggestions.

I thought it could run through March so it does not clash with either of the current colour swaps.

I am happy to organise though it will be my first time so would be more than happy to have a co organiser =)
46  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Christmas Jewelery on: January 10, 2014 12:32:40 PM
As my mums main Christmas present this year I handmade her some christmas jewelery (I bought / made her lots of 'little bits' for Christmas)

I came up with the design for the peyote pattern - I have only been doing peyote since the beginning of December - so it was not an easy task - I think I made about 6 earrings before I got the pattern how I wanted it - but am pleased I did!

47  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Cushions on: January 10, 2014 12:28:38 PM
For my mum, my mother in law, my grandma, my grandma in law and one of my aunts I made Cushions as part of their Christmas present. Unfortunately I only have photos of my mums and my aunts as I forgot to get photos of the others!

My mums partner is a farmer and has fields of cows - my mum loves them so much she collects anything "cow" and I always try to give her something with cows for presents - so much so that last year I bought her a cow piggy bank...identical to one I had bought a few years ago - oops! This Christmas I bought her hugging cow salt and pepper pots - and made her a cow cushion - at least I was sure I hadn't already given her one of those!

and the back

and my aunt used to keep chickens (unbeknownst to me she moved them on at the beginning of December - but still likes 'chicken' things) so for her a chicken cushion:

and the back

I know they are fairly simple - but as I have only been sewing since Octoberish I was really pleased with how well they came out!

48  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Chrismas Stocking on: January 10, 2014 12:20:58 PM
Sorry this is so late!

Since October this year I've been making friends with my sewing machine - for my husbands stocking I decided to hand make him one rather than spending money on shop bought ones. I had very little time to do this - I think I knocked it up in about an hour - I made the pattern myself - and it is lined with interfacing. It is more square than I had wanted. I have more material to make him a better one for Christmas 2014 - but thought I would share this one anyway.

49  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / My first soaps / candles on: January 10, 2014 12:16:14 PM
So - for a few years now I have been wanting to get into soap / candle / toiletry making. I dabbled a couple of years ago with bath bombs and bath creamers but then stopped again - but always wanted to get further into it. Early December I took a trip to our local Hobbycraft (I say local - its about 40 minutes away!) and they had both candle making kits and soap making kits on offer - so I bought one of each. A few days later I bought some essential oils and scoured our cupboards for things I could put in - then I got busy!

Although I am only playing with melt and pour for now - I hope one day to get into the CP / HP side of things.

With my kits and extras I made soap and candle sets for all my aunts!

I made a Christmas soap - into which I put crushed and a couple of whole cloves, cinnamon essential oil and some orange essential oil - they look a bit like crumpets!!

The candles had exactly the same scent

and lastly I made lavender soap - I put in a LOT of dried lavender as I wanted it to work as an exfoliater - but with hind sight I think I put a bit TOO much in! (although as a complete lavender lover I'm not sure there really is such a thing as too much lavender)

After making all of those I had none of my kit stuff left - so had a good read  online over Christmas - and have treated myself to lots of soap / candle making equipment with the plan of getting into it 'seriously'

50  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / morsbag swap on: January 05, 2014 04:00:12 PM
Until 20 minutes ago I had no idea what a morsbag was. Basically it is a simply sewn cotton bag to be used instead of a plastic carrier bag. More than that though it is about passing the knowledge on, and we are encouraged to pass the bags on to people. A morsbag has to have a label which are purchased from the site.

My idea for a swap is we all craft 5 identical bags (not based on partners likes, so can be presewn) then we send each of our bags to 4 partners and the last 1 we give away randomly to someone living locally to us.
So would all end up with 4 morsbags and some good Karma =)
