971  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Sweat Shoppe Swap Round 32 Gallery on: September 24, 2013 05:21:32 AM
Thanks for the clarification re: the leaf wash cloth =) how confusing to have different words for the same things! I am in the make a purse and fill it swap and that is confusing enough - to us a purse is called a bag, and a purse is actually a wallet, a wallet in turn is a males 'purse' which just has card slots and a big pocket for notes, no where for coins etc!

Eta: meant to say, there are some amazing things in this gallery! The leather cuffs are exquisite and the bird on the pouch is so cute!

I am in love with the glass pendant saying believe and the gorgeous mermaids and I can't wait to receive my cork necklace =)

Thanks so much for sharing that Wingsofclay will most definitely give it a go!

Trekky cos I was in such a hurry to get to the post office I didn't get time to take pictures, would you mind if I pinched yours for posting here and on Facebook?

I meant to say before how awesome the photos actually were - thank you for taking such flattering ones!!!

Thanks Tacky, that's as I thought but still good to have it confirmed. I was trying to figure out if "tie a ribbon on it" meant altering it or dressing it up to look like a gift! Hey it's 2:20am here and I am not well!
974  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Re: Partners Have Feelings on: September 23, 2013 06:07:25 PM
My two penneth worth is that everyone should consider their partners feelings, whether they are sending or receiving.

I am not great at many crafts, and often wonder if I should stop participating as I don't always match the quality of people sending to me. However I know that every single thing I make has not only taken me a long time (I often do and redo things) but is sent with love and to the very best of my ability. I figure that if people want perfection they should go find something at the mall (or as us English say, on the high street). Because I know I am not great at things, I tend to spoil my partner to make up for the fact it is not great. (I do however only send things that are fit for purpose, and even if they don't look amazing they are useable.) I'd love to say I would not consider sending anything that is not finished, but actually in my last swap I did! (I sent a stuffed toy for my partners guinea pigs not knowing what eyes they would be allowed, so I sent a kit in a plastic pot with safety eyes, buttons, black thread and even a needle, so she could use what she was happy with. I also sent a tote with a picture transferred onto it. I had done about 3 steps already and put it in the airing cupboard to dry overnight. When I was doing last minute touches to things before I sent, I realised that to finish it off it needed another layer of paste and then to be left overnight. As all you had to do was put a layer of paste on the picture I sent my partner a well wrapped bag and the paste and instructions, and was hoping there was enough paste there for her to do a picture on something else! So it was kind of an added bonus!). However with all that said I also don't mind if crafts I receive are not perfect/great as long as it is evident that the person has done their best.

I also really HATE seeing a post saying "I received here are the pictures"without even a thank you. I don't care how busy you are, if you have time to do the swap and then post photos you can find ten seconds to type "thank you I really appreciate it" or such like. You don't have to gush, but manners are free!

To sum up, yes we need to take our partners feelings into account, but it works both ways.

As an aside, talking about not buying and decorating things-does this always apply? ie in the swap I mentioned up there I bought a wooden box from a craft shop. I painted it green, added stickers saying "treats" then painted over them so it made the letters 3D and made and painted a guinea pig. I then supeeglued it to the painted lid and varnished it all. Does that count as crafted or should I have sent it as an extra?

Also I have a plan to buy something for another swap, but to cover it in fabric with possibly a cross stitch. What would that count as?

The trouble with swaps are there is so much grey between the black and white!

Really glad you liked your package Trekky - I meant to say the Chimp paper was as a tribute to your amazing zoo day!!! Yey glad the Guinea pigs fit in the cosy - and hopefully tunnel too - I was wondering if they were too small (or even too big!)

Am really glad you like the earrings - and even better you're wearing some to a wedding!

I'm gutted about how the Capybara's came out on the bag - it was the first time I'd used the paste and I forgot about the green of the bag effecting it! In fact - everything to do with the bag was first time - first time using freezer paper for the name, first time dying fabric, first time sewing something so big on the machine, first time using interfacing! Which I now wish i'd used for the GP tube / cosy - might have looked better than the foam!

Am loving the crochet ferret and it's bed (will look into doing something similar for my girlies!) also the necklace is really pretty!

Love the whole package from Gerbilgal  - especially the knitted tube and the name plaques! Mind you - having had the pleasure to be Gerbilgals partner in the first round I knew she would send an awesome package!

Gerbilgal - can we have another please?! Thanks very much for organising this one Smiley

These are really cool! Thanks for being sensible enough not to share making of cane too!

Hi guys I know this is a weird question but am I allowed to join in these swaps. I am not a Mexican/witch/pagan as I am unable to believe in a higher entity. However as a teenager I looked into it a lot and was wiccan for a while. I still very much believe in some aspects of it and I love all the symbols connected to it, and I am a massive nature fan. I still try to live by the Wiccan creed "An ye harm none do what ye will" and am a believer in the three times rule (although when I think about it I don't know why it works, I just know it does!)

I am also fascinated by further supernatural things, and love Take a Break Fate and Fortune. I just don't think too deeply about why I believe in things like that!

I really do not intend to offend anyone in this thread, so if it comes across as offensive please feel free to delete!

OK - just to let you know I'm going to be late sending for this swap. I NEED at least a month to recover from the shock of having spent 60+ on fabric and other bits for the swap - hoping I'll have lots left to start a stash with - but needed to make sure I had enough that if I go wrong (as am a beginner sewer still learning) I can do it again, and again, and again, preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', 'anddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd.........................')

Here is my beautiful leaf wash cloth - which is going to be renamed a 'flannel' - wool is what comes from sheep, which is what I thought this was - but I may be wrong! Still love it whatever it is made from Smiley

I use them in the bath and in the kitchen...I know I include washcloths when I make up spa kits for gifts...people seem to love handmade cloths to scrub with.  You can also use them as mini mug rugs or trivets for hot things...they are handy!!!

btw--what a lovely necklace the purple geos make!

Thanks hon - I didnt know whether soapy water would do anything to the wool - or whether the wool would be too itchy for the body when wet. Although having typed that out I have just realised that if I was using it to clean dishes it would still be going in soapy water - d'uh!!!!

ETA: I also meant to say thank you for your last reply - about how we have each others backs here - it meant a lot!!!
