1  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / How do I tie everything together - products, services, website, blog, portfolio? on: January 06, 2009 03:33:07 AM
I'm about to start my own full-time business doing what I truly love for a living but there are a few things I haven't decided on yet.

My business consists of two parts: working as a writer and language consultant (proofreader, translator) and selling things I make / design such as art, prints, notebooks and jewellery.

My blog is at www.afiori.blogspot.com and I also own the domain afiori.com which currently links directly to my blog. I'm planning to open an Etsy store shortly but I would also like to have a portfolio of some kind and a page about the services I offer. Also, I need to write in at least two languages - English and Swedish.

Do you have any advice on how to structure a website? Is it too weird to combine everything - although it's me and what I do - into one site? Do I even need a website or can I squeeze more things into my blog?
A website would have to be something like this: main page, blog, shop, about me, writings, portfolio and something about my work as an editor, language consultant etc. Any input would be great.
2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Some birds sing alone on: September 16, 2008 03:42:13 PM
some birds sing alone....
and I think they like it that way.
Nobody's there to complain
or say you're not singing good enough,
or you're singing too loud,
only sometimes
they want to sing with somebody else.

3  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Two books on: September 15, 2008 01:51:27 AM
This is me stepping out of the polymer closet
(or something like that), so, hello!

I made these books a few years ago; the one on the left is the first book I ever made!

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / I made myself a "me" book! (picture heavy) on: September 13, 2008 01:22:00 PM
After having seen lots of boyfriend books on jr_nal I decided to make one for myself. Only mine is a "me" book. (Not that I'm in love with myself.)

Okay, why are the pics so small? I'm using Craftster Photo Hosting.
Here's the link to my Flickr photo set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/14348107@N02/sets/72157607267968182/

and here is my jr_nal post with LARGE images: http://community.livejournal.com/jr__nal/4213398.html

all images, text etc are (c) me (except the fairy paper on the cover).

Please come visit me at www.afiori.com Smiley

Because sometimes it's hard to communicate what you want

Jellyfish, they sparkle

Hey, would you like to come to my -cough- blog? Link below. (Not selling anything; it's writing, discussion, photography.)

6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / blog virgin... discussion about creativity on: September 05, 2008 03:59:43 PM
I've just started a blog where I'm posting about creativity & living a creative life.

I have LOTS of plans for my blog and my soon-to-be creative business (don't worry, I'm not selling anything on the blog.)

It would be really cool if you wanted to come visit me and maybe give your input on today's topic.... Smiley Kiss
7  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / help with html --- ETA - problem solved! on: September 05, 2008 08:37:06 AM
I've started a blog at blogspot.com, using one of their templates.

Trouble is, I want the left sidebar to be wider so that the text is more towards the center of the screen and not pushed to the left.

I looked at the html and managed to make the posts wider, but the space to the left remains the same. This is probably very easy to fix if you know html; I'm trying here but I can't seem to adjust that specific thing. PLEASE reply or send me a PM if you can help!! I really want my blog to look nice from the beginning. Thanks in advance  Kiss
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Handbound album with photos and beach find on: July 12, 2008 11:29:58 AM
Two weeks ago I was suddenly whisked off to France and got to stay in an amazing apartment by the ocean. I took lots of photos of shells and scenery, and today I made a beach-inspired photo album.

Materials used: structured paper, thread, a bit of glue in the spine, thick scrapbooking paper. I attached the photos with double-sided tape. The shell on the cover had a natural hole in it, so I just strung it on waxed cotton thread. The fleur-de-lis is a brad.

I improvised the stitching on the cover. The pages were bound using the coptic stitch.

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / help - what do you call this game in English? on: April 16, 2008 01:03:52 AM
Is there a name for this game? You get a list of things to find, and each thing gives you a certain amount of points. For instance: carrot 10 points, Barbie doll 30 points. It's not exactly a treasure hunt. Help?
10  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Acrylics on paper + one watercolor question on: February 26, 2008 09:17:51 AM
Is it safe to use acrylics on watercolour paper? If I were to sell a painting, in particular, I'd want to know nothing bad would happen in the long run... I don't like painting on canvas.

How can I paint only in the centre of a large sheet of watercolour paper? I want the image to be square and have lots of white surrounding it, and I'm afraid the paper will buckle.

(I see the exact opposite question has also been posted here! Watercolours on canvas...)
