3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Tutorial--How To Make Braided Headband (Woven Headband) Instructions on: June 19, 2009 02:09:11 PM
Surfing online, I found these instructions: How To Braid 5 Stand Bread,http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video/how-to-braid-a-5-strand-bread-177470/

I tried this technique using ribbon but it didn't turned out pretty so I changed "side strand over middle stands" to "side strand over then under middle stands". Here is what I got. Just following the step by step instruction below to make one yourself.

What you need: 5 x 24" long 3/8" ribbon, D-ring, fabric-tac, glue gun, braided headband base (or you can wrap 1" plastic headband with 3/8" ribbon) sissors.

1. Secure 5 strands of ribbon on a D-ring. Then hang/tie D-ring somewhere so both of your hands are free to braid/weave. I'll name these 5 strands from left to right: SUPER DOTS, LOLLIPOP, SOLID, SWISS DOTS and STRIPES. The basic technique is to braid side strands OVER, then UNDER. When braiding, the printed ribbon is always face up.

2. Bring STRIPES over SWISS DOTS.

3. Then weave STRIPES under SOLID.

4. Left side, bring SUPER DOTS over LOLLIPOP. It's OK if it doesn't look balanced because we'll cut the beginning part off later.

5. Weave SUPER DOTS under STRIPES

6. Again on right side, bring SWISS over SOLID.

7. Weave SWISS under SUPER DOTS

8. Left side, bring LOLLIPOP over STRIPES

9. Then LOLLIPOP under SWISS DOTS.

10. On right side, braid SOLID over SUPER DOTS, then under LOLLOPOP.

11. On left, braid STRIPE over SWISS DOTS, then under SOLID.

12. Continue until the braided stripe is about 17" long.

13. Here is the closer look on one of the ends. Next we need to cut the extra ribbon.

14. Cut SWISS DOTS, then use fabric-tac to glue SWISS DOTS and LOLLIPOP together.

15. Cut LOLLIPOP, then use fabric-tac to glue LOLLIPOP and SOLID together.

16. Cut SUPER DOTS then glue SOLID and SUPER DOTS together.

17. Cut STRIPES and glue LOLLIPOP and STRIPES together

18. Cut SOLID and glue LOLLIPOP and SOLID together. Seal the ribbon ends.

19. Cover the braided headband base with this braided ribbon stripe. Then repeat step 14-18 to trim the extra length and finish the other end.

20. Use fabric-tac or glue gun to glue the end of braided stripe on headband base as shown.

21. Glue all the way to the other end.

22. Done.

It's really fun to pick the prettiest colors and make them combo. We have a photo album for headbands: Photo Gallery--Headbands . I just added mine and would love it if you'd all add your design to it too.

4  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Tutorial--How To Make A Watermelon Basket Fruit Salad on: September 11, 2008 11:06:12 AM
Great for parties, school picnics etc. Simple enough to give it a try.

Thing's you'll need: A watermelon, a thin bladed knife, a melon baller, an icecream scoop, a marker, other fruits you like.

Here is the step by step instructions:

1. Mark the top of the melon as shown

2. With a long, thin bladed knife, cut out the top of the watermelon, leave the center as handle. Cut the handle to wave shape.

3. Use the melon baller to scoop the flesh out. Put about half melon balls in a big bow. Feed the other half to your kids who cannot wait.

4. Now you can use an icecream scoop to scrap the inside walls of the watermelon clean.

5. If you like, cut the handle so it waves a little bit more. Mix other melon balls or fruits with watermelon balls then put them into the basket.

Hi,

I'm the owner of the www.hipgirlclips.com/forums. 99% of the instructions are free to all registered members (most of them even free to non-registered guests). Here is the instruction index:

Please let me know if you get error that prevents you from viewing the instructions.

Thanks.

Babyangel, atmomma just helped me out tremendously.  She gave me these links to check out and they resemble the braided technique that they have on the hipgirlclip site.  I am going to try those immediately.  If I can master at least one, maybe I won't have to spend for the instructions.  Also, registration for that forum is free and they do have lots of tutes for the bows.  I think the headbands are the only ones you have to pay for Smiley.  Here are the links: http://www.theartfulcrafter.com/diamondback.html
http://www.hobbylobby.com/site3/pdfprojects/HL-208.pdf  Maybe they will help you too!

Yes, These are the free instruction links I posted on www.hipgirlclips.com/forums. They are easy to follow and I got the pretty headband on 1st try.

The paid instruction offers more patterns (woven one) and braid using 4 color ribbons(the braided one). If you only want to make a couple of headbands for your daughter, just follow the free instructions. If you want to sell the headband on eBay or on craft show, those instructions are the best.

Thanks.
