1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Help me find cotton yarn in Hamilton! on: January 17, 2009 07:43:37 AM
I am looking for a place somewhere in or around Hamilton, Ontario where I can find an assortment of worsted weight cotton.  I ordered some off the Net but the shipping cost as much as the product. Please help me!!!
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / The Cowl on: November 15, 2008 07:13:33 PM
I'm usually posting in the crochet section as that is my big thing but I decided to borrow my dear friend's hat loom and give it a try. I think loom stuff is considered knitting...isn't it? Sorry!!! Anyway, I was asked to make a baby photography prop cocoon and I used the large loom and it worked out great.  I got to thinking that the dimensions were perfect for a cowl.
I used a variegated vintage olefin  in oatmeal that I've been dying to use and I knitted a long tube to which I then attached a creamy-white mohair yarn.  I doubled up all the yarns.  I played around a little with pattern on the white side.  I made the second tube as long as the first and finished off the edge using a crochet hook.  I stuffed one tube into the other and, voila...a reversible cowl! I can't wait to wear it 'cause they're all the rage.  What do you think?

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / shrinking ratios? HELP!!! on: June 09, 2008 03:47:12 PM
Any ideas or resources for the shrinking ratios of turning a crocheted item into a felted item in the washing machine.  I got the technique down cold but how big EXACTLY do I need to crochet something if I need a 12 month old hat or whatever? Is there a list of shrinking ratios anywhere for making hats sizes newborn to adult? what about slippers? HELP!  Or is this all just trial and error?

5  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Under the Sea on: April 12, 2008 05:36:10 PM
I just finished my son's Under the Sea room.  It was all inspired by a piece of fabric I bought at a rummage sale, which I sewed into a duvet cover.  I painted 3 fish with big lip paintings with acrylic paints. I hung a net from the ceiling and threw in some shells and a shovel.  I applied big circular vinyl wall decals to look like bubbles. I hung a batik quilt that my mother made for my bedroom when I was little.  Finally, I crocheted 5 funky fishies, which hang from the ceiling.  What a fun room for a little one.  What do you think?

6  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / School of Amis Fish! on: April 12, 2008 05:27:28 PM
I usually make animal hats but someone on craftster suggested that I do Amis.  I decided to finish off my son's Under the Sea room with five hanging fish.  What do you think?

Reduce, REUSE, Recycle...
I cut apart an old scrunchie and used it on a hat. To think I almost threw this beaded treasure out!

9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Summer hat frenzy on: March 24, 2008 08:29:42 AM
I'm so used to making hats for winter.  It's time to start an inventory of light, summer hats.  I made this one out of delicate silk and viscose yarn.  The ribbon really adds something special. Tell me what you think!!!
