Brief Description: "family portraits" of myself and my boys for my art wall.  This project has been waiting and waiting for me to get up the courage to actually put paint onto canvas.  The canvas has been mocking me for maybe 6 months now, but I kept worrying about messing things up.  But now that they are done I love them.

Nothing better than detention to get a person motivated.

I am in the process of slowly creating an art wall along one long boring wall in my living room.  What is an art wall with no family portraits? Well what if you are a family of camera shy sillies? Some crafty goodness to the rescue...  I would paint "portraits" of my boys and myself for the wall.

I wisted the monster portrait here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=386522.0 by myloveasdeep when I saw it a long time ago, and knew it was the perfect idea for those portraits I needed.

So here they are ready for hanging on the wall...

Brief Description: Toothless is a Nightfury Dragon from the stories "How to Train Your Dragon"
He is definitely based on the movie version of Toothless.

This is my care of magical creatures submission for the HP Summer Session.

Meet Toothless

 (yes I know different book/movie)

When I decided to make a dragon for my care of magical creatures assignment.  There could only be one choice, even if it meant tiptoeing out of the HP universe.  One of our favorite dragons around here is definitely Toothless from "How to Train Your Dragon."



He is made using material from a pair of super soft pants I bought at our local Salvation army, at 25¢ Tuesday.     Using this tutorial from Katy-A on deviantart. 

With just a few changes:
My Toothless is scaled down a little. I needed to make sure I would have enough material and space is tight around here so we needed the smallest dragon that was reasonable.
Wing tip to wing tip, he is 18 inches. Nose to tail, he is 14 inches.
I also added pipe cleaner to the upper part of the wings so I could flex them and have them keep their shape.

Which I will make a prothetic for when I can get back to 25¢ Tuesday and find a suitable leathery fabric.

It is so hard to get really good pictures of all that black.

Time for me to join in on the fun, and step out of crazy lurkerdom.  It is so much fun watching all the action on this thread. This will be just what I need to participate more actively here.

First thing I had to do was get sorted properly. I have taken many different "which house would you be in" tests all over the web and gotten a variety of options, so I signed up to Pottermore and played till I was sorted (ok I kept playing after too   ). Add another Ravenclaw to the roster.

And for my first thing to add...

Those of you following along in the poppet along have seen Herman once before in his skivvies.



Herman is based on Ghilies wonderful poppet pattern, but I changed his proportions a bit to be, well gnome-like, wider all around with shorter arms and legs.

And now Herman all dressed...

I love all the amazing poppets everyone is making.  I wanted to share the poppet variation that I've been slowly working on.  While all of you have been perfecting the "booby poppet" I have been trying to tweak the pattern for a garden gnome type shape.

Meet Herman...

Hopefully I can get him outfitted soon so he can have his own thread.
Herman says, "there be some dem fine gels about and I'm not fond of prancin' round in me skivvies." (shh don't anyone tell him about the naked ones.)

Some people have seen her already in the poppet along, but I finally have enough posts to include a photo .  So my poppet girl can get a post all her own. 





She's my first poppet, first doll of any kind actually.  She's a bit sassy and a tad dangerous.  (I lost a needle in her head while trying to hide the thread used to sew down her hair. )  She still hasn't told me her name yet, so we're definitely open to suggestions.  She has told me that she needs some knee high socks and maryjanes to go with this skirt.
