3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Maleficent Rules! on: November 05, 2010 12:00:08 AM
So Maleficent is my favorite Villian of all time. Since I can remember. The funny thing is I thought she looked like and reminded me of my grandmother. The funniest thing is I loved her Smiley Anyways, here goes. The whole thing is 95% handmade

My fave pic of the night

Think the eerie lighting makes it!

my inspiration, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty

This is a full pic

the pic didn't come out great. My face was such a beautiful green and in this pic its awful. but from the above pic you can tell the colors. Did crazy purple eye makeup etc. The Dress was from a black "gown" i got from DAV for 1.99 then cut down the front to put the purple panel in. Then added a ruffle and train to bottom so i would have a trane. Then I cut down the sleeves and put purple down them.

My headdress and collar

For the headdress I made whats called a balacava. Then I hand stitched in a wig net, I cut out of an old halloween wig, so i could secure it to my head so the horns would stay in place. Then I made the horns and stuffed them. Then unfortunatley for my husband I made him wear it so I could pin the horns on perfect. Then i hand stitched them on. So hard. But worth it.
I made my collar from an old snow white costume I had that my mom used when I was 8 to make me a costume. I put card board in it so it would stay up! So worth it.

Then Here is my little demon Smiley

I just took cereal boxes and with double thickness cut everything out and glued it. Then i spray painted it all black. I secured it with a purple ribbon. So when she walked or wiggled her wings bounced. SO CUTE! Shes such a good model Smiley

Here is my staff

I found a curtain rod at Goodwillthat was already black. Then i got some wooden stars, 3 of them, and stacked them to add detail. Then i spray painted them black. I also got a yellow glow in the dark bouncy ball. then I glued it on top. Then I glued my crow on top. Because Maleficent always had her crow!

I even got a red ring just like hers. Of course I am glad I don't have to have a green face. So uncomfortable to wear the makeup Smiley I also found heels at DAV that were total witch heels. So pointy! Plus I am 5' 10" So with the horns and heels I was 6'7" WOW.I got some great looks and reactions passing out candy. I even had one trick or treater ask if I was a real witch Smiley

Hope you liked the costume.  I made this costume for under $25. and worked very hard on it and it was worth it!Thanks for bearing with me Smiley

5  COOKING / Dessert / What kind of cake do you make an Engineer? on: June 27, 2008 12:19:30 AM
A CALCULATOR CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband graduated from collage and I wanted to make a really fun cake! So how about a calculator. Well this being my first time working with fondant and stuff I wasn't able to get as much detail as I wanted etc. But I am very pleased with what I got. I put a second button on so he would know it wasn't a first grade calculator Smiley anyways here it is

here is another shot

the calculator was a light blue because I didn't think an all black one would be good? Smiley It was fun to make and I picked up a lot of tips on here from other fondant users and it inspired me to try it!!!! Glad I did.
thanks for looking Wink
6  UNITED STATES / Kansas / FAVE CRAFTING PLACES IN WICHITA? TELL ME YOURS on: March 10, 2008 02:07:47 AM
hey everyone- I would love to be able to talk to people from the wichita area about crafting places, events, like crafting fairs. ANYTHING, new stores etc. Or just to get in touch with people in your area Smiley I really wish there was a fun crafting club or something here. I know when I went to McPherson for something I saw they had a pottery place there with blank pieces, 150 to choose from and stuff you could paint and decorate there and they would fire it for you.!!! Is there one here?  Anyways

LET ME KNOW Smiley
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / have you ever seen flowers like this? on: March 08, 2008 04:08:01 AM
well if you have let me know what they are Smiley

anyways, I got amie rays doodle stitching for christmas and her designs in there inspired me to make my own garden. I haven't decided what to do with it just yet. Probably frame it in a painted oval embroidery hoop. Trying to decide what color to do so it won't take away from the flowers.

Hope you like.

I tried some close up shots but they didn't turn out as my digital camera is a dinosaur. Smiley any ways you can see it good enough. This was my first embroidery project and was so much fun! I am really addicted now.

8  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / MY hooDIe is in blOOm ( 5 IMG) on: March 06, 2008 04:08:11 PM
I have really gotten into emroidery. I love cherry blossoms and decided to embroider them onto the pocket edge of a hoodie i have. It took me a while to get the branch to lay right on the curve of the edge of the pocket. I was kinda sad because I couldn't get great pics, but they are good enough to get an idea. I love color so I decided to do mulit-colored blossoms because i love color although I know there is no such blossom around Wink. I am really happy with how it turned out. I decided to line the pockets with a green with hot pink polkadot fabric to hide the back of the stitches and keep them safe. Let me know what you think.

thanks

here is a close up of the blossoms.

here are a few shots  showing them side by side

here is one that shows the pocket lining peaking out ( this is the actuall color of the hoodie)  Tongue

this shows the whole hoodie to see it all together, but hard to see detail. SORRY

It needs something else on it?   i do love the pockets as they are but I am wanting to add maybe something on the actual hood part like right on the center just a little piece of cherry blossom or something . I also wanted to add a different string that goes through the hood. you know just to add some color elsewhere on the hoodie. Thanks for reading and let me know what you think. don't want to get it over done:)

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Desperately Need name of Purse mag HELP!!! on: October 07, 2007 12:15:30 AM
Don't know if I can post this here, But I thought what a better place than the forum for making purses! But if it needs to be in the misc forum I am sorry. But the other day i went to borders and saw this great magazine that just had purses very unique purses and it was pretty thick. It seemed just like a showcase of purses people made. i ended up getting an adorn mag! But the next week i went back just to get the mag, I had this feeling it wouldn't be there, you know that feeling, well it wasn't nor a few weeks after. I looked everywhere online and I couldn't find it. Frankly, I couldn't find a good source that gave info on or a list of crafting magazines. Anyways, I would be soooooooooo grateful if someone knows the name of it or has a good source to look up online that give the name of ALL of the craft mags out there. HELP. Thanks

10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Framed earrings! on: September 23, 2007 05:33:42 AM
I have um, Smiley a few dangling earrings and they are really hard to store. I got tired of untangling them and digging for them, plus they are so pretty. I saw this type of idea in a magazine but it was for something else. I thought it was so cool. I just found a frame at goodwill and painted it. Stapled screen from a window screen on it and voila! Earring dipslay. IT is like decoration in my bedroom! I have been using it for about 6 months now and it still looks and acts like new. I love it. Hope you all like it. Let me know what you think.

PS: I only joined one month ago and I wanted to post this because I thought it would be useful for people obsessed with earrings like me Wink
