11  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Candy Flavorings for Lip Balm? on: August 30, 2007 01:47:09 AM
Thanks so much! I'm hoping they work because right now I can't afford to buy essential oils that I might never use again.
Hopefully my order from MMS will come in before the weekend so I can experiment.
12  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: Insulating Lunch Bags? on: August 27, 2007 03:20:00 PM
I made my daughter an insulated lunch bag for the new school year.  I found a thermal batting at my local fabric store (Hancock's).  It is called Insul-Bright (by The Warm Company) and is designed specifically for keeping things hot/cold.  The cost was very inexpensive ($3.99/yd USD), and it's at least 45" wide, if not wider.  I found it easy to work with, and so far it's working great in her lunch bag.  I found it in the section where quilt batting is sold.  It's on a wide roll.

I hope you are successful finding it!

FYI - For the exterior of her bag I used a 100% cotton, and the interior is remnants of flannel-backed vinyl tablecloth fabric.  There has been no leakage to this point.

Thanks so much for this idea! I know we don't have it at the craft store I work at but I can try to look in the fabric stores in the area. I had no idea they made thermal batting.
13  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Book Launch Party on: August 27, 2007 03:17:44 PM
A class I was in last fall published a book of poems and short stories and because the book came in from the printers over the summer, we decided to postpone the book launch until now.
I'm in charge of invitations and general party planning. Because this is a publication that was funded in part by the university and also other organizations across the state, we would like this to be a semi-formal-ish launch party.
Does anyone have any ideas for invitations? I was thinking of using the scroll idea but I'm not sure if they would be right for a book launch party.
14  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Re: cute handbags made out of wrappers! <3 on: August 27, 2007 11:26:08 AM
Thanks for posting that tutorial! I now need to go and hijack all of the candy wrappers and chip bags from the people in my building and in all of my classes. I think I shall try this when I get home.
15  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Insulating Lunch Bags? on: August 26, 2007 09:12:42 PM
I wanted to make a lunch bag but I don't know how I would make it so that it insulates. I plan to put vinyl on the outside and the inside in case of spills, but what should I use between the outside panel and the inside panel so that it keeps everything cool? Someone told me to use batting and make it kind of quilt-like, but I was trying to find something less...messy?
Any ideas?
16  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Candy Flavorings for Lip Balm? on: August 26, 2007 07:35:13 PM
I want to start making lip balm, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on different things just in case I decide not to make them anymore (My mom said I'm famous for changing my mind and not sticking to one project...I think she's right.)
I ordered a base and some tubes off MMS yesterday but decided not to order the essential oils and stuff. When I was at work today I found these LorAnn Gourmet Flavoring oils. I know they're for candy, but would they work for lip balm? I have a bunch of different flavors at home that are left over from the lollipops I made a couple of months ago and wanted to use them.
17  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Re: lip balms i made tonite on: August 26, 2007 07:24:06 PM
I love them! I was at work today looking for different lip balm containers. LoL. One of my co-workers suggested getting those 7-day pill containers and filling each section with a different color and flavor of lip balm. I may try that.
18  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Re: Healthy Bento on: August 25, 2007 08:35:56 PM
It's strange because a friend of mine and I were just looking through a book she brought back from Japan with pictures of different bento lunches. They were completely adorable and we wanted to try to make them. Unfortunately, it'll take us forever to translate the Japanese.  Undecided
Anyway, after realizing that it's only the end of the first week of school and I already spend over $20 on lunch for four days (because I didn't eat  on the first day), I decided that I need to make my own lunch to take with me.
I'm hoping this thread will be active and full of ideas and tips.
19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Nylon Flowers (Tutorial Added! LOTS of pictures) on: August 25, 2007 12:53:02 PM

Where do you get the nylon in all the pretty colors?

I got the nylon from the craft store I work at. It's by a company called Memento Enterprise and part of their You Can Do collection. The wire is from the same collection. I'm not sure where it would be available outside of Hawaii. But you can get the same effect by dying white pantyhose with fabric dye.
20  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / Crayola Crayon Maker? on: August 25, 2007 03:25:26 AM
Has anyone tried the Crayola Crayon Maker? A friend of mine that I work with was giving everyone in the office little gifts to start the school year and mine was the crayon maker since I'm the only person who does crafts. (Although one of the guys wanted it because he just likes toys.)
I just wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with it. I don't have any crayons right now so I can't try it.
