21  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Grad Mix on: March 22, 2006 08:49:32 PM
I Believe I Can Fly, either the original version or one of the newer more upbeat covers (I prefer the cover done by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes).
Graduation by Vitamin C.
Here's to the Nights by Eve 6.

that's all I can come up with as of right now, but I'll keep thinking.

23  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: CREEPY real Valentine Cards from the 30's & 40's on: February 15, 2006 01:44:38 PM
I'm just scared.  When I saw this one I couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry because it was so creepy.
...
Then I kind of compromised and laughed until I cried.

That one was my FAVORITE!!! lol I was so disturbed by that picture.

Do you think you could call up my boyfriend and teach him your amazing ways? Because he just hasn't caught on yet and I've waited long enough.

That card is soo freaking awesome! I'd melt if a boy gave that to me.
25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / so there's this guy... on: February 03, 2006 11:18:48 PM
I have this friend that's been really great to me this past year and I really really want to get him something uber cool for Valentine's Day/Christmas (and no, I haven't gotten him a Christmas present yet. I couldn't find anything worthy enough).
So... let's see. He's seventeen, turning eighteen on March first. He's the nicest person I've ever met and I've never seen him get angry. He LOVES Dane Cook, but already has a bunch of CDs, movies, whatever. He wants to go into biomedical engineering. He's super super super smart. He's easily amused. He said he doesn't want a hat at all because he spikes his hair. I taught him how to knit and he thought it was sort of awkward at first (he's a lefty and I'm a righty) but he caught on quickly and tonight he mentioned that I never brought him something to knit again. So I was thinking maybe something like a knitting kit, but I'm not too sure. I want to get him something else too.
Thanks in advance for your help... I've been trying to think of something for this kid since way before Christmas and it just hasn't been working.

What about cookies? Or make him dinner... food = a great present for any guy. You could also make him a "reasons I love you" book... or even write them on slips of paper and stick them in a jar... You could make him felt monsters maybe? They're pretty quick to do and super cute.
27  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Re: Share Your Best Valentine's Mix-Tapes! on: February 01, 2006 10:00:43 PM
Last anniversary I made this mix for my boy-half:

Ataris ::: Song for a Mixtape
Beck ::: Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime
Ataris ::: Your Boyfriend Sucks
Blink 182 ::: Roller Coaster
Jimmy Eat World ::: For Me This Is Heaven
GooGoo Dolls ::: Iris
Ataris ::: Broken Promise Ring
Divinyls ::: I Touch Myself
Edwin McCain ::: I'll Be
The Postal Service ::: Such Great Heights
Rufio ::: One Slowdance
Aerosmith ::: Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
Ataris ::: I Won't Spend Another Night Alone
Matchbook Romance ::: Tiger Lily
Third Eye Blind ::: Wounded
Bowling For Soup ::: Belgium

I tried to include a mix of songs that had some sort of parallels to times in our relationship, songs that are super cheesey, songs that are kind of funny, and songs we like to sing together when we're driving around at night. And there's a lot of Ataris songs because they have a lot of songs that just clicked with what we've been through, from the beginning to present.

OH my gosh, if i could find Matrix themed paper I could make him such an awesome wallet.   I wonder if i could find something like that at AC Moore? (I guess i could also copy the DVD cover a few times)

You're probably better off copying the cover (or printing out images from the computer). I work at A.C. Moore and I know we don't really sell paper with movies on it (with the exception of Disney), although I'm not sure about other stores, just the ones around here.
Either way... you could maybe make him a little pillow and embroider your names or initials on it. Especially if there's times when you can't be around, he'll always have that to snuggle with and remember you by.
About the duct tape wallet: Generally, you can construct one by sticking duct tape to itself so that it isn't sticky anymore. Make sheets of tape like that and cut out pieces (one front, one back, maybe a little pocket or two on the inside for cards). Use a dollar bill and a credit card (or gift card or whatever) to judge the size of the pockets and cut out the pieces accordingly (make sure to leave a little allowance because it will get much bigger when there's stuff inside). Then you just take strips of duct tape and fold them sticky-side out and place them INSIDE the pockets/sides/etc. to assemble them. Once they're all secured on the inside, cover up any edges on the outside with more tape. 29  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Deeeeeeep v Argyle vest on: January 26, 2006 11:01:15 AM
Uhh. I love you.

I have been searching EVERYWHERE for a deep v-neck argyle vest and have yet to find anything.
I have also been knitting more than could be considered healthy.

Basically, you just made life better.  Wink Thanks soo much. I'll definately buy the pattern once you get it up.
30  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: I have this scarf.... on: January 25, 2006 10:28:23 AM
Send it off to somewhere colder and donate it to charity? It's freezing up here in New York and a lot of people could use a scarf or two.
