1  COOKING / Dessert / Bunting birthday cake! on: June 14, 2013 12:52:43 PM
TOmorrow is my dd's 6th bday party. I've been working hard on it for the last couple of weeks. I finally got to make the cake...my favourite part!
2  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / 18 pinwheel hair clips for my daughter's party guests on: June 12, 2013 04:59:09 PM
I like everything to be handmade for my kids' parties...party favours included. Here are 18 pinwheel hair clips for the guests of my daughter's 6th birthday. I think it will look cute in the girls' summer hair styles!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / side table upcycle! I am calling it the 'Apis Mellifera' with before and after on: May 19, 2013 07:31:32 AM
I found this old table for $10 at an antiquey-kind of store. I saw potential in it. I didn't quite know what I wanted to do with it until it dawned on me that it was the same shape as a honeycomb, and so it became the Apis Mellifera table (Latin for honeybee).

ETA: Since the question has been asked, I guess I should mention that it was all hand painted (including the art). From start (sanding) to finish (varnish) the whole table took around 10-12 hours Smiley

I hope you like it!

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Before and after table up cycle! on: May 16, 2013 05:28:22 PM
I found this awesome table with these fantastic lines and it was so wonderful and WOODEN! lol I'm so tired of all that press board!

Anyhow, I knew I wanted it, and I knew I wanted it aqua...but it took me a little bit to figure out what I wanted 'art wise'. Since I'm on a HUGE bird kick right now (and as you can tell from previous posts of mine I also love trees) I went with this theme!

Here's the 'after'

And the before Smiley

5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Men's XL concert t to women's ruffled cute t - with link to tute on: May 15, 2013 06:17:33 AM
My friend's birthday dinner is tonight and she's a huge Nickelback fan (don't judge lol). I wanted to make something special for her. I started perusing online tutorials for sewing projects and stumbled across the website freeneedle.com. Wow. TONS of tutorials and patterns!! Anyhow, I came across this tutorial on there http://tousledday.blogspot.com.es/2012/05/stvarno-super-majica-ruffled-one.html and I decided that I wanted to make one of these for her. I took a trip to the local Goodwill to find some cool graphic t's that I may use. I thought, 'Wouldn't it be awesome if I found a Nickelback concert t!'. Lo and behold, I found one right away (ask and you shall receive - I just needed a little creative visualization). I also grabbed a plain grey t for the contrasting ruffles. Both t's together cost $3. I took them home, washed them, and got to work. I followed the tutorial except for the raw edge around the top. This, I encased in fold-over elastic for a better fit and durability. T-shirt jersey stretches too much to leave raw for a neck line if you ask me.

So there you have it! Easy project. Custom designed t-shirt in under and hour for $3!

I hope you like it!

Here you can see the fold-over elastic working its magic!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Yet another upcycle for my wee one! on: May 10, 2013 03:29:49 PM
I made the skirt from an old adult tank top. I made the white sash from another tank top and I also made the robin applique and added a lace trim around the bottom. The brown t-shirt was just an old one of hers that I revamped with a bow tie Smiley
7  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / My dress and her t-shirt up cycled into a dress for her! on: May 10, 2013 05:10:30 AM
So I took an old dress of mine and a long sleeved t-shirt that she had outgrown and turned it into a cool little dress for her. She wanted an asymmetrical hem line on the skirt, so I did it, but I would do it differently next time. Oh well...all learning curves, right? And she loves it, so that's all that matters!
8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / An array of elastic bandanas - with link to tute on: May 08, 2013 04:12:04 PM
My sweet little ginger loves these bandanas so I indulged her Smiley The awesome thing about it is that due to these awesome $.50 grab bags of fabric ends at Fabricland, I picked up a ton of different fabrics for a headband extravaganza!

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A lined, pocketed, personaliz tote bag that reminds me I'm still the QUEEN!! lol on: April 11, 2013 05:28:59 AM
I've been feeling a little glum lately. I thought it might help if I made myself a prezzie. So I made a bag with an embroidered drawing of me with a crown lol. The bag is fully lined and has a zippered pocket Smiley

10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / AG/Journey Girl clothing on: April 06, 2013 04:32:41 PM
I made a whole bunch of clothes for my daughter's Journey Girl (Canadian Toys R US brand, I think) for Christmas. I forgot to post them until now! There were more but I can't find the pics! They were all Liberty Jane pattern. I had fun making them, and I'm pretty sure she had fun receiving them Smiley

The first t-shirt has my own artwork on it!
