2  Gross to great! Antique bench! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by FoxyBlue on: July 21, 2014 04:09:23 PM
For our whole 13 year relationship, my husband has had no interest in getting creative with me. I always did it alone. All of a sudden, he has gotten inspired and we are a crafty team and I couldn't be happier. It's so exciting for me to have a partner in crime and he's proud of the sense of accomplishment. It's a win-win!!

So anyhow, we've been hitting up garage sales looking for cool things to redo. We came across this very old, very yucky bench. The fabric was gross and falling apart, but I saw the possibilities. My husband didn't, but he went along with it. So, we went to the fabric store and chose this pretty geometric fabric and went to work! We are so happy with how it turned out. It has a whole new life.

Whenever I buy old things, I like to imagine who owned them before. I love that these pieces have history. It makes me happy Smiley

Here's the dreaded 'before':

Here's my hubby hard at work:

Here's the 'after':

And here's a pic of my Mischa taking ownership:

Hope you enjoyed!

5  The Sweet Shoppe - vanilla cherry fondant cake in Dessert by FoxyBlue on: June 20, 2014 07:12:11 PM
It's my wee girl's 7th birthday party tomorrow. I remember turning 7 so clearly and I felt like it was so different from 6. I felt like such a big girl! I wonder if it's the same thing for her or if 7 is just the same as 6?

Anyhow, I wanted to make her an extra special cake! This one is called 'The Sweet Shoppe' because I feel like it looks like a giant sundae! I saw many of these types of cakes on pinterest and I was inspired to make one of my own.

It is 6 layers of vanilla cherry cake and vanilla cherry buttercream frosting. It weighs 12-15 lbs and stands 18 inches tall. Can't wait till she sees it! I

hope she loves it!

6  Lace and spikes? in Dessert by FoxyBlue on: May 31, 2014 12:10:39 PM
I had a cake request recently for a lacy cake. Sounds fun, right? But this girl has an edge. So...a tier of spikes thrown into the mix made sense...

I also made 20 white cake pops Smiley

7  Release the KRAKEN!!!! Bathroom redo in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by FoxyBlue on: May 02, 2014 07:25:04 PM
I had hands down the WORST KIDS BATHROOM EVER. Mickey fricken mouse everywhere. I am NOT a Disney fan so this was very discouraging. I was once again faced with a TON of patching due to stupid trim that was EVERYWHERE. Yuck yuck yuck. Never mind the MM tile. Ew. I have someone coming in to fix that very soon, thank goodness!

Anyhow, I wanted something cool for the kids. I have two boys 14, and 11, and a 6 year old girl. It needed to bridge a big gap. I got inspired to paint a kraken coming out of the shower. That's where it all began. And then I found other cool things and went from there. You have to check out the switch plate I found on etsy, the cool shark head and towel hooks from Urban Barn. I had a lot of fun with this room and am sooo pleased with the transformation. After I took the pics, my husband came in and put in a new toilet and sink. Should have waited until those were in to do the afters, but...meh - you get the point!

(towel hook)

and the dreaded *BEFORE*!! (I'm so ashamed! But trust me...that is not my handiwork!)

8  My daughter's (long overdue) new bedroom! in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by FoxyBlue on: May 02, 2014 07:12:00 PM
My daughter's room (first pic) was extremely ugly. Oranges and yellows and shelves so high that you couldn't even see what was on them (what was the former owner thinking?). The room was just plain awful and I was very overwhelmed at the project as I knew there would be a LOT of patching to do. But, as I work at an interior decor store, I found some little pieces of wall art that inspired me and I got to work! As I was taking down all the shelving and mirrors and were pretty much nailed, screwed, and cemented to the bloody walls, I was complaining out loud.

I said in frustration, "Why in god's name did this man have to glue EVERYTHING to this wall!!??'

My sweet, innocent little soul of a 6 year old daughter replied, "Because he wanted to make his little girl happy just like my daddy likes to make me happy every day." Talk about melt my heart and make me view it all from a different perspective!!

Anyhow, I went about patching the walls and painting and redecorating and the final product makes me happy.

PS - mind the mess in the first one. I had started pulling everything out and throwing it everywhere before I realized that I hadn't taken a 'before' pic!

10  Tween fondant cake! in Dessert by FoxyBlue on: October 27, 2013 04:49:48 PM
This is for a little girl for her 9th birthday. Not sure 9 is typically considered a tween but this cake is definitely tweeny to me nevertheless. It's vanilla with vanilla buttercream.
