1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / The "I can't think of a good name" Dress on: June 03, 2008 08:45:58 PM
This dress started the way I start most of my projects. Someone else was wearing it, I wanted it, I'm broke.

I was bored at graduation (I know right?) I like to people watch, so naturally, I started scanning the audience. I noticed this one girl sitting in the back and I really liked what she was wearing. For the rest of the ceremony, I planned out how I would make a dress like hers.

Two days later, I have the dress hanging in my closet.

It's not exactly my best, but it gets the job done. I'm thinking about using ribbon for the bow at the top instead of the fabric, because I think it might be a little bulky. Nevertheless, here it is:

2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Costumes for West Side Story! on: January 24, 2008 06:19:37 PM
Hey all! My highschool has just started working for their production of West Side
Story and in addition to being onstage, I get to make/reconstruct the costumes! We have a rather large collection of 80's prom and day dresses, as well as a few other vintage dresses in our posession. Since we are on a very tight budget, we have to utilize the terribly tacky 80's dresses and reconstruct them to make them time period appropriate. Anyone have any tips or ideas about the styles or fashions of the time period? Thanks!

PS: If anyone has any photos from theater costumes they have done, POST! I need inspiration!
