1  crafty "art" - what is mine lacking? in More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions by catandcleo on: July 03, 2008 09:38:54 PM
Ok, i think this is the best place to post this, so please bare with me... My fiance and i wanted a really big art piece for our dining room, but we don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a custom piece.  We are really into music, and while I don't really consider myself an artist, i had this in my mind as something i really wanted to do.

It is a HUGELY massive canvas (5 ft x 3 ft) that i have painted in sort of a marbley kind of background.  I'm not sure how the colours will show on your monitors, but it is a dark peacock teal with splashes and splotches of black, olive green, dark brown, gold, and an iridescent pearly aqua colour.  I printed out a bunch of song lyrics in different fonts and 'antiqued' them and put them haphazardly on the canvas.

So... i like it ok, but i feel like it is missing something.  Do any of you have any suggestions?  (I am an amateur 'artist' at best - no training and no concept of art techniques - but i am willing to try anything given instruction!!)

Thanks so much!!!

2  another stencilled t-shirt... for the boy in Stenciling: Completed Projects by catandcleo on: September 11, 2007 09:48:12 AM
Ok, so this is my second try at stencilling.  I like this one much better than the one i made for me (no attempted free-handed drawing on this one!)

What do you think?  I hope he likes it...

(why oh why can't i make actual images instead of links?HuhHuh)

3  not too bad for a first try... in Stenciling: Completed Projects by catandcleo on: September 09, 2007 07:18:28 PM
Well, this is my first stencil EVER.  I am mostly happy with it.  The stencil itself turned out great - no bleeding or anything!  Then i free-handed the bow.  I should know by this point in my life that i just don't have steady enough hands to 'freehand' ANYTHING!  lol
Oh well... here it is - what do you think?
Because it isn't 100% how i wanted it to be, i will probably wear it as gym gear, but i still am feeling pretty pleased with myself!   Grin
