61  Re: Summer Sockathon Sockalong 2011 (June 7-Sept. 22) ~Yarn Prizes!~ in Knitalongs by Annchen on: September 03, 2011 11:32:46 AM
Pair number two is done! Sally's socks Smiley

Started: June 16, 2011
Completed: June 21, 2011
Pattern: I just made it up... It's 44 stitches for the leg, k2p2 rib that continues on the top of the foot. Heel flap knitted over half the stitches and a plain heel. The toe and heel are knitted in contrasting colours.
Yarn: DROPS Fabel in two colourways I had leftovers from. These doesn't take much yarn...
Comments: They aren't identical... I think one is shorter, but they're probably a bit to long for my niece. But it doesn't matter since she will grow eventually.
Ravelry link: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Annchen/sally-socks

I'm still knitting my first heelix. I might finish the first sock before the 22th, but I don't think I'll manage to make a pair. If I had knitted the leg it would be long enough already, but I think I'm making the foot. Not that it matters if I suddenly change my mind. Heh... Very adaptable socks since the heel is knitted first!

62  Tentacle ring holder in Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects by Annchen on: August 19, 2011 02:48:32 PM
I was working on some magnets for a swap, and while I was getting my hands dirty I decided to make some fun things for me too. I used paper clay, and I know from before that it's hard to store it properly for longer periods of time. So better use up as much as possible!

I was just fooling around with bits of clay when I came up with this idea. Some of our friends got a ring holder as a wedding gift, and it's a neat idea. Just a bit boring... And in some cases ugly... I remember owning a ring holder in the form of a cat where you were supposed to hang the rings on its tail. Hideous! I decided that since everything gets better with tentacles I should try to make a tentacle ring holder. It makes it more interesting even without the rings on it too.

And here's how we use it. There's a dish for other bits and bobs on the shelf below, so hopefully I won't have to deal with watches, rings and spare change all over the place. Oh, who am I kidding... But at least hubby uses the ring holder!

I used some old water paint to make it pretty, but I was too lazy to find a varnish that worked so it remains untreated for now. If it doesn't wear well I'll have to do something about it.

I've got my first official finished pair! (and a start of a second one)

Started: June 17 2011
Completed: August 8 2011

Pattern: D-Man (free on ravelry)
Yarn: Qualitas Sock, a bit less than 2 skeins used.
Mods: I made a reinforced heel since I nearly always do that. Every other stitch is slipped on the "knit" side of the heel flap to make it thicker and sturdier and I just knit the flap to the length it needs to be and pick upp stitches accordingly. The toe is also modified since I don't like round toes. I tried to let the pattern continue on the toe, but it's hard to see.

My Ravelry project page

The small sock in the first picture is for my 1 year old niece. It's going to be a bit too long for her foot, but I figure she'll grow into it sooner or later. I used some sock yarn leftovers (Fabel from Garnstudio/DROPS) in two colourways and just had some fun with it. Next sock will be red/rust/orange with the teal/orange as toe and heel instead. She's one year old, she can pull that look off Wink

65  Re: Fridge Magnet Swap Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Annchen on: July 08, 2011 03:00:58 PM
Great magnets! The diversity is great. From glass trees to fabric flowers and spoons... I love the little frankenheart.

Here's my loot from Jaywesome:

She went with my rainbow theme. I don't think I wrote that I like altered pussle pieces, but I do, so the pussle piece is my favourite Smiley

She also sent an extra. It's a necklace but it was easier to photograph like this. I think it will work as either necklace or bracelet.

Here they are on my fridge! It's cropped a bit awkwardly but I realised after snapping the photo that there were pieces of paper with phone numbers on them...

Jaywesome is on the hunt for her camera charger so until she finds it I'll post the picture I took before sending:

I picked two themes, Studio Ghibli and cats. The bird is not attached to the rat, they are two individual magnets (but it was fun to pose it with it's legs like that to make it look like it was carrying the rat). Rat + bird are from Spirited away and the fire demon is from Howl's Moving Castle. They are all made from paper clay and painted with watercolour to give an anime like look.

Everyone is fond of owls! (So very sorry about that link. It's a hilarious and very, very contagious song.)

And in other news... I returned victorious from my fight with the craftster picture hosting system, so I can finally show some pictures of the package I got from susanab! We decided to swap two 1-hour things.

She spoiled me Smiley There's a crochet magazine, a notebook and some stickers in there together with the crafted things.

This is my favourite =) My very own mini owl. And it's got feathery fluff on it's head. So cute!

I also got a pouch for my cards and things. Already in use... And it was filled with buttons and a magnet. The pharmacist one is my favourite, but I'm wearing the teal one to work.
Thank you again susanab!

Very nice packages everyone! Both sets of parrots are very cute. I haven't commented very much but I have been admiring each and every package in the gallery. I love the diversity of items that can be made in an hour. We're a creative bunch, aren't we?

Details of swap:
Are you always busy and so haven't swapped for a while? Too busy with summer-y things to take on a larger swap? Do you like crafting quick things? Do you need a low stress swap right now? If yes, this swap is for you! This swap is for one item/set of items. You can send anything you think your partner would like. The only condition is that you take the maximum of an hour to craft your goodies.

This is meant to be a low stress swap so please avoid sending extras. However, if you both agree to craft more than the minimum I can't really stop you...

As in the Craftster swap rules, you need a DC number if shipping within the US, and proof of posting if sending internationally. If your package is too small to qualify for DC#, please keep your proof of posting, but beware that if the package doesn't arrive you will be required to resend!

Communication
This is the minimum amount of communication I want from you:
PM the organiser AND your partner when sending and receiving (don't forget DC#), post in the thread at least once to make sure you get any messages from me posted there. Let me know you're alive and crafting halfway through (via PM or in thread). Also: if you don't hear from your partner at all and you're done with your package, hold off on sending and please PM me.

I reserve the right to refuse swappers with a history of bad communication or dodgy feedback. (But I hope I won't need to!)

Some ideas for quick crafts:
A notecard set
Simple throw pillow
A necklace
Elaborate earrings
Hand carved stamp
A stationary set
A pin cushion
A knitted or crocheted dish scrubbie
A simple stuffie or amigurumi
A special bookmark
Coaster or coaster set

69  Re: Geocaching / Letterboxing Gallery! (Send Outs 5-16-11) in The Swap Gallery by Annchen on: May 29, 2011 02:33:10 PM
I got a great package from Anofeles a while back, and now I've finally got the camera, the computer and myself sorted enough to post them. I opened it during a break at work since I needed a pick me up and it worked because I smiled the rest of that day =)

First, a letterbox-journal for me. I have yet to find any letterboxes, and there are not a lot of them in Sweden, but now I'll have a great journal to collect the stamps in when I do start to find them. I'm planning a letterbox or two too... If I start to place them others might catch on!

And to go with it:

Best. stamp. ever! Might not be appropriate for every letterbox out there, but I LOVE it! The ink pad is really nice too.

Here are some swag and small items. I think I'll have to keep a moustache for myself because they make me giggle so much. The button is from her library and the turtle from the local zoo.

Wohoo! Cache finding shirt Smiley Not a great picture, but that was the best I could do on my own. I wore it when I went cache hunting today and I found the one I was after so it works Wink It fit me really well too and it's nice and long, just the way I like it.

And we also decided to swap a bunch of local candy... Whoa! I got a lot of it. I really like the hard candies. Tasty and pretty. There's a letter hidden among all the treats too. It's so nice to see the handwriting from different swappers. Makes it even more personal...

This was a great swap and I'm so happy we got paired up. Good work littlehajerika! Thank you for the swap =)

70  Re: March 2011 Birthday Swap Discussion & Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Annchen on: May 02, 2011 03:17:29 AM
Finally! After some tax return fun that I finally finished yesterday and some more "fun" while trying to upload these on a very shaky connection. Here's the pictures of the lovely package I received from aheartofglass!

Everything together. I feel so spoiled Smiley

She made me these beautiful stitch markers and a lucky penny. I haven't tried them out yet, but they're so pretty and I can't wait to find an excuse to use them.

Here's the one of a kind upcycled item. A spoon rest! I love the little owl, and I really needed one of these. Dirty spoons and kitchen utensils mysteriously end up all over the kitchen when my husband cooks. I love pretty and functional things!

And the supplies! A tunesian crochet hook Grin I've wanted to try it out and now I can use the patterns I've been saving. There are also some ribbons that I've already figured out a use for and stamp pads. I also got two bath bombs that you can see in the first picture, they made the entire package smell really nice.
