1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Cotton Candy Quilt on: September 14, 2010 10:53:30 PM

I made this baby quilt earlier this year.  My cousin was having his first baby, a girl!  He and his wife named their little girl after our Gran (Madyson Marilee) and I am so excited about that.  (I miss my Gran!)  I used the Yellow Brick Road pattern on this quilt.  I love that pattern.  I have used it 4 times now.  It works up really quickly and the directions are super easy to follow.

Here is the top as a flimsy:

I went with pink and green because those were the colors they had for bedding on their registry.  I chose an all over stippling pattern because it's quick!  Here is the finished quilt:

A close up of the quilting, the binding reminded me of a candy cane:

If you <3 fabric, this is the swap for you!  This round will be taking place during spring of 2010 (mid April thru mid May).

This is an ongoing swap: Claim a total yard of fabric from the list of the last person who posted, and post your own list in response. It makes a chain.

For each claim, you will get to select a total of one yard of fabric (combined from FQs, half yards or a yard) from the list that is up for grabs at the moment.  In return, you will then be required to make a post with a minimum of eight fabric swatches that you have available for someone else to claim.

The amount of outstanding claims you are allowed is based on your Craftster and swapping status. New swappers get 1 claim, Friends of Craftster get 3, and everyone else gets 2.

HOW TO PLAY:

Step 1.  Send in your answers to the swap questionnaire to me via PM to get approved for this swap

Step 2.  Prepare your lists and photos of your fabric so that youll be ready to post the list when you make a claim!  Remember, you need 8 different fabrics minimum!  They do not each have to be a yard, but must each be at least a fat quarter. Along with the pictures, you should describe the type and clearly specify the quantity of fabric that youre offering!  For example:

1. "Brown and Turquoise Cotton Batik.  1/2 Yard Piece." or "polyester stretch fabric, any amount up to 1 yard"

Step 3.  Watch the swap thread for something youll like to claim.  To claim, post a reply along the lines of
I claim one FQ of #2 and #6 plus half a yard of #4 from klum78s list.
Then send a PM to the person youve claimed from listing what youve claimed and include your name and mailing address.

Step 4.  Now that youve made a claim, its your turn to post your list of fabric swatches!  If the thread idles for more than a day, please take the initiative to add more selections to your list!  When someone chooses from your list, you have seven (7) days to get the swap package out the door!

Step 5.  If you have not maxed out on the number of claims you have been approved for, you may keep on claiming.  If you have reached your limit, you will not be able to make another claim until one of your partners has received a swap package from you.

SOME RULES:

1.  You may not participate in this swap until you have been pre-approved by the swap organizer and are listed on the List of Approved Swappers. If youre thinking about participating, go for it and get pre-approved. By doing so, youll be ready to make a claim when you see something you like

2.  You must have ready access to a camera or scanner and know how to post pictures in the swap thread.  Please make sure you have your list (either links or pictures) of fabrics available when you start swapping!  You will need to have a minimum of eight fabric swatches pictured in your posts. You may also choose the option of posting links to your fabric swatches.  If you do that, please make sure that your links work!

3. The width of fabric is expected to be about 45". If your fabric is much wider than this you may - if you want - cut away a piece to adjust the width. An FQ is a fourth of a yard of fabric, i.e. about 18" x 22"

4.  All participants must be willing to ship to international destinations.  Since were only sending a total of a yard of fabric, shipping costs are pretty reasonable.

5.  After a claim has been made, you have seven (7) days to mail your package!  Check out the second post of this swap thread to know when your swap packages are due.

6. Delivery Confirmation Numbers will be required for swap packages that are being sent within the United States. If youre sending a package to another country, or if you dont reside in the USA, please save your receipts!  Remember to send the DCN info to your swap partner(s) and the organizer (that would be klum78!)

7.  It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer.  You must let the organizer and your partner know when you have shipped, received or may be late!  You are still responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner.

8. Please offer fabric selections that others would want to claim.  Try to include a variety of fabrics in your lists. Dont include only Christmas fabrics or only vintage fabrics, etc.
Another good rule of thumb to follow is this: If you're offering a piece of fabric to "simply get rid of it", please dont.

9. This thread is limited to lists only.  Please keep all chatter over here:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=344563.0

4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / 1 hour quilt *Rainbow Goodness* on: October 17, 2009 11:08:45 PM
I was part of the Let's Strip swap awhile ago.  ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=301551.0 )  I received a fun 13 inch by 42 inch rainbow strip from mlookyloo1.  My daughter is always stealing her brother's baby blankets to used for her baby dolls and stuffed animals.  So I decided to made her a doll quilt one night.  This was the perfect strip for her because she says all colors are her favorite!

I took the strip and cut it in half then sewed the two halves together.  Used some batting scraps and a pre-made bias binding strip I had in my stash.  And voila(!) a mini quilt in an hour.

It's about 12 by 26

And a peak of the back fabric, which I love:

Thanks for looking, let me know what you think.  Smiley
5  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / I hate my quilting! Do you hate it too? on: September 30, 2009 03:41:48 PM
I made this quilt for a friend's new baby.  I loved it... until I quilted the darned thing!  The stitching did not turn out like I had hoped at all.  I don't normally do a stitch like this but I wanted to try something new.  I had seen it on another quilt but now I am thinking that other one might have been done on a long arm machine.   I feel like it looks really bad!  I am contemplating ripping out all of my stitching.  What is your opinion?

Whole thing:

Up close:

Ugh!

8  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Birthday Cape on: June 29, 2009 04:26:39 PM
A close friend's daughter turned 2 this past weekend.  Of course I wanted to make her something fun.  She loves her big brother's cape so I decided to make her a girly one of her own.  Smiley  I used the tute at Puking Pastilles: http://pukingpastilles.com/?p=57  It's super easy to follow and I highly recommend it.

Close up and the backing fabric:

I think she'll like it...  Thanks for looking!
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Poppiful Wrap Skirt on: June 29, 2009 03:56:15 PM
Fun spin shot:

I have been dying to get my hands on a copy of Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing.  I had it on hold at the library for months.  It finally came in the the Sat before Mother's Day and I raced to the library to pick it up.  I really wanted to make the wrap skirt pattern.  I had seen a few versions of it on Flickr and thought it would be perfect for some poppy fabric (sale $3/yd!!) I had been hoarding for the perfect dress or skirt pattern.  So I traced the pattern, ironed and cut out my fabric, sewed and about 6 hours later (with interruptions) I had this skirt.  I stayed up till 3am to finish it and wear it the next day to church.  So worth it.

If you decide to make this, check her website for corrections.  I am a size 10, used 5 panels and 3 yds of fabric.  (The original pattern has a sz L using only 3 panels.  That would have barely wrapped around me...)  I had to cut the waistband not on the bias because I didn't have enough fabric to do so.  I think the next one I make I might put a large button hole in the waist so that I can thread one of the ties through when wrapping.  I was unsure of the proper wrapping technique so a buttonhole would make that easier.  Plus that would help the waist lie flatter, not so much fabric bunched up.
Close up of the waist:

Closer pic of the skirt:

I am in love with this book and I might use the Amazon gift certificate I received for my birthday to actually buy a copy.  Which is saying a lot for me.  I very rarely buy myself books.
Thanks for looking!
10  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Swap a Yard of fabric- July '09 and Sept '09 on: June 24, 2009 03:27:17 PM
I was going to start up this swap again to run for the month of July.  I have received the previous organizer's blessing to start this up again.    I just wanted to give everyone a heads up and possibly answer any questions before the swap starts.  I also want to use this thread as the discussion thread so that we can keep the swap post to lists only.
I plan on starting sign ups on the 29th and will post my list first on the 1st.  I will also finish up the swap at the end of the month so that claims will be kept even.  If there is enough interest, I will continue on in August.
So what does everyone think?  I am really excited to start up this swap again.  I did a few rounds last year and loved it!  I am such a fabric whore...  Tongue
