1  Felt Taxi-deer-my in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by cherry5 on: January 27, 2009 07:22:04 PM
First, I'd like to give a shout out to AlwaysInspired who posted a very cute and realistic "trophy" a while back (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=282558.0). There's a similar story to my craft: my father has been hunting for a while and never killed anything. I had a theory that he just climbed a tree and took a nap! Well all that changed this year, so I felt compelled to commemorate the event. I knew my mother would never allow a real-live dead animal in the house, thus "Blackie" was born (he was shot in Blackstock, SC).

I was going for a crafty, toy-like feel. The pile of flesh is completely from scratch and my first attempt at a "3-D" sewing project. It's felt (two kidney bean shapes a rectangle and trapezoid for his nose/forehead with a dart in the back, all sewn onto a cylinder shape), positionable antlers and ears (lined with floral wire), stuffed with fiber-fill. I inserted a styrofoam cone into the neck for stability and lined with fiber-fill. Everything is glued to a stained wood plaque. Oak leaves and an acorn are lining the neck. The eyes are buttons. At any rate, I can elaborate on any of this upon request!

Thanks for looking! C&C welcome!

2  Sock and Tie V-day Bouquet in Valentine's Day by cherry5 on: January 25, 2009 09:50:22 PM
So this is my first post  Shocked

I made this for the hubby a few years back, before I knew the greatness that was craftster! So I figured it's high time to post. Hubby had a habit of giving me flowers in public so one day I returned the favor with a bouquet of socks and ties rolled up like rose buds.

This involved plucking the heads off of several large silk flowers and rolling the ties/socks around the stem, securing with floral tape. The ties needed a little more help staying formed so I stuck a straight pin in the last layer. The rest is just bunching and wrapping the bouquet as you would with fresh flowers. All pieces came out wearable.

Hubby's getting a card this year. I guess that means the honeymoon is over lol. Thanks for looking --
