2  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / 2 paintings. Comments/Criticism? on: September 05, 2014 09:38:29 AM
These are my first 'public' displays of art. I'm a "closet" artist, not many people even know that I enjoy drawing or painting. I really only create art for myself or as gifts. These two works are each 5"x5" to be displayed at the Tampa Museum of Art (in Florida) on 10/17. They are for a fundraiser for scholarships for the Art Council in their county. I'm in Toledo, OH. No one I know will actually see them. Thoughts/criticism welcome. I feel really nervous about a lot of people seeing my little paintings.  Undecided

"Distance"

This is a little surreal, but I love it. My favorite 'type' of art to create. My buck silhouette represents My boyfriend who travels for his job. In the far distance is the doe and two fawns (me and our 2 boys), barely visible in the distance. So far away that they are indistinguishable.

"Midnight"

This is a nightscape that I created. I am calmed by all of the elements within (trees, waterfalls, and the night sky). I created this one to show that even in the darkness, life can be beautiful.

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Santa's Helper Swap on: October 22, 2013 10:33:53 PM
I just want to do some crafts for someone else's gift list! Help knock out some presents for my gift list & yours! ALL WHILE Giving that extra motivation to do that holiday gift crafting on our own lists!  Let's help each other out... I'd organize. I was thinking send-outs would have to be last week in November, at the absolute latest... As far as swap size, I like the points system... I was thinking maybe a 5-7 point swap? Nothing too ambitious, but still productive enough to help with holiday gifts.

-Of course, open to all winter holiday gift lists...

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Team Umizoomi Party FOOD Ideas??? on: March 15, 2013 03:27:10 AM
I am planning my little guy's 2nd birthday party. He is IN LOVE with Team Umizoomi...Millie, Bot, Geo, Umicar, etc

There aren't any licensed bday gear in the stores, but there are some ideas on nickjr.com ... I have my plans for everything.. except food.

The only thing I can think of would be to do triangular sandwiches, "pattern power" fruit kebobs, square pretzels, "sphere" cheeseballs.. colored deviled eggs [i was going to use that as the oval shape, but ya know eggs arent really oval].... idk?! HELPPPPP!!

Basically, I'm going for the team umizoomi "math" aspect of it [shapes, colors, numbers].

SOOOO I am looking to you all for some help. I'm trying to think of clever names for the things too. OR I will just end up with "SHAPES & COLORS ZONE" aka food and a "UMICAR REFUEL ZONE" aka drinks lol.

If anyone can help, thanks in advance!
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / gardening kits?? on: February 10, 2011 09:24:18 AM
Thinking ahead for christmas 2011, im thinking of making gardening kits [container gardening, maybe??] for a few people. And then painted flower pots for everyone else with some sort of indoor/outdoor plant.

Questions:

What should go in the kits?

-Painted flower pots/containers
-veggie seeds? easy to grow in a container? any suggestions??
-plant markers? suggestions on these??
-what else??

Thing is, this is my first year of gardening, so this will help me gather my items too! lol

Next Question:

What plants are easy to care for and do well as an indoor house plant but also do well when set on a porch during the spring summer?? My mom has a bit of a black thumb! Need something she can just water lol. & also, because i intend to make several painted pots with the same plant, I'd like to grow maybe one or two for myself & then transplant "babies" into the pots for gifts. SOOOOO ideas?Huh
6  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / Wool soaker/longie alternative? on: December 08, 2010 03:53:47 PM
The story:
-I'm planning to Cloth diaper my baby & LOVED LOVED LOVED the idea of crocheting my baby some diaper wraps, soakers, and longies.

The Problem:
-I'm allergic to wool!

The Question:
-Is there an alternative that will still be absorbant?? I know that nothing will be nearly AS absorbant, but I'd still like to crochet some for him. I love the look of crochet/knit for my baby's hiney. lol Plus, I'm a basic sewer and sewing a diaper [with velcro! or snaps! yikes...] is intimidating to me to say the least.

Any ideas? Suggestions? I'm all ears eyes. Smiley

P.S. If this is in the wrong thread, just let me know & i will move it. Sorry.
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Santa's Little Helper Swap ROUND 2 on: September 16, 2010 04:21:04 AM
Do you have a christmas list a mile long?  In this swap we will be helping each other to craft christmas presents for people on our lists.  You can ask for presents for as many different people as you'd like. You will be crafting 1 large, 2 med, 3 smalls...OR 10 points worth of presents. The 10 points is TOTAL...not for each person your partner describes.

Hi, here's the original thread:

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / (new years) resolution helper swap on: January 13, 2010 05:02:44 PM
OKAY people, so i know i cannot be the only one in this world who makes big plans before/on jan 1 for the new year. then fall right off track a week or so later! I think it would be really awesome to have a "helper" to motivate you right back onto the bandwagon lol.

we could craft things FOR the resolution or to inspire motivation towards our partners goals.

EXAMPLES:

1. weightloss: crafting magnets [scary junkfood], healthy snacks & the recipes, water bottle holder, etc
2. excercise more: checklist to record excercising when completed, yoga mat bag, etc
3. pay off debt: decorated piggy bank, debt quote on a mug, magnet, etc
4. get organized: fabric buckets, bowls, pretty jars, etc.
5. learn to knit: decorated knitting needles, yarn, books to learn to knit, etc.

you get the idea. i'd like to keep it as a medium sized swap; either by points or by specific size.
I could organize Smiley Just a word of note: I like to LONG crafting periods. Sendouts earlier =earlier feedback.

is anyone else interested!?
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Tan, Pink, WoW, & Pooh [for swap] on: September 22, 2009 08:24:32 AM
So, here are the things I made for my swap partner for the Baby Bump swap.... I'm rather pleased with everything. She likes tans/whites for the baby. The daddy likes pinks & really girly things for the baby. She likes Disney characters-thus the classic pooh. He likes World of Warcraft, thus the onsies....

The whole lot

The cream/tan bundle-pooh themed [for mommy to be]

-1 blanket
-1 bib
-1 burpcloth
-1 sleeper
-1 shirt
-EXTRA: HAT, Headband, barrettes

Pink bundle & WoW themed bundle [for daddy to be] includes:-2 bibs

-2 onsies
-1 crocheted hat
-1 Set of crocheted no-scratch thumb-less mittens
-1 burpcloth
-EXTRA: 1 bottle [the nipples on these bottles suck, I highly recommended replacing with GERBER nipples]

Closer picture of the stenciled onsies; which I LOVEEEEEEEE
-Alliance emblem & n00b-

Hope you liked everything. C&C welcome!
