2  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Heirloom Seed Savers on: June 09, 2008 03:31:47 PM
Are there any heirloom seed savers here? I am planning to organize a swap this fall for home grown seeds only, so save as the season goes along and we can exchange this fall.
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Fall Seed Savers Swap on: June 09, 2008 03:26:55 PM
Does anyone here grow heirloom veggies? If so, save those seeds as the season progresses, and maybe we could have a seed swap this fall. No store bought seeds, only from veggies grown by you personally. I am growing out 2 kinds of pumpkins, 2 kinds of summer squash, and 3 kinds of winter squash, plus two kinds of tomatoes and two kinds of peppers. I am also doing purple carrots, but those usually take 2 years to make seeds. Oh, and 2 kinds of melons as well. Mmhhmm. Flower seeds would also be welcome as long as you grew and collected them yourself. I might even have some Tarahumara black and blue beans, but it depends on if I can save enough v.s. eating them. If you are a keeper of heirloom veggies, stay tuned.
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Journal Quilt Swap Project/Summer on: June 09, 2008 09:18:11 AM
Has anyone here gotten into making journal quilts? Lots of web references can be found if you google this subject. I was thinking maybe of holding a swap at the end of summer that would reflect each  maker's summer experiences, lots of good things pulled from visual journals put together to make an art quilt.

each person would make one 8"x12" journal quilt, and swap with one partner.

the quilt would contain 3 layers, top, batting, back

can be bound with bias edge, or any creative bindging technique, but must have bound edges

must be hand or machine quilted in some manner

should be crafted with a 2" hanging sleve on back, and be labeled with maker's info.

These are the usual guidelines for journal quilt swaps. Everything else would be up to the creator.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Amigurumi Girl's Day Dolls on: June 03, 2008 10:20:14 AM
I think this is begging to be done in Amigurumi!

Would anyone be interested in an amigurumi swap related to the Japanese custom of Girl's Day?

Here are some research sources:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinamatsuri

http://www.saberdesigns.cc/dolls.htm (has dolls for sale, but i put this here for the excellent examples)

http://www.clas.ufl.edu/users/jshoaf/Jdolls/hina.htm

http://www.lotzdollpages.com/ljapfst.html

http://breezeb.tripod.com/dollsjapanese.html

http://www.fujiyamadoll.com/

I have seen these dolls interpereted in many ways, even as animals, and that really interests me. I have seen the "Imperial Couple" as cats and rabbits, for instance.

Perhaps we could start with the Imperial Couple, and in subsequent swaps could work on various other elements of the girl's day disply.
