3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Ceramic Ornaments on: December 20, 2008 07:03:46 AM
I've done ceramics for most of my life. These are poured from molds, fired, and then painted with arcylic paint, then sealed. I made them for my boyfriend's family, one for each: His Mom, Dad, little brother, little sister, and his big brother and his sister in law, and one for my boyfriend too.

These are very easy to make, but they look like I spent hours. They probably take maybe 30 minutes max each to paint, but I've also been making them for a while. It takes long to pour the molds and fire them, so I usually make a whole bunch with my grandmother, leaving them to finish with paint as needed. She used to make them and sell them (along with much more impressive things) at craft fairs. Once when I was in highschool I made about 100, and sold them for 3$ each. The money was donated to an charity that buys art supplies for disadvantaged children.

Anyway, here they are. Interested parties may have a tutorial if they'd like.

4  COOKING / Dessert / Margarita Cake on: September 05, 2008 04:58:36 PM
This is a cake I made for a friend of my family. Every friday, we all meet up at this local resturant and have dinner. Those who are of age have margaritas. So made made a Margarita Cake.

The top is made from an 8" cake with a rounded bottom turned upside down. The bottom is just a little 3" cake, I overfilled the pan so it would expand up.

In this picture you can see the base, with a 6" cake round attached. The peg that sticks out corresponds to a hole in the bottom of the top cake. The bottom cake is also centered on a cake round, which the stand also goes through for added support. A hole was cut into the small cake to accomodate the stand and to make the whole cake look like a glass.

I used cream cheese frosting on white cake, and dyed the frosting those colors. I put sugar on the edge of the cake to look like salt on the rim of the glass. I put some jelly candy limes on the side as well, to look like (duh) limes.

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Craft organizer question on: July 22, 2008 10:44:23 PM
To my dismay, ArtBin no longer makes the "Artbin Storganizer," the largest artbin I've ever owned. It's 18-1/4"W x 12-1/2"D x 11-3/4"H. The trays on the bottom pull out and have hooks so you can add more if you need them. Sadly, I need something larger, and more sturdy. I think they stopped making these because the hooks are easy to break.

Does anyone know of another brand/ place where I can get something similiar? I need it to be large, expanable, sturdy, and full of small sections for all my stuff.

Here is a picture of a brand new one, mine looks much more sad Sad

9  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Best in Show Ceramic Plates on: July 13, 2008 08:28:28 PM
Here are two plates. I probably made them two or three years ago. I don't really have time to do ceramics very often any more. Anyway both are undergazed and then clear glazed on the high temp firing clay. The apple and fig one is cool because I built up layers of glaze so it looks like it has texture and is raised up off the surface. I'm going to post some of the other ceramic things I won awards for next time I'm at home and I take pictures.

Both plates won Best in Show at the county fair. I won so many times in a row (five) for different pieces they had to give me a "reserve champion" award so someone else could have a turn Smiley

10  COOKING / Dessert / Maryland Day: 50,000 Cupcakes on: July 04, 2008 11:33:11 AM
I'm not sure if anyone has shared this yet, but I go to University of Maryland and every year we have "Maryland Day." It was a couple months ago, but it's this huge event that something like 75,000 people come to every year. I saw a post about a whole bunch of cupcakes, so I thought some people would be interested.
