11  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Fill the Hoopla swap? on: March 21, 2017 03:44:00 AM
Yes, I am packed right now, so ideally I would like to push it out a bit - like May? And I like short sign ups, so just over a week to catch the weekends? A month crafting.

I think as long as it's 8", then the Q will ask if you want a hoop, a framed piece (no glass for shipping), or an unframed piece (with reference). Or of course 'any'.

Most are familiar with a hoopla, but I'm open to it not being named that. I just really love it when it takes up the whole space! So composed!

craftADDchick - I cannot believe you have a whole bunch of science patches! Are you the one who received the plate techtonic one and the photosynthesis? because they're SO COOL! I can not wait to see the entire wall hanging!

curiousfae - I knew right away this was the water cycle! Your patch was very 50s, Mad Men stylized! The mountain peaks, and movement of the water were really fun!

Oh.My.LORD! I was going to list science things as one of my 5! Gah! These are so freakin keen!

Oh, yeah, I guess that wasn't very clear. There is a two part epoxy you push on the plunger and it self mixes. I've used it and it's good, but, you know, it's liquid glue and messy. And I have poor glue control. Like a child.

My favorite epoxy actually comes in a little canister. It's in the plumbing area. Grey on the inside with a weird, blue waxy like (it's not wax) outer 'shell'. You tear off what you think you'll use, and knead until the colors blend and it softens. It's significantly less messy, and I've kept tubes (in the canister) for YEARS and it's still useable, because it wasn't activated.

It's recommended you use gloves. (I don't because I'm terrible, but you should) I mean, it adheres metal and other dissimilar materials, so wash hands after, don't touch eyes, basic safety stuff (it's not pancake batter, no tasting!).

I'll edit this post later with the brand/name.

I finished my Hogwarts robe for the grandson and even bigger kid, my son. Now I can really start thinking on this. I have several possibilities. Recommendations for gluing metal to metal?

Yes. Epoxy, all the way. I was skeptical, but my friend recommended it, and now I'm 100% sold on it as a viable option. I've used it multiple times, now. Also, you can sand (to some extent) and paint it.

i've been wanting to make a hoopla for awhile now. this may be the swap to do that!  bookmarking...

I agree! It is totally time!

That is a totally gorgeous embroidery right there.

I would be interested if this technique of Ludi's was an option...

I like hoops but I prefer this flat style, to make and to receive. It seems more versatile for incorporating the art into different displays and I have idea about that Wink.

I know, I love the European style stitching and color choices. It's an imagined landscape which makes me want to lose my JENK.

Yeah, so same size, but not in a hoop? The lack of frame gives it a much softer edge (literally and figuratively). I say, BRING IT.

In opposition, I stitched my favorite tattoo and mounted it in an elongated frame (and removed the glass), so it's more featured artwork. I like that flavor, as well.

Reynolds is pretty much the market leader for branded freezer paper in the US, so this should be right.

go with your gut!

I've been waffeling over the type of animal I want to feature. I'm pretty sure my partner has a clear preference, but I keep circling back to this other one.

Do I go safe, or go with my gut?

We'll hey, partner! (Do you like the subtlety of that post?)

Also...AWESOME! Thank you!

Would anyone be interested in a 'fill the hoopla' swap? The idea being to fill 80% of the hoop with either embroidery or fabric (meaning pieces on top of the base fabric)? Maybe an 8"?
