1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / need advice, dying towels on: January 24, 2008 05:52:46 AM
Ok, so I have done lots of tie dyeing using procion dyes from Dharma.  And dying protien fibers with Koolaid.
But now I want to try dying some towels and I was wondering what method would be the best to get the desired effect.  They are white cotton towels.  I mistakenly thought that by buying all white towels I could keep them bright and matching by bleaching them.  Not so.  Something with our hard water just makes them always look dingy.  So I am switching my plan to off-white towels.  I want them to resemble "unbleached" cotton.  I though about dying with tea or coffee or just picking up some Rit in Ivory.

What do you guys think?
2  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Help Please! ISO Bootie Pattern for Thick Yarn on: August 31, 2007 02:43:24 PM
I have a bunch of Homspun Baby and I want to make a set of booties for my dear friend who is due like a few days ago.  LOL

I found a knit pattern on the LB website, but really would rather crochet them as I'm much faster with that.

TIA!!
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Need Ideas - Monkey First Bday on: August 08, 2007 08:14:48 PM
So DS's first bday party is Saturday.  I was just wondering if anyone had any last minute ideas for me.  So far I just bought anything monkey themed from the party store.  Cheesy We have a mix of cartoon monkeys, chimps and Curious George going on.
I plan on sitting out DS's sock monkeys as part of the decor.
For cake, I'm doing the low-sugar thing with banana cupcakes with a dollop of cream cheese frosting on top.  I'm thinking I could stick a banana chip in there for garnish?
For food I'm thinking carribean with pinapple chicken on the grill and black beans with sweet plantains.

I saw the monkey theme idea on martha, but without the sugary monkey cake and a lack of monkey plush I'm kicking myself.  I was going to do pirates since they are so popular right now, but I thought monkey's was more DS.

So, anything else I can do?
