51  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Asthma Friendly? on: November 20, 2007 04:51:39 PM
Does anyone know how to make an asthma friendly stuffie? My littlest has asthma (all but 2 stuffies each will be purged before Xmas. Sad ) and we have to deep freeze the stuffies for 24hrs to kill any dust mites that may be in them. I know Build-A-Bear has an asthma friendly bear, but I want to crochet those cute little animals for them for Xmas. What can you use as a filler to make them "asthma friendly"?
52  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Embroidery Thread? on: November 19, 2007 04:24:33 PM
Right now I am cursing where we live. I can not get embroidery thread at any of the Walmarts by me (they no longer carry it), nor Joann's, nor Michael's.

Where can I get it online at a decent price? I am googling it, but I want to know what you all suggest.  Grin
53  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Gifts for the kids on: November 19, 2007 09:04:54 AM
 Huh

Oh jeez. Here is the problem- last year I gave my 6 nieces and nephews embroidered tote bags with a book in each. I have NO IDEA what to give them this year. My one SIL says her kids have too much junk. The other one is materialistic, but her kids have too much junk also.

Someone had posted homemade Memory games and the SILs said they have too many games. So that is out also. (Damnit, I really wanted to make that too!)

I want to give them something functional. Jammie pants? Would kids ranging from age 11-4 be okay with that? (more importantly, their moms too?)

Any other ideas?

I was inspired by this thread-

DD's 3rd Bday is New Year's Eve and she loves to play pretend. This is going to go great with her tea set (that she makes her daddy and brothers play with her).

I just need to think of what other things to make for her Birthday.
Any suggestions?
55  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Stupid Knitting on: November 18, 2007 11:33:42 AM
 Angry

I am learning, but today I am lacking in patience. I want to throw the needles across the room. I can knit, I hate to purl, I don't "get" anything else about it. I can't join in new colors without screwing it up royally. I just don't understand this $#!+!!!

**banging head against table**

My phalanges hurt.

I give up for today and will go do some other craft now... maybe head out and get more embroidery thread to finish this bag.... **sigh**
56  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Ugly stained jeans make.... on: November 09, 2007 09:33:37 PM

.... an not-so-ugly bag.....

ROFL!

Well, DH says this one is too ugly to keep though...
Maybe I'll sell it to someone who likes Daisies? His mom is the one who gave me the daisy fabric....20 friggin' yards of it!! I do NOT like daisies, but I felt it worked with the bag! Smiley

57  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Khaki's to shopping bag #2 (loads of pix) on: November 09, 2007 09:29:12 PM
The inspiration with a pair of pants to be dismantled:

A dress that no longer fits "my girls" since I had 3 kids.... it'll be the liner! WOOT!

I padded the straps with some scraps of fleece I had lying around from last year's Christmas craftings:

DH says this one is too pretty to be used as a grocery bag (he said that about the red one also)

This bag also fits two of the HUGE boxes of cereal, with room to spare!

3 new shopping bags!! Grin YAY!

Excuse the sloppy stiches- I am not the best seamstress, just a crafter.  Wink
Well, 2 regular sized and one for my lil girl. She asked for it.

Buh-bye pair #1 of khakis!

The little princess's bag (she has been using it ALL DAY! Her entire tea set fits in it! LOL):

Fits so much STUFF!

Mommy-sized bag (those are 2-18oz boxes of cereal in there, the huge boxes):

Mommy & Me Smiley :

more to come..... I've been in the ZONE all day!!!
59  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Discussion and Questions / porcelain paints? on: November 08, 2007 01:55:22 PM
I want to make something like this for Christmas gifts:

http://bloodybunny.blogspot.com/search/label/tutorial

Do you think Michael's has the paints I'd need? Or can I get them online somewhere? Don't worry, I am not using them for eating off of- we want to make plates to display. Smiley

Thx!
60  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Fray Bond? on: August 26, 2007 10:53:37 PM
Anyone ever use this stuff?
I am about to cry because I used it on satin that I spent forEVER cutting out for my skirt and it looks like it ruined the material.  Cry

I suppose I have to re-cut it? Sad
