It's a simple drop stitch pattern - it is rather monotonous - I won't lie - but the end result is SOO worth it. 

It could have taken me a month to probably make it, but I only worked on it once a week during my knit group gatherings - therefore it took almost 3 months - not to mention i was working on a pair of socks too. 

I abosultely love the way it turned out, and its perfect for both fall days and spring days like we've been having here on cool mornings and evenings too and from work.  not to mention perfect for my air-conditioned office in the summer.  I'm thinking of casting on another one to work on during the summer.

I just realized I never posted any real details about it, here they are in case anyone is interested.

yarn: Colinette Jitterbug - 2 skeins
needles: US size 7's
Size: made to fit me, I think i did one less repeat of the increase rows, and i'm not sure how many more of the straight rows - enought that the shall/scarf is as tall as me (approx. 5 feet)

VERY VERY AWESOME!  Great job putting all sorts of tutorias together and creating your own design!  People are going to start asking you for a tutorial!

Thanks!  Yes mamalusco it does look at bit like the "kate bag" I fell in love with hers and the idea of that outside pocket idea.  I've had other outside pockets on my bags, but I love how this is almost hidden and people can't get into it (since there are no closures on them) they are great for things like your phone/ keys.

And all you really need to do is cut an extra piece of the front of whatever bag your making, then i used the bias tape to cover up the seams of the pocket.

Long time lurker of craftster, but just started posting things now.

Finished this last year for a wedding that we were going to.  The day of the wedding was a million degrees but I still wore it! Took me three months - there was no way i wasn't going to wear it!

That is awesome!  I love the elastic pockets inside and on the side of the bag.  Did you just have to make an elastic casting and thread it in?

What a great job!  Love the fabric!  I think one of my first projects was a tote bag like that too.

You should try a little zippered pouch - something like this: http://dragoknit.blogspot.com/2007/02/box-bag-tutorial.html  It looks a bit hard - but it isn't at all.  It only takes a bit of fabric and if your a knitter - its great for carring small projects around!

Love your bag, it looks fantastic!  I've been wanting to get this book for a while now, I think i'll have to put it on my birthday list for next month.

As for the needles, I can relate.  I just finished Amy Butlers Weekender Bag and had just as much issues.  I think i broke 3 needles making that.  I was using ones for sewing with denim or leather, and I still didn't have much luck.  Although it did get better as I got further along, and the slower I went the easier it was.  But i'm not sure of a trick for not breaking at all.

My sister said she was wearing an orange and black dress, and when I saw this fabric in my stash, knew that it would be perfect, I wish I actually had a picture of her with it in the dress, because you'd think it was made from the same fabric it matched so perfectly!!

LOVE the fabric choice!  And i LOVE that you lined up the little bird on the closure flap - too darn cute.
