151  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Re: Finally finished my first PATTERN. on: August 07, 2007 07:35:32 AM
Great job!  I don't think I would have been brave enough to make a Burda pattern on the first go.  They are so often hard to follow.

And all those buttons!  I'm really impressed!

Great job!

Silly question, but do you need a serger to applique or can you just use the zigzag (non technical name) stitch on the sewing machine?

I just got a fab new machine that has a built in applique stitch, but yes you can definitely use a zigzag stitch.  Just get close to the edge of the applique and zig and zag away.

Does the zigzag stitch have another name?

I have been lurking around this board for some time now.  I decided it was time to share.

I made this cupcake shirt for my little one's second birthday.  I have never really sewn anything without a pattern before, but you guys gave me the courage to try something new and different.  I bought the shirt for $2 and appliqued it myself (lest anyone think I made the *entire* shirt).

It wasn't anything too difficult, but I think it turned out cute.

and a close up:

And here you can see it on my DD (aka Sister Goldenhair).  Please note that she actually is enjoying the bubbles, even though it looks as if she is upset.
