31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Lap Quilt Swap 5 CLOSED on: September 28, 2009 06:21:03 AM
i am mailing today, provided i dont run out of ink or cramp up filling out the customs forms. Wink

That is cute sloth!  I felt that way filling out all the DC forms too!

Let's see.  I have Rita's fabric sitting here.  It is so pretty, and I believe I picked a block I can manage.  I'm impressed with people that can do a lot of little pieces and have them match up perfectly, but I have to do larger pieces!

That's about it, I don't have anymore fabric to work with right now.
Have a great week!

shout4joy- Oh my...all I can say is perfect.  Your blocks are just perfect.  All those little pieces matched perfectly!  Mine is beautiful, thank you so much!

Oh, I love this idea, and it turned out really nice too!

I'm full of questions...sorry.

Do we post pictures in our spot in the gallery before the person gets the square or after or does it matter?  I promise I won't always be this quick, but I got gingerquilts square finished.  (we both live in the same state, so shipping fabric was FAST) and I was just wondering if I post pictures now or wait.  Which do you guys prefer?

Ooh!  I took a peek.  Looks great!  Can't wait for some sewing time to play with it myself.  Thanks!

Oh good.  I'm glad you like it.  I defiantly have performance anxiety over this swap.  I would label myself an advanced beginner sewer.  I've made enough things to get the hang of sewing, but I'm not PERFECT by any means.  My blocks will probably be simple in their construction.  I was afraid to try this swap at first, but I thought I'd jump in and see what happens.

drat.  hub went out to scavenge for ziploc bags today and thought he was being super awesome by buying brand name (i refuse to) and brought me home the zipper top ziplocs...  you know.,.. the ones we aren't allowed to use.  Wink
if he would have stuck with the no name cheapies i wouldn't have had to see that sad puppy face on him. he was so proud of himself trying to make my life easier... Cheesy

Can't you just pull the zipper part off of those?  They'll still pretty much close just like the other ones, maybe not all the way, but for our purpose I think they would be fine.  And in my package (I used a big envelope) I don't see how that little zipper would have made a huge difference.  Anyway, try pulling the zipper off.

Here are my latest three.  I think I'm waiting on one more package of fabric.

FIRST- this is more of a confession than an update.  I messed up big time on our wonderful organizer's block and went through 1 and a half very VERY unsuccessful blocks.  I ended up making a simple nine patch b/c at that time I was running out of fabric and wasn't about to cut one more triangle that my machine was eating the corners of.    I'm very sorry.  This block technically meets the  standards, but I'm not proud of it.

And for Marmish I used 'woven ribbon' pattern.  I felt it was Christmas'y'.  I like the pattern so much though, it seems more my level, I'm going to make a few more like this one.

Here is the block for SimplySandy-it is a version of the ohio star

9.30.09
I've finished Ritapizza's block.  My picture is a bit washed out and the pink and white look almost the same-it looks a little better in person.  I had a HARD time with this one for some reason.

And after my problems with Rita's block I had to go simple with the next one.  Shout4joys block is called 'chain' on quilterscache.com.  I like this one even though it is really simple.

Ok, so I received gingerquilts fabric yesterday and decided to make her square this morning instead of going to the gym-shame on me.  Anyway, here is gingerquilts square, called greekcross

And this is one I tried with my fabric.  I have a little square that isn't quite straight, that I tried to fix but I don't have a picture of it.

Here is my fabric- I still have to cut it, I'll do that tonight.  The final project will go in my family room, which has tan walls with a dark blue accent wall and leather furniture. And we have some red accent pieces in there as well. What do you think?

I don't want to scare anyone by asking questions, I can sew I swear.  What I have a problem with is the yardage.   I am having trouble with the directions on how much fabric to send.  What do you normally send?  3/8 of a yard...how does that work out?  What I need is fabric dimensions like the "nothing smaller than 9x9."  Do you figure in sq. inches?  I just don't want to buy way too much fabric.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.  I'm going to make these with my kids, they will love them!
